Why would you want a player who is prone to being sent off

Because it reminds me of Keane and IMO he shares some of his strengths. He's that good that it'll be annoying when he's suspended, but you'll take it since he brings the leadership, combativeness, skill and desire.

I can't think of a player, who combines all those traits other than Vidal and Schweinsteiger of old to be honest.

Him and Coq would be a laugh in midfield.

Race to red, go go go!!

The red cards are imo just the result of a bigger issue with him. He is far from the finished product but extremely arrogant and self-confident. He is very talented but if he wants to be an important player for a top team, he has still a long way to go. I am not sure if he is ready to put in the necessary work. Gladbach are a great environment for a young player; very calm, stable and easy-tempered. I am not sure how he´d act without that.

5 reds in 4 seasons isn't exactly prone? 3 of those reds is this season and only 1 of those is a direct red card. Hardly terrible.
Is there a player in the top leagues who has been sent off more often in the last 4 years?

Didn't think they'd need another holding/box to box player, especially with the addition of Elneny. That said, they will most likely get rid of Flamini and Arteta, leaving them with:

Coquelin
Ramsey
Elneny
Cazorla
Wilshere (can't stay fit)

No idea, Wanyama has 3 reds this season for Newcastle. 5 in 4 seasons isn't the worst, it'd be different if they were mostly direct Reds, but indirect just suggests he needs to tone down his aggression a bit. 3 reds in half a season for Gladbach this year, perhaps just instructed badly?

I was asking why he'd want one in general, not necessarily aimed at Xhaka.

I'm still not sure if he's great or an unreliable idiot. Would be in theory an excellent fit for Arsenal if he stops getting himself sent off.

If he is an unreliable idiot that would fit our criteria as well  He'd replace Flamini :D

So what are your views on him now Balu? We are being very strongly linked in the press, some very specific numbers coming out as well.

He's a great midfield allrounder, does well this season as the deepest midfielder. I don't think he plays on last year's level though, but Gladbach's season has overall been a bit chaotic, so it's not all his fault. It's impressive that he has worked well next to different types of midfielders (next to a DM in Nordtveit, a box to box midfielder in Kramer or now next to Dahoud, who's a playmaker himself). He always adapted his game to keep the midfield balanced. So the Schweinsteiger comparisons did make a bit of sense. He's a similar type of midfielder and he was rumoured a few times the last few years to become his replacement at Bayern, not sure if there was ever any truth to it. I could see him making the step up to a bigger club, his game is mature enough already. Just not fully convinced on his personality.

Bild aren't the reliable ones are they? Sport Bild I think are much better iirc.

Both aren't reliable. Only Bild regarding Bayern has some reliability.

I don't really see the point for Arsenal to sign him. They have Cazorla, Coquelin, Elneny, Wilshere and Ramsey in his position. Actually I just don't want them to.

With Arteta and Flamini on the way out, Wilshere permanently broken and Cazorla hitting 32, it wouldn't be a bad investment. Ramseys suitability for CM is questionable too.

that's a big outlay on a player not as big a name as sanchez/ozil. would be interesting to see if arsenal do put their money where their mouth is.

So this one is happening? Another day, another report. Cant believe it, Arsenal spunking 35m on a midfielder they need.

Thanks for that, whether it him or someone else we desperately need another CM. Currently have very poor balance in that area of the pitch, which also happens to be one of the most important.

About him being a hot head, I think as players get older they usually control that side of their game better. This is a bit of a physical league as well, wouldn't be the worst thing having someone with a bit of a temper in our team!

Hearing from Twitter that according to German media outlet Sport1 (not sure if reliable) his future has been sorted and will be joining Arsenal in the summer.

Too much smoke, at this point i guess he is close to a move. Good buy if true, exactly what they need.

Thats an excellent signing for them if true. A little bit jealous...

Comparing Xhaka to Elneny and Coquelin my word, you must not have seen him play. Players like Xhaka are hard to come by, a very limited breed, he's gets stuck in, know how to control games and most importantly is his range of passing and manner in which he does it will change the dynamics of the team he plays for. He has the potential to be top class. His passing reminds me of Scholes, Pirlo, Xavi, Alonso, Carrick intelligence. He's like Kroos, Strootman, Verratti of today's game. Not a player to be overlooked.

You mean a player who a club have made sure they have him signed, while we supposedly watch someone over 20 times to watch him join someone else and then say we were never going to sign him anyway.

Where in that piece of text was I comparing them? :wenger:

For God's sake he is exactly who we need. I have been saying it for ages.

Everyone said that about Schneiderlin though.
Xhaka can dictate play far better than Schneiderlin. He can pass well and can defend well. I think he can be both a box to box as well as #6. He would be a great acquisition for Arsenal.

John Cross of the Mirror trying to justify spending 50m euros on someone who has never played in the prem, over spending £20m on Kante of Leicester.

He is annoying as feck, if Xhaka falls through and they sign Kante, he will go the opposite way then and claim Xhaka wasnt worth it

I wanted both him & Shaqiri after our match against Basel. Don't really know much about him since that (aside from FM) but he seems to be getting a lot of interest.

With fairness to Cross, Premiership-proven seems to be more of a curse for the big clubs these days than a blessing.
that is true, but I think Kante is going to be just as good next year and id have quite happily put 20m down for him if i was Wenger.

I think Xhaka is a much better player tbh, Kante is very good but Xhaka has way more to his game which I feel Arsenal need. He can dictate the game for them, Coq can do the dirty work
