Guillermo Ochoa to join Man United in January

He's very young, and he has a lot of room for improvement

But I'd take Gordon over him in a flash, simply due to his Premiership experience

10m is a waste, we could have gotten Dudek on a free :nono:

Don't know if this has been posted yet, but:

Man Utd sign wonder goalie Ochoa !

November 8, 2007

Club America are ready to sell goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa to Manchester United.

Mexico international Ochoa, a nominee for this year’s Ballon d’Or, has confirmed his agent is in negotiations with United over a three-year contract.

Excelsior says Club America are seeking 7 million for Ochoa.

“It’s a great league (England), without doubt one of the best, it would be very competitive and very exciting,” said the goalkeeper.

“My departure would depend on conditions that are favorable to the club and obviously for me.

“I see it being very close, either happening in December or July.”

Has very good reactions. He's very short for a goalkeeper, I'd like to see his ability to handle crosses whipped in.

You are right. according to wiki he is only 1.83m. VDS 1.98 to compare. From top goal keepers only Iker Casillas is shorter than 1.9m

i just saw him on youtube. the guy is awsome.
any up date on him?

He's a good keeper. I am actually surprised that he hasn't moved to Europe. I don't know if he is good enough for us though. Would love to see a mexican in a Utd shirt, but I don't know if, at this moment, he would be the best choice if we were to sign a new keeper.

That last save was unreal, seemed impossible.

Anyway, I saw him at the Copa America and he was quality albeit he got chipped by Messi in his last game.

Haven't seen him play for a long while so can't make the same strong opinion that I once had that he was a flashy shot stopper and not much else.

He'll be an absolute fecking disaster if he comes to the Premier League, based on the little I've seen of him. He's shit on crosses, and he has absolutely no presence or organisation back there. He's a shot stopper, but you need more than that at this level.

I think that's the one aspect of his game that has been getting better lately.

Short? last time i checked 6ft was tall...

strange.

6 feet tall may be just above average for a man on the street. Top keepers are usually pretty tall last time I checked...

Casillas is a very rare exception, but Ochoa can hardly be mentioned in the same breath as him.

intresting, the clip shows how he deals with shots. it would be nice to see him collecting some croses.

Wengers taking a fancy to the young man apparently.

He's a short-arse for a keeper. He seems to prefer blocking rather than catching.

What's he like with corners?

Thought he was excellent in the Copa America, especially since he started the tournament on the bench.

Haven't seen him since.

Shit that last save on that video is unreal!

6" is tiny though, and if he does block more than catch like 032 says then that's not good.

Ochoa's a good keeper, and he's been playing better so far this season than he did last, so he's still improving. He's the first choice mexican international keeper now too, Aguirre rotated between three keepers when he first took over earlier in the year, but I believe he picked Ochoa for most if not all of their remaining WCQ games.

As has been said, he's got fast reflexes and he's a good shot stopper, but admittedly he did have one or two flappy moments in what I saw of him last season. He's playing behind a slightly stronger backline at club level this season, and I can't remember too many big mistakes from him so far. As was also said, he seems to be improving how he deals with crosses this season, although there's still the odd occasion he'll get it a bit wrong.

I'd like to see him at United because I like him as a player, I'd feel he's better than what we have behind Van der Sar at the moment, and he's only 24 and has been building up quite a reputation for himself for some time now. However, it might be a couple more years before he we see if he fulfills his potential enough to be automatic first choice at a really big club, and right now United probably aren't in the best position to offer that role. There've been rumours of him moving for some time now, I'd say there's a good chance it could happen after the world cup. A mid to upper level spanish club might be an ideal place for him to raise the bar for himself.

Ok, so according to the Mexican press, Chicharito told Sir Alex that Ochoa would be the perfect replacement for Van der Sar, and the papers here are full with the rumour and photoshops:

I personally don't think this is true, the press here is like reading the Sun and are full of shit. No one should read them. However, there's the rumour for you. I mean, if some of you use goal.com or caughtoffside as references, then the Mexican press is in the same level of shite.

As for Ochoa, he's not even the best of the country anymore, he's been going down since before the World Cup, and even though Chepo de la Torre (the new National Team manager) called him up for these next games, I think Talavera will start in goal. I even consider Corona to be better than Ochoa at the moment.

So, no. Not really possible. I think Fergie would go for someone already stablished in Europe, close to top level or top level already, and not Ochoa.

He was absolutely raved about three or four years ago but doesn't seem to have made his predicted break through. In fact, he can't even push his way in front of what seems like a very average goalkeeper for the Mexican number 1 shirt. And I can never be fully confident with a keeper that is only 6'0.
