I don't know how this thread started, it reads like a stream of consciousness against Bill Maher.
Donald Trump's speeches are definitely stream of consciousness.
Donald Trump doesn't like Bill Maher.

I smell a conspiracy.

I agree that he is predictable but I agree with 80% of what he says and sometimes he is funny.

It started because we didn't want a bizarre discussion about Bill Maher to pollute our high quality election thread.

Yes, yes, back to the entirely predictable polling, pivoting, tired hypotheses, wrongheaded predictions, Trump infatuation, repetition of bloated punditry, intellectual jousting lite, cleaving to one´s own biased opinions and assurances . . . and of course, some rare, decent insight. Carry on, carry on . . .

Its called keeping threads on topic.

I'm just going to use this to post things don't merit a thread...but, might be interesting to some.

Bangladesh today executed the head of the Islamist Jamaat E Islami - for war crimes committed in 1971 during the Independence war. I am personally vested in this as it was this conflict that forced by parents to flee their homeland and head to the US and call that home. It's taken 40+ years to bring them to justice and it was carried about the despite very heavy lobbying from powerful entities.

At least a mil people were killed in a mere 9 months, not to mention around 200,000 women kept as sex slaves by the supposedly Pakistani muslim 'brothers'. Crimes Pakistan has yet to acknowledge let alone apologize.

If you're interested to get to know some more details about the horrors - http://www.genocidebangladesh.org/

No paedophile or rape jokes before anyone thinks of posting one. Should go without saying really but have to post it as I know what some are like.

A lot of emails, who are these people? :wenger:

Tomorrow she should wear something that could actually be considered revealing; if the nonsensical prudes can't take it, they can miss the weather and get pissed on.

As we say good bye to more and more of the best real estate and housing in our coolest cities and the rent becomes more and more impossible. I can´t help but think these are some of the causes of the Trump phenomenon.

Chinese Pour $110 billion into US Real Estate

. . . Geographically, Chinese buyers are concentrated in the most expensive markets: New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. Property in Chicago, Miami and Las Vegas is also popular.

That focus means they pay well above the average US home price: last year, Chinese buyers paid on average about $832,000 per home in the United States, compared with the average for all foreign purchases of $499,600 . . . (cont)

So, who's read about that new Filipino president? Jokes about raping nuns, want's to reinstate death penalty for murder, drug dealing and rape, and wants to give police the power for summary executions.

This could have it's own thread, but was not sure how create a google safe thread title for it.

Yup a penis transplant. Some one actually donated their John Henry upon their death to help this poor fellow out. I wonder in the future if you can use such surgery to upgrade in size (not that I need to :nervous:) or downgrade if you are too large (again not an issue I have to deal with).

Politicians, how not to handle getting caught viewing porn sites.

https://www.theguardian.com/technol...lain-porn-sites-screenshot-mike-webb-facebook

So the REPUBLICAN (no shock there) candidate for Congress posts a screen cap intending to support some weird post he is making. Unfortunately for him he neglected to close some of his other tabs first, so he gave everyone a view of what porn he likes. Instead of just taking down the image, saying oops or not saying anything at all, he reposts the image along with a 2000 word explanation of why he was on the porn sites.

The explanation is 2,000 words long. It does not make a huge amount of sense, but apparently blames the pornographic images on an experiment Webb was performing to see whether or not someone was using malware embedded on porn sites to infect electoral candidates with malware that would prevent them from filing their candidacy before the deadline.

Maybe. It’s honestly hard to parse. Webb writes, in part: “Curious by nature, I wanted to test the suggestion that somehow, lurking out in the pornographic world there is some evil operator waiting for the one in a gazillion chance that a candidate for federal office would go to that particular website and thereby be infected with a virus that would cause his or her FEC [federal election commission] data file to crash the FECfile application each time that it was loaded on the day of the filing deadline, as well as impact other critical campaign systems. Well, the Geek Squad techs testified to me, after servicing thousands of computers at the Baileys Crossroads location that they had never seen any computer using their signature virus protection for the time period to acquire over 4,800 viruses, 300 of which would require re-installation of the operating system.”

On the plus side, however, he wants supporters to know that “what does not kill you does make you stronger… Today, in just one day on Facebook, we grew in page likes by 25%”, he writes. So perhaps Layla and Ivone helped a man achieve his dream. We’ll find out in November.

The bloke who handed her the cardy is Chris Burrous. I've met him a few times and he's a massive cnut. My wife worked with him and she would tell me he was a sexist git. Nobody liked him and were glad when he fecked off to NYC. They fecked him off to LA where all the other cnuts go to be on telly.

The Battle of Jutland centenary commemorations were reported on various sites yesterday. I have a personal interest in this, as my dad's uncle died with thousands of others in this awful conflagration (on the HMS Indefatigable) and his name is on the war memorial in Plymouth.

