Garnacho signs until 2028!

Great news!! What does this mean for Rashford? Both play same position and his deal is up next season. Can't see a pathway for Garnacho as long as Rashford is here, unless the latter moves to being a striker which isn't his best position.

C’mon now. Have you not seen the toll the schedule has taken? There’s enough games to go around. Man City’s relentless pace every season means you need 18 first team players especially if you’re competing on several fronts.

Garnacho is 18, Rashford is 25. In 2028, Rashford will be 30 and Garnacho 23. It's a perfect succession plan where players will need rotating, players are versatile among the attacking line, young players go up and down and will need to develop so it's a while until he's a clear starter anyway.

We need more than one player per position, as this season has painfully showed us. Plenty of games for both.

I get what you're saying. We're likely to give Rashford a huge contract, while at the same time having a very talented winger biting at his heels to get into the first team which can be good for the team.

The things that worry me are:
1) Surely we should be looking at players who are better than Rashford to improve the attack. I'm not entirely sold on the idea that Rashford with Garnacho off the bench is going to be enough for a league title or challenge for the UCL.
2) If Garnacho lives up to potential, how long before he kicks up a fuss about not starting over Rashford? Rashford is an experienced and well-paid member of the side. It would be very difficult to sideline him without disrupting the team dynamics in the dressing room.

The only reason why I'm thinking of this now is because the club is yet to renew Rashford's contract. His future is definitely a conversation worth having.

a huge red flag. ten hag trying to assert his dominance in public, i bet he’s a nasty piece of work behind the scenes. it’s effectively an abusive relationship and garnacho feels compelled to stay because he’s been made to feel he deserves this and can’t do any better. ten hag’s clearly been hurting him physically (his injury) and mentality (telling him he’s ugly and should get his teeth fixed.) ten hag also knew if he released him to the u20 world cup, garnacho would seek help and expose him.

Stockholm syndrome innit

1) You’ll struggle to find better attacking players than Rashford at the moment. I’d say with these two in form the left wing is the last position to be worried with.

2) He might kick up a fuss but why worry about that on the day he has shown he’s very happy to continue at United with Rashford being there too? There’s always injuries and we play about 60 a season. That’s 5400 minutes. Plenty of time for both.

Imagine whinging like this in a positive news thread. SadCafe.

Rashford is about to hit 30 goals this season and has been world class. The feck you want? He is absolutely good enough and questioning that is laughable tbh.

City have Grealish, Bernardo, Mahrez, Foden, Haaland and Alvarez for their front 3 positions. I think we can handle Rashford and Garnacho... It's honestly just the perfect situation for a club like United. To be able to always have the impact sub, rotation, cover for injuries, competition for starting spots or use them together.

It's also clearly a fake smile and you can see his other hand being halfway through the distress signal. Very concerning indeed.

Happy he's staying, but lets be honest, Glazers are doing this to save 60m+ on a new forward

We need him back playing games too.

Some of his sub cameos this season have been the difference between winning and losing. Such a shame we've missed him all this time as I think we're a much better team in the second half of games with a fresh Garnacho.

Wooooooooohoooooooooo! Great news! Been worrying about this for a while!

Excellent news. Lots of players at his age have talent but he's got the attitude too.

Do you think he's the quality of player we need to win a league title or UCL? I'm not trying to trash Rashford. I just want to know what direction this team is going in.

If he's not, we might as well sell the whole squad and start over. It's not his fault the rest of the team has been shit for years.

100%. Address the other positions that aren't performing up to par first. That would be:
  1. CF
  2. GK
  3. RB
  4. #8
  5. RW
The parts of our team that are working or performing up to the required level from a starting 11 perspective are LW, AM, DM, LB and CB x2. So it's half the starting 11 that needs to up their level before we start looking at any of the positions that are actually performing. That's ignoring depth which plays a massive part too. Obviously some like Antony have big potential, but let's not pretend like he's performed anywhere close to Rashfords level this season, and others like RB have been decent and we could probably get by anyway. But Rashford has basically been a 1 man goal threat all season.
