Not sure but i feel ETH doesn’t fancy him. I hope i am completely wrong but somehow he gets overlooked every single time. Zidane Iqbal was preferred last season and this season Dan Gore got opportunities in the position, i think Hannibal excels at.

But one thing this kid has is great attitude. I remember Pogba was sulking when he was made to play reserve after getting first team chance. Hannibal played a great game last time he played for U21. Atleast bench option and slowly integrating him would be the way forward
I saw it as EtH knowing what kind of a midfielder Mejbri is, that’s why he was played everywhere but in midfield - to see how he adapts to various positions, etc. EtH played Iqbal more to see if Iqbal could potentially contribute to the team and now Iqbal has been sold to a lower quality league whilst Mejbri is still at the club and had a couple of decent games in pre-season.

You seem to have all your answers. Thought it was a genuine question :wenger:

For what it's worth, I think he's a brilliant passer and dribbler, and he influences games plenty. In fact, a potential criticism might be that he seems to be one of those that always wants to run the game, which may be an issue with bigger stars in the men's game

It was rhetoric.

No he is not a "brilliant" passer and dribbler, Kovacic is a brilliant passer and dribbler, De Jong is, Bellingham is. Mejbri on current ability is upper Championship/lower Prem at best. We tend to overhype our own academy players. Mejbri has potential, but probably even Mainoo is ahead of him at this point.

I hope I'm wrong though.

Must be rhetorical as you judge him later and say you’d loan or sell him. All fine but imo there is a big difference between not good enough and not ready; if anything I’d say Hannibal is in the latter category but I personally believe he can step up.

Yes it was. Its what I have been asking myself. I hope he can step up, but even ETH seems reluctant. Mainoo is clearly ahead of him in the pecking order, maybe Gore too.

So impressed he hasn’t made the bench in 2 games with Mainoo out injured. He named 2 gk’s v spurs on the bench so no he obviously wasn’t impressed.
I highly doubt he was impressed with Antony in preseason but it does not affect his selection

Here you go. Obviously it doesn't track with what we've seen over the first 2 games

It does if you believe he is going on loan. Erik had his starting midfield in mind for those gmes and had Eriksen and McT on the bench so really no need for Hannibal to play. The story was that he needed a lot of minutes which he won't get as 5th or 6th choice at United this season so a loan with a team that will use him as a starter is preferred and to keep him in shape they elected to keep him with the U21 team for the start of the season where he would play full games. We will know for sure by the end of the window.

Was said to be our best player in a behind closed door game versus Burnley earlier today.

hope he gets any minutes mctominay wouldve gotten after the mount injury. Weve seen the mctominay movie and know how that one ends, time to check out something new. Would love to see EtH being ruthless and showing players that if they want to stay and collect the higher paycheck it wont mean any game time here. Club shouldve taken the 60 million double offer from west ham for those two. What a backfire that was.

He should be on the bench at least then if that is the case.
Hope so. It looks like he’s just starting to knock on the door. Loan might still be the best option but with a view to breaking into the team within 12 months.

if he is that close it makes no sense to loan. Mount is out for a bit and then the only other midfielder who EtH trusts at all would prob be eriksen, who hasnt looked the same since his injury. Plenty of game time available right now

We should get him in the side now as it looks like there are no incomings and VDB will be gone as well.
Casemiro and Erikson look gassed already after two games and we need energy in the midfield.
I am just getting sick of all this talk about loans when we are seeing all these young players given a chance at their parent clubs and suddenly they have a 50mil pound price tag on their heads.
I am starting to think our club is as dumb as feck!

Yeah, if he is that close. I just don’t know. I like him though.

Yeah. Number 1 priority for me is to get this kid into the team. I’ve said before I have a hunch he will improve rapidly if he’s playing in the team because he’s got everything but experience. Worst outcome for me is that we sell him and he becomes as good as I think he will. Middle option is loan but now does seem like a time he could be kept here and unleashed as we don’t have a lot of choice with injury and so on.

That we lost 3-0 in
Which is even more encouraging that he actually showed up against a reportedly strong Burnley team in a game we seem to have struggled in.

Everyone looks good when things are going well but only a few standout when things are going wrong.

