Guns n Roses still divas after all these years

WTF is wrong with jumping off an aircraft carrier to swim with some dolphins?!

We've all done it. Jesus Christ. A man can't do anything these days without people getting all judgemental.

They didn't play half an hour though did they Scene boy...they played a full set until 1am

So it's acceptable to waste an hour of everyone's time throwing a hissy fit? Additionally when I saw them 6 days ago they played only half of their set, so clearly they wouldn't have thought much of just packing up and going home.

To be fair the point everyone is missing is its not Guns N Roses, its Axl and his ego stroking backup band. No incarnation can be correctly called Guns N Roses without Duff and Slash on board too. Anything else is just fakery.

It's almost a given that Axl will take the stage later than advertised. He's been doing it since the 90's and anybody that likes the band enough to see them live should know this.

It has almost become cool to hate G'n'r and people seem to boo for the sake of it. A bit like all the hate towards Metallica. I don't understand why you would bottle a band that you'd paid to go and see.

In all fairness, the plug was pulled on them by the council. Admittedly it was their own fault for coming on stage late!

fecking hell people are touchy. The thread is in jest like, if anything a bit of me admires him for still being a nutcase 'badass'... but that bit of me is the 13 year old that thought they were the coolest thing on the planet. The adult bit of me recognises the diva attitude as the same thing that destroyed what could've been an utterly brilliant band.

Lies and Appetite for Destruction still have pride of place in my record collection.

Yeah, and then had the audacity to moan about it. It's your fecking fault for turning up late Axl you wanker!

I like the Illusion albums too, although they all pale in comparison to appetite.

I agree. I think he's so used to being accomodated that he couldn't believe the council wouldn't allow him to continue! I must admit that I enjoyed the sit down protest.

Yep like I said if they'd taken the 12-14 best songs and made a regular album it would've probably been up there with appetite which would have been quite and achievement. But Axl lost the plot. I read something by Slash who said it was getting embarrassing, they'd turn up for rehearsals and Axl would've lined up a 15 piece horn section, have a grand piano on stage for himself and would be running round in cycle shorts.

The interview with him about the Dont Cry video is hilarious.

Precisely. In regards to Mockneys point about him finishing his Dublin set, it's unlikely he knew for sure that he would be accommodated for, but he just doesn't give a feck.

But yeah, the sit down process was funny, he lied about boycotting Leeds though.

they played from midnight til 1am, not a full set

it was PLASTIC bottles thrown on stage at the beginning because they were so late coming on stage. For people to wait from just after 7pm till 10pm for the main act is very bad planning. All people could do was sit around and drink, and get more frustrated.

Tickets were 75 quid upwards, in this day and age people expect a good show for their money

I'm not saying that the crowd was blameless but the facts need to be considered. It could have been handled a lot better.

3 of my mates, who are morons, waited the whole of Friday, from the 4th act on the mainstage onwards, to get a good place for Guns 'n' Roses. They were more than a little bit pissed off with his shit/late performace. Everyone else found it fecking hilarious mind.

In comparison, Slash played a gig in Vicar Street recently which was jammed, went off without incident and by accounts was a great night

That's because Slash is awesome and Axl is a cnut though.

Was there any proper security at the gig? Surely the person who threw the bottle could have just been escorted out. I don't see why Axl needed to cancel the gig for it when they could have just escorted the guy away. Punishing thousands and people for the actions of 1 is slightly silly.

I saw Slash at the Camden Underworld about 10 years back when he released his 2nd snakepit album. There were only a few hundred people in a very small venue and it was awesome. I still have the t-shirt which has a photograph of a woman holding a snake coming out of her vagina. I might post a pic when I get home.

Chinese Democracy is absolute shite mind.

It's not! The guitarwork is insane and Axl still knows how to put a good song together. It might not be Guns N' Roses, but it's a good album.

And yeah, he's a diva, but it's Axl Rose, what do you expect? He was born one.

Why does Izzy never get any recognition?

Never mind Izzy, what about Steven Adler? That poor bastard did so much drugs he had 2 strokes at 31.

The Guns that you idolised as kid stopped playing years ago. I am surprised that you keep on talking about New GNR as if they were still all of the old guard when infact its just a past it Axl and some extra musicians behind him

I agree, as one of the most important band members, it is odd his contribution is not as recognised as it should be.

I know TFP, I'm old enough to remember when it happened.

I dont 'keep on talking about the New GNR as if they were still of the old guard', like I say, I was alive at the time so know exactly what 'the old guard' were...

The last time I bought a GNR album was in 1992.....

There Was A Time and Catcher in the Rye say differently.

High five to you. Although you can pretty much include anything with Buckethead on as well.

Here you go youngsters, this is the real Guns & Roses, when they were young, full of Heroin and hungry...

Ritz Ballroom NYC 1988

(note Axl displaying what the crowd were throwing onto the stage rather than storming off)

I'm not saying you wernt old enough but most of your comments in this thread have been about you reffering to the old Guns which is kind of irrelevant seeing as this is a completely different GnR with a past it Axl...

Bunch of wusses. Call themselves a rock band and flounce off when a few plastic bottles are aimed in their direction. Pffft...

Check this clip out. Keef Richards sees someone running at him on stage - who could quite easily be carrying a knife - so he twats him with his guitar, before picking up the tune where he left off.

No drama, no histrionics, no storming off the stage, crying for his manager. Now that is rock and roll.

Huh? What are you talking about? Because they're a bit shit and past it I cant reminisce about when they were good....

God help the next person that starts a thread about Cantona or Charlton then!

Yeah I've seen that before...

Appetite for Destruction was the last major label album recorded onto actual tape you know... everything went digital there after.

You are missing my point, there are two different GnR's, the one wou have fond memories of and the present one. All I am saying is that you cant exactly compare them to 80's/90's GnR because there is only one member of that band in todays GnR.

I have no interest whatsoever in the new GNR, I haven't even bought their last album so I'm not comparing them, I dont even have a basis on which to compare them.

That said, they were a cracking band in their original incarnation.

Yeah, the lead singer who flounced off stage when someone chucked a bottle of water at him.

You know, the issue that's being discussed in this thread?
