Film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3

Best movie series in the MCU, I enjoyed all three, I really liked Chukwudi Iwuji's performance as the villain and the movie was very well-paced especially with the flashbacks

I really enjoyed it. Like others have said, good laughs and some really emotional parts too. I'm sad as this seems like an end of an era. I didn't like Shang Chi (the character was fine, I just didn't care for the movie), I have no interest in Ms Marvel or the attempts that will be made to make Captain Marvel likeable, I liked the Black Panther character but not sure about his replacement, Thor will no longer have Taika, I liked Spiderman/Doctor Strange than most but not sure how much further they can carry their story. Not a fan of most of the Disney+ shows.

As crazy as it was that they were able to finish phases 1-3 with two fantastic Avengers movies, it'll be even crazier if they can somehow make future Avenger movies anywhere near as well. Odds are heavily against them though

Come on now, you must know Morbius isn't an MCU film.

Anyway, just seen this one and it's definitely the best actual MCU film for a few years, but not perfect by any means. I think that it's becoming harder as every new film needs to almost double the number of characters within their individual universe, and that is also this film's weakness.

I was referring to Marvel in general rather than the MCU characters!

Easily the best Marvel output since the last Spiderman
I felt the last spiderman was so wank, riding on nostalgia of previous casts to actually get some props.

This film had actual substance though.

Oh 100% - I just thought it actually pulled it off really well.

Everything since has ranged from meh to gash though. Most stuff since End Game to be fair (think Shang-Chi is the only other one I enjoyed)

especially as it’ll be box ticking diversity avengers instead of the OG lot.

Went to see it with my lad tonight, thought it was excellent and the ending really closed off everyone’s story arc in a good way.

Gunn is the master of these type of films with heart, comedy and action, which can only bode well for the DCEU going forward

Thought it was brilliant. A good well balanced mixture of action, comedy & heartfelt moments. Music soundtrack was great too. Certainly the best thing Marvel have put out for some time as these recent films and tv series have been shite.

DC looks like they are going to be in good hands under James Gunn.

Yeah it was pretty good. I've always enjoyed the Guardians films ahead of the other Marvel stuff. The chemistry between everyone in the group always felt natural and gave it a certain charm that those other films lacked. Music is always on point too.

Focusing the story around Rocket and his past was both the films strongest and weakest point for me. Strong in that it was quite moving at times but the flipside being that you lost the wisecracking Rocket character for 75% of the movie.

First one is still my favourite, just. Then this one.

So it seems like Gunn and Taiki both didnt like that Thor ended up with Guardians at the end of Endgame (was a feige move) - and a few other things that was a result of the avengers movies that affected the next movies. I guess obviously with James Gunn being fired then rehired that didnt help.

So Taiki basically just wrote the Guardians out of the Thor movie and ended that notion as quick as it started (and Gunn would have just pretended it never happened if his movie came first).
Also why you saw Thors movie rush through getting rid of his fatness etc.

I do think Gunn did a better job though overall, because Thor still had time after that but relied too much on jokes especially with heavy stuff in the movie like cancer, god killers etc.
Whereas Gunn still had humour but it was used at the right times and certainly not with the heavier bits of the movie.

The Rocket origin stuff was absolutely brutal to watch.

Might be the first time I've cried my eyes out watching a film since Watership Down.

Not sure what it says about me that I can watch shit like Saw or Hostel and not be bothered but if some animated animals go through it, I'm a mess.

The studio will ultimately have decided what Thors role in each movie was to be, if he needed to get somewhere/something by. Taika and Gunn couldn’t unilaterally decide not to use him.

Brilliant film.

May be my favourite Marvel film ever. They nailed everything about it and it was genuinely emotional.

I finally saw it over the weekend. I thought this was better than the second. More emotional, funnier, High Evolutionary was good. Adam Warlock was interesting. I was wondering how they would integrate him and change up the character since he comes in after Thanos who is his main villian pretty much.

All the main characters got some growth and decent plots.

Just got back from it and it was a hard watch at times. Whenever it would flashback to Rockets origins something got in my eye... Easily, the best Marvel movie since Endgame. This gives me massive amounts of hope for what Gunn can bring to the DC movies.

Just watched it. Really good. The Guardians movies have been a real high point of the mcu. A real pos villain helped massively. That guy needed his comeuppance.

Watched it. Loved it. Want to go and see it again already.

Jesus fecking christ the bar is low among Marvel fans. It was utter thrash. The constant family dialogues would put Fast and Furious to shame. There was obviously no plot which was expected tbf but the characters constantly getting in life threatening situations with the other loudly proclaiming “He’s family we gotta save him” got old after the 5th time.

Rocket Racoon had the most memorable and funny dialogues in the first two and Gunn made the absurd call of having him barely utter 10 words throughout.

