German Football 20/21

Disagree with all these "BuLi/SA/L1 are shit because they are one-horse race leagues"..

Honestly in the last four PL seasons we witnessed three non-existent title races: Chelsea (2016/17), Manchester City (2017/18) and Liverpool (2019/20) had their hands on the thropy already in December; on the contrary often Bundesliga or Serie A offer more exciting title races even if at the end Bayern and Juventus always win.

I'm a neutral about all the leagues but Serie A and , for example, last season I watched more Bundesliga games than PL's ones simply because there was a real fight for the Meisterschale at very least until BVB- Bayern while I felt like watching Liverpool or M.City was a waste of time as a neutral..

People bash the BuLi for this, but this is really no worse than if Fulham or WBA (who I think are appropriate comparisons for Schalke in its current state) would play their entire team in defence against City (as likely they will) and 'nick' a 2-0 loss. That doesn't look as embarrassing or lopsided, but the gulf in quality is the same.

Also have to laugh at the comment somewhere that it's predictable who'll take up places 2-4 in the league this year.

Bayern didn't walk the league without any opposition last year though. They had to work for most of their wins, just like Liverpool. This one game doesn't reflect a typical Bayern season.

But teams giving up and playing high lines is a blight on the league tbh. Has been for a while.

Depends...today he was on the left wing but he's also played in a more central role before. He gets a lot of freedom to do whatever he wants though.
 
Looks like Bellingham is starting ahead of Brandt. Same for the DFB cup last weekend, doesn't look good for Brandt.

Everyone can see this isn't a lack of talent. It's a lack of concentration and application against the ball that's hindering him and losing his safe starting spot can't hurt with that.

Hmm....

Puig and Dest would be two nice signings for Bayern this summer. Hope we're going to pursue the Spaniard who was told he is not in Koeman's plans.

It's an interesting debate. There is a school of thought that believes the success of Jürgen Klopp's "heavy metal" Gegenpressing style of play that has been the dominant playing style in the Bundesliga for the last couple of years is one of the major reasons for the shortcomings of German teams behind Bayern and Dortmund. It's simply extremely difficult to reach the heights of Jürgen Klopp's Dortmund between 2010 and 2013 whereas a lackluster application of the tactical approach led many team into medicority or disaster.

Yea, but it's also Reyna that's playing ahead of him for an attacking spot. Brandt honestly did not look very bad last season, maybe it's more to do with pre-season performances.
 
Stuttgart will have a tough season. 16 players under 22 and the youngest squad in the league.
 
It's going to be interesting to see how Hakimi leaving will affect Sancho. That guy was fecking rapid.
 
That counterattacking goal with Sancho-Haaland reminded me of the Ronaldo-Rooney partnership.

Haaland is a machine, the amount of energy he had late in the game to make that run from the edge of his box to the goal was incredible (and the speed he showed to get there as well).

Overall though, didn't think it was a great performances by Dortmund. Jude showed a lot of energy going up and down the pitch, more than Brandt, but he clearly lacked the quality on the ball to build from the back and that's what Dortmund were missing. The match was really scrappy in the middle because both teams did not have that playmaker to link things together.

Lets see where Favre goes from here, Jude certainly provides energy and defensive strength but offensive doesn't seem as good as Brandt (from one match).

I thought it was a bit scrappy, Reyna initial pass wasn't cleared properly and went straight to Jude. The third goal was brilliant though.

Well it all started with the PL didn't it. Massive worldwide marketing, give any scumbag investor free reign with their toys. You as supported paid the price with ridiculous pay per view rates and even more ridiculous ticket prices.

The only way to compete with this kind of Bollocks for non English clubs was to go big as well. Bayern, Barca, Real managed to do this with varying amount of trickery (Barca/Real), also going the sugar daddy road (PSG) Bayern managed to close the gap by insane amounts of luck and half decent management.
Congrats for cheering that kind of bullshittery.

The ball came from a defender, sure. I only talked about Bellingham's remarkable ball control afterwards and the finish.

I love the PL but this kind of attitude makes me want to slap some sense into you.

PL is the place where all idiocy in football started. Sure, in Italy they had the rich family sugar daddies, but half that stuff was illegal and would never be sustained. BPL is where the massive sugar daddy investments became mainstream. It's also the only reason PL is even worth watching, due to England producing pretty much no good players at all since a long time.

Hence PL is also where football culture got totally lost. Sure, boast about being the wealthiest league, but it goes at your own expense. Stadiums filled with rich business men, fans can't pay anymore. So sure, from your computer you can boast but the true fans filling stadiums in Germany won't read nor care about any of your brags.

Watching both Bellingham and Reyna start in addition to Sancho and Haaland has some surreal FM-like vibe and it will become even more crazy on the age factor, if then 16 year old Moukoko enters the fray in a couple of months. You truly love to see it.
It's a shame they probably won't be able to hold on to them for too long, otherwise they could have had their attack sorted for the next like 10 years.

It would be really nice to keep this team for at least 2 or 3 years. They could give us serious problems in the league and also be a dark horse contender in the CL. But I think they will lose Sancho next summer.

Exactly my thoughts.
Dortmund might have the most exceptional collection of teenagers (+ 20 year olds Sancho and Haaland) I've ever seen. What a team that would be in 4 years...
 
If Haaland keeps going like this, he simply has to be our successor for Lewandowski. Someone worthy of breaking our transfer record. And we obviously would have to, because that won't go down without serious knives out international competition.
For Sancho and Bellingham we probably needn't even try with the PL and United especially already calling dibs.

I think Haaland is as PL-bound as they come, I fear.
Maybe we should wait for this Moukoko-kid to come of age.

Would still prefer if they start the German Brandt, it's kind off sad to see a 17 year old English championship player starting over a 24 year old considered to be one of the best talented Germans.

Yea, everyone talking about how Germany shouldn't worry about youngsters coming through, there is plenty to worry about.

He's got a release clause (82 mil, if memory serves me correct) in his contract that activates in 2022. So it will come down to him getting to pick his next employer, so I really don't see it happening. City and Real could offer obscene wages and given his father's past I just can't see past the PL.
 
Btw, have Leipzig done anything to replace Werner? Haven't followed their transfer activities, if there was anything to follow.

Bit hyperbolic after the first match of the season. They wanted to throw him into cold water and it worked, doesn't mean he's gonna start over Brandt every week.

They signed Hee-Chan Hwang from their austrian sister club for 15 Mil. That's the only transfer that springs to mind. I'd be surprised if they don't announce a couple of cheapish youngster signings soon.

It's also the DFB Cup where Bellingham started. In pre-season as well, when they were playing 2 games a day with 2 different XI's, I noticed the teams with Brandt lost while Bellingham's XI usually won.

I think Bellingham is firmly the no.1 choice right now in CM for Favre. He might not have the technical quality of Brandt but certainly has more energy. Maybe that is what Favre wants in center midfield because it won't be too different from the Neusdater-Nordveit partnership at Gladbach, there he relied on the creativity of Arango, Reus and Hermann to create in attack while the central midfielders were more there as shields for their defence than being responsible to contribute in attack.
