Duncan Castles: Glazers tell NYSE to expect Champions League qualification.
It really is a joke.I would like to see someone name a similar club of stature & financial strength to ours, where the owners could sell our "youth strategy" to their fans?
Imagine telling the fans of Real/Barca/Bayern to forget about competing at all for the next few years. You have to expect to lose for x number of years to win in the future. That's the way all rebuilds are done.
It just wouldn't happen, there would be riots.
Only at this docile club would the fans, so wholeheartedly accept the wool being pulled over their eyes.
Maybe they are talking about the women's team.Duncan Castles: Glazers tell NYSE to expect Champions League qualification.
Or maybe they have a manager lined up who they feel will deliver with the January transfer window also around the corner.Maybe they are talking about the women's team.

But what is clear for the owners is Champions League qualification. Which seems to be the bare minimum requirement.
The Glazers having no clue?Even the best manager we could get is going to struggle to achieve that, its totally unrealistic and if they think it is a realistic expectation then the Glazers have no clue
The Glazers have very little interest in the actual football side and everything is measured up financially IMO. With Poch being completely free and without the need to hand Levy £40m in compensation, the Glazers will be tempted with Ed Woodward being a huge admirer of the Argentine, if reports are to be believed.Even the best manager we could get is going to struggle to achieve that, its totally unrealistic and if they think it is a realistic expectation then the Glazers have no clue

If they had a clue, we wouldn't be in the state we currently are with ridiculous amounts of money wasted. The Glazers having no clue?
That never crossed my mind.If they had a clue, we wouldn't be in the state we currently are with ridiculous amounts of money wasted.
You don't have to be a magician to finish ahead of two of the following teams, Leicester, Spurs, Chelsea. A new man with a broader approach in identifying talent can make a difference in the january transfer window and we still have Pogba to return.Thats great but he isn't going to get us UCL football with this squad, even with additions in January. Poch isn't a magician

You can get top players in January who are on the cusp of being top class. There's players in the Bundesliga, SerieA, La liga etc that can be signed that would galvanise the midfield. Two midfielders would change the dynamics of the whole midfield which would bring us into contention. We will drop points but our potential top 4 rivals will too IMO.If you have given them a 10 point headstart (will likely be bigger by Jan) and also have a worse squad (you are not going to get top top talent in Jan) we can get improvements though. I would say you do need to be a magician
Even without Sancho in January we could compete for top 4. I'd personally sign Lobotka from Celta straight away. And it's a deal that looks very doable in January for a class player. With Sancho and a class central midfielder coming in january we would maybe have a chance.
I'm sure Woodward is already working on it. The guy knows his football.Even without Sancho in January we could compete for top 4. I'd personally sign Lobotka from Celta straight away. And it's a deal that looks very doable in January for a class player.

One more injury to Pogba and we're done. One injury to our regular CBs and it pushes Phil Jones up the pecking order and we're done. One injury to Martial/James/Rashford and you're done
I'd forgot all about Woodward, thanks for reminding me.I'm sure Woodward is already working on it. The guy knows his football.
One injury to Shaw or AWB and we are back to Ashley Young. Captain, leader, corner specialist. One more injury to Pogba and we're done. One injury to our regular CBs and it pushes Phil Jones up the pecking order and we're done.
We have to think positive and make positive moves because a defeatist mentality shouldn't be adopted at a club with huge aspirations.
That might actually bring Ethan Laird into the frame, which might not be such a bad thing. Laird and Williams at fullback would give me immense joy..One injury to Shaw or AWB and we are back to Ashley Young. Captain, leader, corner specialist.
Can't wait to see the lad being slaughtered by the social media experts, starting tomorrow probably. That might actually bring Ethan Laird into the frame, which might not be such a bad thing. Laird and Williams at fullback would give me immense joy..
If he doesn't display excellence tomorrow then I see the usual suspects posting about how over-rated our youth players are. And some will even suggest a loan. Can't wait to see the lad being slaughtered by the social media experts, starting tomorrow probably.
If the owners expect expect Champions League with this squad they are mad. It's clear we are lacking in key areas. If they expect Champions League football. I think they should have invested more to give us a better chance of achieving it.Or maybe they have a manager lined up who they feel will deliver with the January transfer window also around the corner.

A loan is a great idea especially as we have AWB. Getting a full season playing at senior level would be great for some of themIf he doesn't display excellence tomorrow then I see the usual suspects posting about how over-rated our youth players are. And some will even suggest a loan.
I think we'll see afew going on loan soon enough. Williams seems to be one of the options at LB currently and Laird is a better player. So it'll be interesting to see how the rest of the season pans out and I hope Laird can steer clear of injuries or else he would've made his first team debut by now IMO.A loan is a great idea especially as we have AWB. Don't think we are going to qualify to the Champions League by qualifying for top 4 and the only route I could see us doing that is winning the Europa which is going to be a hard task in itself, considering the teams that could be dropping down from the Champions League. I think we should a new midfielder and striker in January and go all out to try to win the Europa. What proof is there that Ole can get us up to the CL? Ed needs to act asap. However, if it is to be Poch, he clearly needs some time off before going into management again, so it won't be simple as sacking Ole now and recruiting Poch.

What proof is there that anyone can? Jose & LVG failed as often as not. The squads haven't been good enough and it still isn't. It can't always just come down to the management staff.
No but they have a better team with a better team fluidity, better drilled unit.Since they are partly responsible for building the squads they have to take some blame. Also they are responsible for maximising squad output which isnt happening right now.
Sheffield actually do not have a better squad
Indeed that is down to the manager not the squadNo but they have a better team with a better team fluidity, better drilled unit.
Agree, that also comes with the time the manager has had to implement his ideas.Indeed that is down to the manager not the squad

You are partly right and partly wrong IMO.
Right because its a big ask for fans of any big club to accept a project that will make short term success more difficult
Wrong because outside of our league there is very little competition for these super clubs. It would actually be a lot easier for those clubs to implement and rebuild because they are so dominant that domestically it probably wouldn't hurt them all that much. Outside of an instant £300-500m investment on the squad, there isn't much we can do to catch up with City & Liverpool. The strategy of building a squad that will peak in 2 years time is actually a really good strategy and if it works out well we should find ourselves ahead of the curve.
So when you call the club docile, I disagree entirely. I think we are giving ourselves the best possibility of getting back to being the dominant team.
The whole three year plan/rebuild is supposed to be about closing the gap and competing with City/Liverpool. About taking a team from 6th in the table to competing for first.
What we’ve actually got is an incompetent manager, CEO and recruitment team making us even worse than last year and seeing that gap widen. This season is planned, we’re not supposed to be struggling and getting worse. It’s just fans being asked to accept and ignore incompetence and being told one excuse after another.
