German Football 21/22 | Gladbach sign Farke

Fair enough. And I wasn't entirely joking. Every year there is one club, who suddenly battles for promotion after finishing mid table. Who knows what club it'll be next season.
That's certainly true, but fairly sure Karlsruhe will rather be fighting for survival unless they find a solution for the Hofmann shaped problem in their attack, his goals will be very hard to replace

All our hopes rest on the shoulders of Ricardo Pepi now.

Cologne in Europe next season...

(I still remember when they stormed the place when they got relegated in 2012 or 2013?)

I really wonder what kind of creative process led to Sky deciding they should spend 10% of their Saturday evening pre-match reporting on the toddler of their commentator. Every. Single. Week.

That's what Instagram is for..

Champions League football in the BayArena is back. Patrik Schick is the best striker in the league. All that matters today.

Can someone explain what "nur nach Hause fahrn wir nicht" is all about? Now that Loddar called it the best hymn in all of Germany and Frank Zander basically called it our best chance at world peace I really have to wonder, because I mainly associate that song with some balding and half delirious fans in pubs, half singing half crying it, who try to strike a balance between drinking yet more beer and not puking.

So what you're saying is it's perfect for the target audience? ^^
I remember when Hertha tried to change the hymn to Seeed's "Dickes B" and it lead to huge protests. I guess it was too modern for the Ultra's taste even though it's a 20 year old song as well.

Load of nonsense, that's obviously 'Bochum'

I guess you have a point there.
It just sounds so depressing and desperate to me, I genuinely have to think about suicide scene in movies or the last drunk at a bar, who has nothing to go home to, when I hear it and that's not exactly the purpose of a football hymn. Though maybe that precisely captures the essence of being a Hertha fan, I couldn't say.

Having the most successful German artist write love songs about your City is a little bit cheating though. Other clubs have to do with borrowed melodies and third rate writers.

I actually like that of Hamburg, too. And the one of Cologne, too. What I do not like is e.g. that Dortmund and Mainz play YAWN as it is not theirs...

Not that it's a musical masterpiece either, but Dortmund's equivalent would actually be:

Hamburg meine Perle is a bit like Grönemeyer's Bochum, though as far as I know they have stopped playing it. But Cologne's mer stönn zo dir (or however those Rhein rednecks actually spell it) is just a a borrowed melody rather than an original club hymn.

I know. But it is a local song that is sung in dialect what makes it matching.

It does. Have you been to watch Hertha at the Olypmpiastadion? Or in a West Berlin Hertha pub?

Pauli 2:0 up at Schalke... Next matchday is one to watch in Bundesliga 2...

Current table (Schalke is still playing and Bremen plays tomorrow)

Especially as there will be no direct duels between these 5. So everyone of them could directly be promoted, end in the playoffs, or be left out completely.

Schalke is now 3:2 up with about 10 minutes to go. If they win they are back in Bundesliga 1 next season.

What a night!

I feel a lot of pity for all the Bayern fans out there who shrug their shoulders when their team wins another title.

Definitely one of the best football moments in my entire life.

And thank you @do.ob

Welcome back Schalke and enjoy this moment @Rektsanwalt - that is what football is for :)

You don't know football fandom until you suffered relegation and celebrated promotion

Congratulations, my man!

What's this ongoing Ricardo Pepi joke about? Is it just the fact that he's a surprisingly expensive transfer for a team like Augsburg, or is there more to it?

A club like Augsburg, who are both poor and a bit of a nothing club, hijacking a Wolfsburg transfer for a high risk talent and using Romano to break it, because they wanted to conquer the American market was a bit like dipping into a parallel universe. The fact that he has done absolutely nothing ever since only adds to the joke.

And "show everyone that you're better than Messi" is what Löw supposedly told Götze, before bringing him on against Argentina in 2014. It's just a silly joke referring to the fact that "all" fans in Germany want Leipzig to miss top four/Augsburg beating them today. Almost as if it's a game of "die Mannschaft", though few will actually watch it of course.

Bayern have been awful to watch for months. Clueless defensively and clueless going forward. They hardly create anything for Lewandowski. Not even half chances. Can see why he wants to leave and is against Nagelsmann. He deserves much better than this.

Fair enough, didn't know the circumstances of that transfer but isn't Augsburg basically owned by their president, and then in turn through him somehow connected to some American hedge fund or am I making that part up?

But regarding Pepi, does anyone know if he was seen as a huge talent in the US prior to his move? Such a strange transfer anyway to make an 18 year old your record transfer by some distance

Augsburg, like all clubs that abide by 50+1, are controlled by fans. But they have sold some shares to an US investor, who reportedly paid part of Pepi's fee.

I think by US standards he's a pretty big talent, he scored double digits in his last MLS season and he's a starter for their NT.

For me the fun part is less about the player himself (I actually feel a bit sorry for him that he got baited into an Augsburg transfer and seems to be completely out of his depth in Bundesliga) and more about Augsburg randomly pretending to a big club for a day and getting absolutely nothing in return so far.

Massive defensive performance from woodwork, Bayern should try to sign him.

I knew relying on Bayern was a bad idea. ^^

Stuttgart hasn't won a match since mid-March and now all they have to do is beat Köln at home to secure the 15th Bundesliga spot. I don't think Hertha will stand a chance in Dortmund.

feck Bayern for that result. Really relied on them to relegate Stuttgart
