Good Available Wingers

If Nani goes I think we could do with a bit more proven quality than two young wingers with very little top flight experience between them.

Indeed, and I truly hope Nani will stay. If Moyes prefers to use wingers who tuck in and for the fullbacks to provide width, then Nani is certainly a better option than Valencia. Young is an OK option on the left who likes to tuck in and has a fairly decent delivery and shot, but he isn't world class, imo.

McManaman is very exciting though, so signing him could be worthwhile.

If we sell Nani, I do think we probably need a new winger who can operate both sides. However, selling Nani for 20m won't give us the same quality in return.

Di Maria seems like the best and most obvious solution to me. Good age, he'll give us what Nani gave us in top form, he'll be reasonably cheap I'd think (unlike Bale/Ronaldo).

However given we've failed to sign Nani up due to wage demands, I can't imagine the Argentinian will come any cheaper...

That Ronaldo lad might be worth a shout.

I hope Nani stays as well but it has been a long time since there has been any news stories on his contract situation other than various clubs wanting to buy him, and without him I think we'll really need a more versatile crative option to add to our attacking options in the 3 behind RvP.

I think McManaman looks a really good prospect but he's only really had a few months of experience, we already have Zaha who will need developing so I'd leave McManaman where he is for now.

I'd love to see Di Maria here I must admit. He'd be great for us and fit us perfectly. He works incredibly hard, is lightening fast and has an end product.

Is he though? Always thought of him having good pace, but not in the bracket of lightning fast players like Walcott, Bale, Valencia, Ronaldo or even Nani.

He's a great player though, and one whom I believe would suit us well.

His antics are disgusting, he dives all the time. If Nani goes, I hope we sign Reus for £30m (his release clause).

Antoine Griezmann anyone? Left footed as well something we haven't had in a while

Di Maria is Nani level fast, not as much as the others at full pelt, although his acceleration is better than Ronaldo's or Bale's.

Gareth Bale!

If he's not available this summer then save up the $$ and go for him next summer.

I don't think we need another good winger, we have several good options already and I'd rather show patience with Valencia, Young and co than buy another winger on a similar level. What we could definitely benefit from though is a world class match-winning beast!

Bernard from Athletico Miniero.

The defenses are so bad it's hard to gauge anything but he's nippy and looks comfortable on either foot. Interesting to see a slimmed down Ronaldinho in there scoring a couple of crackers.

Konoplyanka, Alejandro Gomez, Maxi Moralez, Jesus Corona, Lazar Markovic, Eduardo Salvio and Alessio Cerci. There is a plethora of quality wingers that are attainable.

Cerci? Really?

Half of those you mentioned are unproven.

Only seen Konoplyanka at the Euros. Was excellent there.

None of those you mentioned are better than what we have.

Everyone that has watched him play can see his quality. It was evident a couple of years ago that he had bags of talent and he's been consistent since then.

Would you say no to Busquets? they are as 'disgusting' as each other.

Di Maria is, imho, the only winger that could replace Nani without a noticeable loss of threat Nani used to provide. And not many quality winger who are willing to track back and defending as much as Di Maria.

Busquets is much worse. I don't know anyone who feigns injuries as much and tries as hard to get opposition players booked.

Arshavin - 10k basic wage, 50k bonus per goal, £5m bonus for quadruples vs Liverpool

sorted

Except he is not a winger.

what type of winger we looking at here, pretty vague. arshavin has played and excelled on the wing many a time....though obviously i wasn't being serious

He doesn't like playing on the wing though does he? Much better through the middle anyway

I'd still take Alexis in a heartbeat, I think we could remove the shackles he's had on at Barca.

Agreed. He's one of the few players I'd consider a decent replacement for Nani. Nothing to suggest that we wouldn't see the Udinese Sanchez rather than the Barca Sanchez.

not a winger

What, in today's game, is a "winger"?

Do we mean someone who rarely strays more than 5 yards from the touch line, beats two men on the dribble and puts in a beautiful cross and little more? If that's so, there aren't many wingers left.

Ronaldo happily gallops anywhere on the pitch that pleases him, but he's more than comfortable beating 3 men on the dribble near the touch line and putting in a fine cross. Or, should be in the mood, cut in to wreak havoc. Today's wingers, at least the best of them, do that with great frequency. Ronaldo is enough of a winger to classify him as such. He's not a target man in the mold of Ruud. He goes here, he goes there and does pretty much whatever the feck he thinks will most likely result in a goal. That seems like a reasonable approach to the game, if you've got the talent to pull it off. By most accounts, Ronaldo has that talent to pull it off.