I was reading about Jack Cornwell, a 16-year-old boy sailor who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for remaining at his post on HMS Chester (manning the guns) even after he was mortally wounded. It's a very moving story of incredible courage.

http://13wham.com/news/offbeat/milton-woman-charged-with-beating-son-over-burrito

MILTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) - Milton police said an order from Taco Bell apparently landed a mother in jail, after she was accused of hitting her child in the face because he ordered the wrong toppings on her burrito.

Police said Loretta Lynn Armstrong , 48, is charged with felony child abuse and three misdemeanors after an incident at the family's residence, police said. Cpl. Dean Bishop was the first officer at the scene.

"The mother was hitting her child in the face," Bishop said, describing what he first saw at 181 Mason Ave.

Bishop said he separated Armstrong from her youngest son and tried to put her in handcuffs. She then broke free and threw herself on the driveway.

"She screamed and cussed and yelled and claimed she was having a heart attack," Bishop said.

Emergency medical technicians were called and they confirmed Armstrong wasn't having a heart attack. Bishop and several other officers took her to jail.

"All in all, from the moment we arrested her, to the time we finished the arrest was about three hours," Bishop said. "During those three hours, she didn't settle down the whole time."

Armstrong's oldest son, Jesse, refused an on-camera interview, but came to his mother's defense. He said she is a churchgoing woman who wouldn't hurt a fly.

Bishop said she went too far.

"There's a difference between spanking your kid and punching your child in the face," Bishop said. "There's no sense in ever getting into an argument like that over a burrito -- just let it go."

Armstrong is currently being held at the Western Regional Jail on a $31,000 bond

'Apple has been awarded the right for a new system which could potentially stop people filming concerts with their iPhones.

The company’s invention would allow venues to use an infrared beam to disable photography on mobile phones, preventing people from taking videos and photos.

“An infrared emitter can be located in areas where picture or video capture is prohibited,” the awarded patent adds. “An electronic device can then receive the infrared signals, decode the data and temporarily disable the device’s recording function based on the command.”

When switched on, the patent says, the phone would simply display a “recording disabled” message when audience members attempt to take photographs or videos. Alternatively, a watermark or blur effect may be applied, to discourage people from sharing them.'

Obviously, phones at gigs are a pain, but it's easy to see how this one can used in a shittier way (protests etc). Not a fan of this.

How an Argentinian man learned his 'father' may have killed his real parents

(...)
According to human rights campaigners, 30,000 people were made to “disappear” by Argentina’s 1976-83 dictatorship, mostly young opponents of the bloody regime. Of these, between 200 and 300 were victims of the Riba intelligence unit where Guillermo played as a child.

But killing the pregnant women was a crime that even Argentina’s military men – who referred to themselves in self-aggrandising speeches as defenders of “western and Christian civilisation” – couldn’t bring themselves to commit.

Instead, they kept pregnant activists alive until they gave birth, murdering them afterwards and handing their babies to childless military couples to raise as their own. It was, in a macabre sense, the military’s ultimate victory against a despised enemy they had decided to annihilate completely. It is estimated some 500 children were born under these circumstances.

http://www.borderlandbeat.com/2016/07/more-than-66-thousand-dead-during-epn.html
During the 43 months of Enrique Peña Nieto’s administration, there have been 66,433 murders recognized by the federal government and the state prosecutors, and 2016 is aiming to be the most violent year so far of EPN’s presidential term. Intentional homicides increased 14% in comparison to 2015, which had been the most violent, in 2016, a murder is committed every 25 minutes.

According to the National Public Security System (SNSP), from January to June 2015, 8,979 murders were committed, while in the same period of 2016, 10,301 were committed, ie, 1,322 more than the previous year.

Mexico on average experiences 56 murders a day, representing a murder every 25 minutes.

Valery Spiridonov Set To Undergo The World´s First Head Transplant

The terminally ill man who is set to become the world's first head transplant recipient says more details about his extraordinary surgery will be revealed next month.

Valery Spiridonov, a computer scientist from Russia, is set to undergo the risky procedure next year.

Today, the 31-year-old is wheelchair reliant due to a muscle-wasting disease, announced his neurosurgeon would explain how the plan was progressing in September.

Mr Spiridonov says he is ready to put his trust in controversial surgeon Dr Sergio Canavero who claims he can cut off his head and attach it to a healthy body.

Neither the exact date or location have been chosen yet, but the world first procedure is aimed to take place in December 2017.

And speaking at a press conference, he said his Italian surgeon - dubbed Dr Frankenstein - will reveal more soon.

Mr Spiridonov said: ‘I continue the dialogue with Mr Canavero, we exchange information and as far as I know, he is preparing a portion of news this September.’

Severely handicapped, Mr Spiridonov received worldwide coverage when he volunteered as a guinea pig for the operation.

He suffers from Werdnig-Hoffman, also known as spinal muscular atrophy, which can result in problems moving, breathing and swallowing. (cont)
