Even during pre-season there were always pics of EtH having convos with him.

This is this week. He seems a player EtH likes, even if it doesn't translate to selections

"I don't play you because you flaunting your glorious mane in front of me makes me so envious"

I thought from the first time I saw this kid that he is quality.

EtH came in and there was a lot of talk about FDJ and he said when you can’t recruit the player you want, you develop a player to play the role. I immediately thought he was going to see Hannibal as a candidate.

Who knows but I can see any manager really appreciating Hannibal’s talent and spirit even if he’s not ready to put in a reliable 90 mins in the prem just yet.

Maybe this is just me projecting but I get the impression EtH cares about doing the right thing for his players. That might mean letting the lad go but I still think he’s in our long term plans. He’s just too good to give up on.

I hope that's all it is. I wouldn't want any loan player to go to Goodison atm. You're a shambles.

Depends what side we play. Against Fulham and Wolves we were really good and just needed a striker in order to win (which we now have in Beto). Last night we had a trash initial lineup but turned it around in the second half when we started to play with the type of striker Dyche wants to etc.

if rumours are that Iwobi is out it makes sense that we are enquiring about players in the mould of Hannibal.
Permanent or loan?

loan.

Do you reckon he’d get game time?

I really don’t know how much he would get because there is rumours of a few outgoings and incomings. If Iwobi goes that means we lose depth at CM and out wide leaving a gap in the squad for a player like Hannibal. I doubt he would be a starter but he would be a good rotational option to have. I’d say 15-20 games type of loan. More if he did well.

 What does that even mean? He could leave the club OR he could stay and be important.

Dan Marsh normally reports on the Championship and is a Millwall fan. And he's run a exclusive (from yesterday) in his Daily Mirror column about ten Hag wanting Hannibal to stay. Was close to joining Sevilla according to the report. And this report came out hours before the likes of Luckhurst reported anything on it.

From the article: "Ten Hag sees the Tunisian international as a player who can make an impact in the first-team this season and, as such, is eager for the midfielder to stay and develop at the club rather than heading off elsewhere."

"Even up until late this week the situation was unresolved; the framework for a loan deal with an option to join Sevilla had been fleshed out between the two clubs, with the LaLiga outfit desperate to sign the midfielder. Hannibal was also open to making the move after being kept waiting for clarity over his future."

"But following Ten Hag's late intervention, Hannibal is now expected to stay at Old Trafford beyond Friday's transfer deadline."

He and Pellestri should be out the door on loan. I don't see either getting minutes.

He's already had a good loan, need to see if he can force his way into the team. And when he does, show the discipline needed to keep it.

As a second-half sub, we really could be doing worse. He can play centrally, is a pretty decent passer of the ball and can carry it. If anything, he could be the Fred replacement imo.

Yep. Will barely get minutes, and then a loan in Jan. We probably kept him because of injuries, but I feel that's shortsighted from the club.

United managers shouldn't be trusted when they promise players minutes, we have seen this story before.

It's extremely important to have good dribblers/carriers in central midfield in the game today. We don't have that in our team and Hannibal potentially provides that missing component which makes the difference when breaking lines via a dribble. His passing is also good and the loan to Birmingham should be understood from how Birmingham applied themselves tactically before jumping to conclusions via statistics online. The system was centred around getting the ball to the big men upfront quickly and hence bypassing the midfield. And qualitatively Birmingham were a poor team and hence were tipped for relegation. But the loan wasn't bad but actually it was good for him imo because he had to do a lot of chasing around out of possession due to how often Birmingham turned the ball over with their direct approach.

Hannibal is a central midfielder who has the dribbling/carrying ability along with the passing ability to potentially be a asset for us. I think his skillset is of a midfielder who should be developed as the #6/#8 hybrid. He has a natural tendency to drop deeper to get involved in deeper areas of the midfield and I hope to see both Hannibal and Mainoo given a chance in the team. Because both Hannibal and Mainoo have shown the ability to evade pressure, carry the ball and thread the lines. And you have to give players with those attributes the chance to succeed, especially when you don't have another option like that in central areas.