That we lost 3-0 in
and your point? There are 11 players out there on a pitch. If he is the best in a group that has a mix of sub/reserves but also has some of his competition in the squad then only helps that he is the best one out there. If the CB partnership was indeed evans/maguire what do i care if we got 30 put past us? If he played his role in a way that shows he is ready to be getting the minutes that mount was given then good for him.

Why say the Mainoo thing haha, so random. It reads like he’s back from the injury.

That’s encouraging. 3-0 is a bad scoreline but if Hannibal impressed then atleast there is something we got out of the game.

We lost 3-0 and he stood out in a team with Evans, Maguire, youth players and Donny . I’m not reading too much into it that’s all.
You keep showing up and pissing on everyone’s cornflakes for no reason.

3 internationals who have seen a lot more first team action than him. If some of the other internationals (again who have had extensive game time with the first team) really played, then it's noteworthy. You can rewrite the story whichever way you choose

Let him develop in deeper areas. He has the ability to develop well there. He has all the qualities you would want of that metronome passer we've been lacking.

Probably because he's a red card waiting to happen and isn't ready yet. But, at this stage given the lack of options, it might be worth a punt throwing him in to see how he does, he couldn't be much worse than McT.

Maybe another year on loan would bring him on, but he'd have to go to a club where he's going to be a starter and one that will help develop his game on the ball. Overall, I think he's a decent player, did ok in the Championship last year, but that's probably his level, lower half of the PL/ upper half of the Championship.

I think the ''red card waiting to happen'' perception is a thing of the past. He has improved his composure and matured quite a bit after playing the more physical championship.

But I do agree that he's not ready yet -- he needs to learn the system and have the discipline to carry out the tactical instructions more. But he is a natural box2box so it may be a while!

If he starts for United say like against Forrest (due to Mount's injury), maybe ETH needs to ask him to keep his game more simple and more disciplined.

I'm hoping Hannibal is given a chance in the first team. He has qualities that we lack in midfield. Hannibal along with Mainoo could develop into very good players for us. Both players have the ability to evade pressure and carry the ball through the thirds. And these are the type of players we should be trying to develop imo.

Spot on. A common theme across threads is our fans lamenting all the top teams around us have these types of players and we don't. It would be great if they could come through the ranks.

The encouraging thing is that we've started to produce more and more players like this at youth level. Players who can play on the half turn and dribble/carry the ball out of pressure. Players like Dan Gore, Jayce Fitzgerald, Jack Moorhouse, Finley McAllister etc are all showing good signs in that regard and I feel a few out of Mainoo, Hannibal, Gore, Fitzgerald, Moorhouse, McAllister will become first team ready.

But our issue at first team level is that we lack ball carriers in central midfield. So I hope along with Mainoo, Hannibal also becomes a option because they have traits that our other midfielders lack.

I think he's the type to grasp the opportunity. I don't think you ever get a quiet performance from him.

I reckon ETH is waiting for him to mature emotionally. He has been a loose cannon, at least as bad as a young Rooney or Keane. If not worse.

But pre season I thought he showed signs of calming down a bit.

I like him, has to be in the squad this weekend. If not he has to be leaving somehow.

He just had a full season on loan. How many times was he sent off for Birmingham?

None, but he picked up quite a few bookings. He was one of the most booked players in the Championship last season. I would suspect, having not watched many Birmingham games, maybe 2 or 3, there might have been games where he was taken off before he got sent off. I could be wrong.

I'd like to see him being given a chance, as I do with all young players, because you never know what they are capable of until that happens. But, if he's not going to get game time, he needs to go out on loan again. Long term, I don't think he has the quality to be a regular in midfield for Utd.

What's he like on the press and in challenging for the ball - body to body and also tackling in the adult game?

Haven't watched full games of him in quite some time, so are these things he's doing well with?

I feel like his passionate approach to the game can be useful for us as well rather than reason to be cautious. All of our other remaining CMs if we don't count the injured Mount/Mainoo and the not-in-ETH-plan McTominay/VdB are already in their late 20s/30s. We do need some youthful energy.

Dan Gore also shares similar trait (without the yellow cards part)
