Give Diego a break Roy

Why did Roy tell Ruud to take the penalty when Ruud gave the chance to Diego? :(

And what if he'd have missed it? Roy ain't stupid.

who fecking cares if he missed, everyone wanted it and we were 3-0 up, didn't u hear the crowd <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Roy was being professional. And rightly so.

You don't just start taking the piss out of the opposition.

Well done by Roy

1) He's the captain, he can make decisions like that

2) We weren't home and dry yet, be professional till the end

3) If Forlan had missed, he might as well had packed his bags and gone back home to Montevideo

You are missing the point. What good would it have done for Diego's confidence had he missed it? Who cares about what the crowd wanted.

Professional if diego missed and they scored enough to win the game who would of got the rocket up his arse also a strikers first competitive goal a penalty they would much rather get it from open play and im not certain diego wanted to take it

I'm worried about how this match will effect Diego's confidence, he must be gutted for his goal to be ruled offside, and to not take the penalty when he must have thought he was going to take it and then be told basically, we don't trust you. I'd have liked him to take it, though I don't know if he took penalties for Independiente or not.

Another very good reason from the fat one.

The goal was not ruled offside Neil it was disallowed as the ball was out of play before the cross came over nothing Diego could do about that

Depends on whether, in his view, the glass is half full or half empty.

I would see it as a positive.

An offside goal is not his fault - no reason to be down. Corelive has it spot on re the pen.

wasn't offside never could have been, only thing that it could have been was that the ball went out before giggs passed it

Slip of the tongue, I even corrected myself in the match thread, it was just out of play before Giggs crossed it in. Alex just said it was very unfortunate it must have only been an inch over the line.

Yeah Neale, it wasn't offside - you're confusing me you cnut. Still wasn't Diego's fault though, so no reason to be down.

Alex ain't confident of signing Escude, he'd like a couple of defenders and is looking at one or two options. Seems resigned to not getting what he wants - probably due to the money men.

the bottom line is...Diego Forlan is not a natural goalscorer...and it doesn't take scooby-doo to work that one out. Just contrast Solskjaer's cameo with that of the Uraguayan's.
One chance for Ole.....one goal!
Forlan had a pretty ropey goal-scoring record in Argentina too...skillfull,bright,the odd fantastic goal(as in the World Cup)...but do we think when he scores he will suddenly become a 15 goal a season player?
Hmmmmm....for all his undoubted enthusiasm he might as well be a tanked-up jordaned-up Dwight Yorke...except Yorkie knew how to score.

I think Forlan will prove you wrong. Come back in two or three years mate (please).

What amazes me is that because we've bought Diego, everyone supports him to the point of saying stuff like he should be starting alongside Ruud, despite showing little sign of being a prolific scorer.

And yet those people are virtually discarding Ole, who looks like scoring nearly every game he plays, and invariably does.

Ole, looks sharp.. TBH more than RVN.

feel free to disagree........

I hope Diego does prove me wrong...but some players are born goalscorers and some are not.
What were we buying when we went for Forlan...goals or just bright creative play?
I admit he is a very lively enthusiastic forward who is only getting 15 mins here and there to impress...but...as things stand we only have 3 strikers now...we can't afford for our 3rd attacker to carry a minimal goal threat.

The comparison with Ole is invalid unless you are talking about Ole 5 or 6 years ago. The concept of potential has been conveniently discarded by our friend redpie for the purpose of a cheap shot.

I don't think Liv, I certainly don't. It should be ole and ruud, with Forlan given at least 20 mins to half an hour and the occasional full game to keep ruud and ole fresh and hungry.

Ruud just explained that he was going to let Diego take it as the crowd wanted it, but Roy had a word and said they must make sure they get the 4th. It was captains orders.

agreed

when is ole NOT sharpe ;)

but RVN looked much better today than he did vs WBA or chelsea although the oppostion were bloody shit tonite, his first goal was a great finish a near carbon copy of a few he got last season and long may it continue.

I've seen comments from several people on several message boards who, when they put their predicted line=up, will put Forlan and RVN.

But don't get me wrong. I think Forlan could be excellent on the wings - he's quick, he's creative, and he carves openings. I think he will prove to be an excellent buy, whether he becomes a prolific goal-scorer or not.

Most of the players have had a start to get their fitness and sharpness up. Forlan hasn't, maybe thats why? He certainly shouldn't be first choice, but the need to rotate is always there and we know we can rely on Ole for goals, we need Forlan though to cut his teeth and get his confidence up, and he can only do that by playing.
