MILTON, W.Va. (
WCHS/
WVAH) - Milton police said an order from Taco Bell apparently landed a mother in jail, after she was accused of hitting her child in the face because he ordered the wrong toppings on her burrito.
Police said Loretta Lynn Armstrong , 48, is charged with felony child abuse and three misdemeanors after an incident at the family's residence, police said. Cpl. Dean Bishop was the first officer at the scene.
"The mother was hitting her child in the face," Bishop said, describing what he first saw at 181 Mason Ave.
Bishop said he separated Armstrong from her youngest son and tried to put her in handcuffs. She then broke free and threw herself on the driveway.
"She screamed and cussed and yelled and claimed she was having a heart attack," Bishop said.
Emergency medical technicians were called and they confirmed Armstrong wasn't having a heart attack. Bishop and several other officers took her to jail.
"All in all, from the moment we arrested her, to the time we finished the arrest was about three hours," Bishop said. "During those three hours, she didn't settle down the whole time."
Armstrong's oldest son, Jesse, refused an on-camera interview, but came to his mother's defense. He said she is a churchgoing woman who wouldn't hurt a fly.
Bishop said she went too far.
"There's a difference between spanking your kid and punching your child in the face," Bishop said. "There's no sense in ever getting into an argument like that over a burrito -- just let it go."
Armstrong is currently being held at the Western Regional Jail on a $31,000 bond
