German Football 20/21

Jesus fecking Christ Lewandowski hitting the post for the, I believe, third time today

At least Schalke manage to avoid another 0:4 meme festival. That has to count for something.

Actually, Rangnick aside (and even he appears to be working on a move elsewhere) he seems to be the only one who really wants it.
Yes, I am sure Hansi Flick, manager of the current CL winners, former DFB DoF, and World Cup winning Germany assistant manager, is only the frontrunner candidate for the job because noone else wants it ..

I mean Klopp and Nagelsmann already publicly turned the federation down. Being coach of die Mannschaft is not something the (German) top coaches are interested in until they approach retirement age. Which is why it would be such a divine gift for the DFB if Flick genuinely wants the post. Has there actually ever been one, who was a top level club coach before he took the job? Löw might be the only one who actually won a club trophy and even he was sort of washed up, when it was his turn.

From your lips to the ears of god, dear Sir.

The NT manager job is very, very prestigious in Germany, and there's been a lot of noise about it which has been wearing me thin, so thanks for these words like a warm cuddly blanket.
 - you're welcome. Glad to put you somewhat at ease! Anything can happen - and you and other fans of the Bundesliga clubs probably knows a lot more than I about the rumours and speculation... But logically, even if I were german, I'd never leave this Bayern-team for the NT.

On another note - mindblowing what's going on at Schalke. Will be relegated three years after they finished 2nd. What has happened? What will happen? Would loooove a Sunderland till I Die-esque documentary about the whole mess, though I think German clubs are too proud to show their incompetence close at hand as Sunderland did.

Breaking:

Lothar Matthäus just stated (seemingly seriously) that while he doesn't need the job to make his life complete he would listen if the DFB called him and fans were asking for his name.

Also Schalke have now achieved a goal difference of -50 after 25 games. Their average result a 2 goal loss. I thought that glory was reserved for local teams who just use football as an excuse for pounding half a crate of beer with their mates before kickoff.

Brandt starting.. Looks like Terzic doesn't take Hertha very serious.

This is absolutely astonishing news and I'm very excited to say the least! Ralf Rangnick in such an influential position at Schalke is basically a dream coming true. I was always a great fan and since his departure after his depression/burnout/mental health problems I was always hoping for an opportunity to get him back. This is a very interesting move and in my opinion a clear message to the fans, the players, the club itself and to the upcoming rivals: Schalke has definitely enough ambition to go all out to win the second division next year and not stay there for longer than one season. I was very skeptical regarding the next season since the club is such an insane mess, but getting Rangnick - imo one of the best football experts and allaround football business knowledge experts in the world - is making me really confident that there is a strong possibility to be part of the 1st Bundesliga in 22/23 again.
Plain awesome!
I admire you for being optimistic during these times
I think if it were me I’d just stay in bed all day watching old videos of the glory days of 2007 and nearly winning the league and actively avoiding all current football media.

The tweet reminds me why I could never be on a German language football message board. The constant use of this type of "man.." sentence construction just gets on my nerves so badly.

Yeah.. they should console themselves by re-watching how their team fecked up the title in Dortmund and to a lesser extend Bochum. You are a cruel, cruel person.

The situation at Bayern seems to be, that Flick does not really like working with their DoF Salihamidzic, and Flick basically got the job because Rummenigge wanted him. So he has won everything possible, but has not a good relation to his board. That is a situation where he really might think about it.

Schalke... don't ask, they are just the worst managed club in Germany.

I guess when you put it like that things actually look a bit worrying.

Thank god nobody is asking for his name. Or his opinion for that matter.

Turns out playing with 7.5 defenders is quite effective against Dortmund. A pity Bellingham didn't aim just a tiny bit higher.

Build-up has been brilliant at times. They should win.

Brandt not soiling himself is always a positive. Morey has also made a very positive development in recent weeks, he's very good in build up. But Dortmund's left side barely being a factor at all makes it hard to properly stretch Hertha's defense.

Morey with 92(!) touches in the first half surely that has to be (close to) a new record?

Wtf was that by the keeper? I’ve seen keepers drops clangers, by I don’t think I’ve seen that sort of blunder before. He completely missed the ball, which genuinely didn’t even move that much.

That shot was so bad it was confusing the keeper. Impossible to save.

That goal angered me. As someone who plays as a keeper, that goal was painful to watch. It's the sort of goal that I'd concede if I was not in the mood to play football. Then again, given how some of the Hertha players have played, maybe they also aren't in the mood.

That Dortmund goal really put a dent in Morey's very important touch record. It's also worth pointing out that if we ignore the Kickoff Haaland currently resides on one touch every 11 minutes, one of them from a set piece.

That's a Jarstein special. Used to concede similar goals regularly a decade ago which saw him dropped from the national team. Between 2016-19 he was a solid bundesliga GK but it's probably time to retire soon.

By now Jarstein more than made up for his mistake. That save on Bellingham was fantastic and this one on the corner was a very good reaction as well. Hertha should rather ask themselves why they are so timid, when Dortmund are fairly vulnerable at the moment.

How often, if ever, does Germany hire outside the country?

Germany had about 10 coaches and all of them were Germans. I don't think it's entirely impossible for a foreigner to get the job, but the first one would probably need a massive reputation.

Most tier 1 football nations hardly get a foreign coach

I can't recall Italy Spain Brazil France Holland actually England would be the only tier 2 and above country I know who has ever used a foreign coach