The more I think of it, the more its like the Fast and Furious series where characters become alive again and the bad guys join with the good guys because family.

What even was the point of Will Poutler

I really hate it when people sit on the fence when reviewing something.

I get people having different opinions but having a go at other people who have a different opinion or taste is always weird

I thought the Rocket origin stuff was fantastic. It could have been a standalone film on its own and would have been really moving.

A lot of these superhero films stand or fall on the strength of their villain. I thought Iwuji was great here and managed to hold my attention even though the film was too long.

I was very entertained and surely that is all we ask for from these kind of films!

Exactly. Yeah, fully agree.

Great villain, good story, lots of payoffs.

It was... ok, I guess? I think it benefits from having been released at a moment when all the other Marvel films have been such utter trash (the bar wasn't that high, but goodness the past few ones were brutal), but it doesn't have the freshness the first one genuinely had, for me. The Rocket origins stuff was very good though, I can't believe I actually felt moved about all that but yeah it worked. The soundtrack was good at times, a bit easy and predictable at others, but overall enjoyable.

I don't regret going to the cinema to see it, but I'm pretty sure I'll have forgotten most of it in a couple of days.

Just watched it last night and I enjoyed it. I'm not really a fan of the Marvel films and it's the first entry I've watched in years, but I've always had a soft spot for the GOTG films. Liked the soundtrack, I like spacehog a lot. Like most in here I enjoyed the rocket origin stuff, would have liked to see them use Poulter a bit more as I think he's been great in other things. I'd give it a solid 7/10, and the kids I watched it with had a great time.

Yeah I didn’t think it was remotely as good as the first two. The casts of these marvel films are just too massive now and I can’t remember who half of them are or what they did.

I actually think the game that came out last year had a much more fun story!

Lots of good stuff, some proper laugh out loud moments, but at least an hour too long as they needlessly wrapped it all up while introducing characters not required for this film. Definitely better than all the dreck Marvel have put out since... Endgame? I guess was the last good one?

Yeah I personally did think that was a bit of a problem too. Like I said I enjoyed it but it did feel like it struggled a bit to balance the whole cast.

Just watched this again, it's a great movie. Made even better due to the fact it's the best sequel post end game where the characters don't really become joke versions of themselves

All characters evolve and get better through the movie. The tunnel fight scene is still awesome and manages to showcases each characters strengths.

The only thing I didn't like is they did the copout "will this character die" a few times

Also the villain was good which usually makes for a good CBM

Agree with all that, especially the "will they die" thing. It keeps happening and is so problematic for MCU. I still can't believe any of those people pretending to be upset about Spiderman getting bliped were actually upset. Of course he's okay, character deaths are more related to actors contracts than they are plot.

I've mentioned it before but seeing IW in the cinema was awesome especially the number of kids that were crying due to the ending. Was great

For this movie I would have believed there was a chance quill was frozen if they hadn't done the stuff before.
In CBM movies in general we know the top billed star will hardly die, so I think it makes sense when the stakes are more on others

It was utter thrash.

Yup I'm with you, got basically conned into watching this (after avoiding all marvel movies/ series for a couple of years) by a mate (plus other news / media sources) who was telling me how it was refreshingly good compared to some of the other recent Marvel blockbusters.

If this is what is regarded as a "good" Marvel film I can't imagine how bad the ones that get slated are.

I absolutely hated it, am very happy I didn't pay to see it and it's set me back years in convincing the missus to watch super hero movies with me.

The kids dance scene at the end was the diarrhea icing on top of the half baked turd cake.

I watched this last night and thought it was great.

For a CGI-fest featuring an animal as its main star, there was a considerable amount of depth and emotion to it. Maybe it's because I'm a dad now that I've become more emotional. But the scenes with Raccoon, the otter, walrus and rabbit really were sad...and they're all CGI'd! Raccoon's backstory was really nicely put together and the whole story worked. There was humour when there needed to be, drama when it was needed, and one thing you rarely see in these Marvel-CGI fests...there was some genuine character development and growth. All of the main roster got good screentime as well, and there were some genuinely touching moments. Nebula saying Drax isn't a destroyer...but a dad really got to me (see earlier comment about becoming a dad). But all the characters got a nice ending. Also, even though she's green and got markings all over, Zoe Saldana...

Although he was literally not needed, I thought Will Poulter was so funny/silly. I enjoy watching him. Also, I thought Adam Warlock is meant to be one of the most powerful beings? He seemed a bit rubbish here. And it was never explained why Rocket had exceptional intelligence - why was he smarter than the High Evolutionary?

So yea, James Gunn has delivered a really fitting nice end to the trilogy. 8.5/10

Whilst I enjoyed it and felt it was a solid film I think this would have been a better movie. I didn’t think I’d give a shit about rocket’s origin story but it was easily the best thing about the film.