I think both Hannibal and Mainoo potentially have what it takes to be in our first XI in the future. A lot needs to align for them outside of their quality, but based on our age profile and the business we have done in the midfield areas, I can see them aligning. We’ve not gone and bought a real top class CM like De Jong, the only one we have bought is now 31, as is Eriksen, and the likes of McTominay, Amrabat and Mount are not the calibre of players that will mean a real top prospect would need to leave in a couple of years IMO.

If we get Amrabat in, and McT stays, then Hannibal will be 8th choice CM. 9th choice if Ten Hag opting for Gore over him in the weekend is any indication.

I don't know why this kid isn't on loan, when ETH likely is not going to give him much(any) chance to play. We could probably find a PL club willing to take him on loan and loads of clubs in other top leagues. He's going to just sit on the bench occasionally like Pellistri was last season.

Amrabat is likely(?) coming in, McTominay is probably staying. ETH has already shown some faith in Mainoo and it looks like he will definitely feature this season, even potentially in important games(like Garnacho was last season). That means that we'll have 6 midfielders(Casemiro, Amrabat, Bruno, Eriksen, Mount, McTominay) + 7th Mainoo. ETH maybe even rates Gore highly than Hannibal.

Weird. I don't understand what's the plan with him and what exactly ETH thinks of him.

Correct, if Amrabat comes in Mejrbi is 8th in the pecking order.

He needs to be playing every week, wonder did Sunderland come in for him. Would have been a great move, don't think he'd play every week for a PL team.

He's not competing with Casemiro and Amrabat though, that's not his position. If anything he is competing with Mount, McTominay and Eriksen. Mount is already injured and Eriksen can't play every game so I could see him getting some game time eventually. Didn't bother including Bruno because he's never injured and plays every game.

In the short term I can see him playing the role that Mount plays IF ETH wants to stick to that formation.

I’ve always thought that I could see him playing deeper, getting on the ball in the way DeJong does and dictating play. My concern with him is and has always been his temperament

We can't assume Bruno always plays. It would be unrealistic

This is like the time Ole convinced Lingard, Henderson, VdB that they would be given a chance (costing us tens of millions in transfer fees). In reality he won't get a chance at all this season as ETH is risk averse and will be constantly playing his best team to try to keep up with the pack and win smaller trophies.

Surely he'd only stay if McTominay goes? If Everyon want him to replace the creativity they've lost in Iwobi then I could see that being a good loan for him.

If he cannot break through now even as a sub (whilst Mount is injured, Casemiro is not 100%, Eriksen is what he is, Fred gone, Mainoo injured etc.) then he may as well move on and get a decent career elsewhere

I’m highly doubtful EtH will use him because McT is still around, and Mainoo already seems ahead of Mejbri in order of progression to the first team. If EtH was serious, he should have just told the Glazers to sell McT regardless of their absurd valuation of 45m because I doubt we will be getting more than 20m after this season.

He has the brains to play deeper but not the mentality. Far more effective up front. He will get minutes if he stays.

Think its clear if we sign Amrabat that he'll be moving on. A bit of a shame because I doubt he'd do any worse

Quite different situations considering Pellistri has in fact been getting game time this season.

Hannibal hasn't even been in the squad. Another issue is I don't think EtH sees him as a number 6 option, but a number 8/10, which happens to be where most of our current midfielders play.
This is where Mainoo and even Gore can feel more hopeful.

Sancho was coming on to replace Garnacho and then when Martial got back he came on for Martial. Once Hojlund is back we might see Sancho getting minutes on the right, Garnacho deputising for Rashford and Martial back up for Hojlund. Where does that leave Pellestri? Amad will eventually get back too. Pellestri might get minutes but I don't think it will be enough for a 21 year old.

But it won't be Casemiro or Amrabat. There'll be games when both play. I think possibly a lot of games. Reducing his chsnces further. He has to go on loan nowor it'll be a wasted season(or until Jan at least).
