Grenfell Tower Fire | 14th June 2017

Awful news. Even just looking at the footage of the flames makes you shocked and you cant imagine what the people in that building were going through.

ITV saying multiple residents who got out did not hear a fire alarm.

One resident saying he only got out because he was woken up by loud shouting with people shouting "don't jump".

On another note, the company that handled last year's renovations has cleaned all references to their work from their website, but they can't escape the internet's history machine:

Thats the scary thing about living in dense high rise buildings --you just need an idiot falling asleep with his ciggie in his hand...

Well not really. Properly built high rises have fireproof structures and rescue floors so this can never happen. Something was missed here and people will pay.

A friend in a nearby building is posting on Facebook how no sprinklers or fire alarms went off.

Labour MP saying Government resisted calls to install fire sprinkler systems in high rise buildings.

Whichever MP said that is scum. Its just been hours since people have burned to death and they want to score political points over it.

A witness/resident said that his friend from the 4th floor told him that his fridge exploded -- that may have started the entire thing.

From the webarchive cache re the refurbishment: "Externally, rain screen cladding, curtain wall façade and replacement windows were fitted, improving thermal insulation and modernising the exterior of the building."

Labour MP Jim Fitzpatrick - a former fire fighter - said the Government has resisted calls to install sprinkler systems in high-rise blocks in the wake of the Lakanal House tragedy in Camberwell in 2009, which left 6 people dead.

Mr Fitzpatrick, who is chairman of the all-party Parliamentary Fire Safety and Rescue Group, told LBC: "We've been pressing for fire sprinkler systems in buildings where we think it's appropriate - certainly over a height level and in places where there is vulnerability, care homes and in schools - and Government has been resisting that for some time."

But the MP for Poplar and Limehouse added: "There's obviously a huge number of questions going to have to be asked about what happened to Latimer Road but it's very early in the situation.

"It's a bit early to start pointing fingers, I would have thought."

I read of reports in the past years of power surges and reports of people unhappy with the wiring.

Wet towels under the doors , FFS what do they think it is a fecking film, looking at the footage that would not be close to helping.

Gets wprse all the time, Witnesses describe hearing screams, watching people jump out the burning building and a woman holding a baby out of a window.
They were told to do it, and survived

Regardless, what else can you do

I am not sure that advice isn't right - it's often the opening of doors and windows that allows in extra oxygen to feed the flames is it not?

This is only a witness , nothing offical.

A witness has told Sky News he believes that 10 people jumped, including one that was on the 16th floor. He understands that at least 10 to 15 people have died. More detail to follow...

Horrific, can this country take anymore of a kicking.

Heartbreaking stuff.

That should be treated like destroying evidence and potentially attempted obstruction of justice.

Yeah and I'm pretty sure if you open a door or window the extra oxygen can cause a massive backdraught to blow into the room, it doesn't just creep in.

Is there an obligation for private companies to provide details about their work on the internet? It's not like they deleted it, they just took it off the homepage.

As long as they don't destroy the contracts and bills, it's nothing. They just don't want to advertise that, you can disagree with it though.

The site has not edited anything and still has the same stuff as the screen shot.

I suspect the site will have had server issues due to heavy traffic, which resulted in the site having issues early on.

Fair enough

You'd hope she isn't taking the piss...

they have the director of the company that put the cladding up on ITV and Morgan asked him if the cladding used, was 100% up to all the fire and Heath /Safety regs and he never answered the question.
The director of the company does not have a clue what the cladding is made of.

I dont like Morgan , but he is rightly ripping in to this director, who frankly sounds like a fecking idiot.

and the director hung up on Morgan!!

Most directors haven't got a fecking clue what their companies do, the glass ceiling in most Engineering and construction companies separates a bunch of corporate climbers and political lobbysist with MBAs, graphs and charts who answer to the shareholders from the engineering staff who actually carry out the work. Hopefully for their sake their paperwork was in order but something has clearly gone wrong and somebody will be made to answer for it unless it can be proven that the cause and chain of events was impossible to predict.

I understand that , but if you are the director of a company that this has happened to and you knew you was going to be asked question like this , would you not find out before you went on live TV.
He did himself and his company no favours what so ever and to just hang up the phone.

If you're on twitter a lot of people who live in the area, or are previous residents are telling their story of the ineptness of the council for years.

"they questioned government support of profit margins over safety! Scum!"

Wise up.

I suspect most would decline the interview and say a statement would be issued once all the information had been gathered. It's a sad reality in construction, I've been inside companies 4 times now where we've had accidents with multiple fatalities plus one where a crane collapsed across a busy road in rush hour and somehow missed every single car, thankfully my local MDs were always Engineers who understood the business but the instruction from board level back in Europe was always to refuse to speak to the media, we'd have been dismissed for doing so before all the facts were known.

There's a time and a place to jump up and down and try and score political points though surely?

To be fair the fire started less than 12 hours ago and we don't know what caused it or why it spread like it did. So might be a bit soon to start pointing fingers.

When a drink driver kills someone in a crash you don't go about warning the anti drink driving groups not to point score. Pointing out cause and effect is fair game.
