FERGIE CHASES GARETH BALE

Tottenham midfielder is key target for United

18/10/2008

SIR ALEX FERGUSON has targeted Gareth Bale to strengthen the left side of Manchester United’s defence.

The move is sure to spark another row with Spurs after the long battle over Dimitar Berbatov.

Despite injury since arriving at White Hart Lane from Southampton, Wales international Bale, 19, has been checked out by the Old Trafford scouts.

Bale was signed for £5million from Saints in a deal which could rise to £10m. In August he extended his Spurs deal by four years.

United may make their move in January, with realistic hopes of clinching a deal next summer.

Our next Tottenham target?

This story is as reliable as their story that SAF want's rid of Hargreaves.

I see no reason why we wont buy him, he is more winger than LB imo anyway so I think he could get games here if Ronaldo leaves

#1: evra went off injured today
#2: who's their backup LB
#1: ??? ... oshea came on
#2: hmm.. any young LB in the league we can link to united , what about that zuiverloon guy
#1: think he's a RB . what about bale ?

We don't need Bale. We have Fabio who will turn out to be a far, far better player. Usual media bollocks :)

Talking about Fabio, any idea when he's back from injury?

Bale my arse, we arn't going to go waste more money on a team that will play hardball for a player that we don't particularly need. Usual media bollocks, Evra does his hamstring and they start making shortlists worthy of a Football Manager muppet.

Bale would be valued at twice the price just because he is UK based.

We'll take him for pocket money when they're relegated.

It's not completely unlikely. Next season we could be without both Giggs due to retirement (although i doubt it) and Ronaldo if things don't go our way. I could see him being used as a winger also if we ever bought him. Thing is, Bale hasn't really impressed me yet at Spurs (granted he did miss nearly a whole season.)

Actually we do, not in defense but as a LW. Except giggs, our wingers are all right footed and Bale could be a good prospect. There aren't many LW on the market and we'll need one next summer.
Anyway that article is probably a load of shit as Evra got injured yesterday....

We have Nani for that role who is good with either foot and he's better there than Bale.

Never underestimate the usefulness of a left footed set piece taker.

Yes he plays for Spurs in midfield sometimes, yes he'd strengthen our options in defence and yes he could take over from Giggs.

Wouldn't be my first choice and we'd surely end up paying a silly fee, but it's not like Sir Alex has a problem with missing out on a player in the past and then paying shit loads more for them in a few years when they have developed further. See Berbatov.

plays with his hair too much - no thanks

Arsenal haven't had a decent left footed winger in ages and they've coped alright. Pires, Hleb and now Nasri have shown it's not that big a deal.

If we want a Britis left winger the only one to go for is Ashley Young.

Absolute rubbish! Again. We would have got him when if we REALLY wanted him. Evra first choice. At the moment O'Shea second choice. Third choice is Fabio Da Silva. If we really needed a fourth choice, Evans can play there. I think that's enough, really!

Like Berbatov?

Bale can play left back or left midfield and offers things we wont have in the squad at all when Giggs is gone.

Well..in a way you can say that Giggs is already gone from the left wing. He plays in the middle nowadays anyway..

Right, but he can still whip in a ball from the left or take set pieces with his left foot providing a cross. And Giggs being 'gone from the left wing' is the very reason why having a left footed winger come in might be appealing.

Gareth Bale's league games for Spurs

Played: 15
Won: 0

Gareth Bale is once again unhappy about losing Noddy, and about his face getting covered in tar.

Bale hasn't exactly been great for Spurs when he has played. I don't know if he has enough quality. I think Fabio should get his chance.

I'm not convinced. He has a great left foot, but so does Stuart Downing.

I don't think he's a very good left back and he's not the sort of winger we go for these days.

He'd cost a lot of money as well. I'd say no thanks. Stick with Fabio and Nani.

Looks like a monkey, dives to much.

That's enough, I don't want him.

Going buy the kids current development and his performances on the left wing for spurs I really hope SAF puts in a bid. The kids has a fantastic left foot, boundless energy, knows how to tackle/defend and would be a perfect foil for evra.

Lets not forget that this is a player in good form. 4 months ago this lad had never been on the winning team in a premier league game (after 25 games) He was in and out of the team and generally not living up to his potential. He should be left to prove that he can do it on a more consistent basis in my opinion over the course of next season.

May aswell just buy Jojo the Chimp from Chester Zoo:

Pros:
1. Cheap wages, just a few banana's a day.
2. Has lots of passion/anger/sexual deviancy
3. Hurls own feces at opposition players when the match isn't going our way
4. Hurls own feces at opposition players when the match is going our way
5. Hurls own feces at anyone in Jojo's vacinity
6. Can play anywhere, including the floodlights.

Cons:

1. Has lots of feces
2. Dreams of Madrid/Jungle
3. Chester Zoo aren't a selling zoo
4. Wears funny sized boots
5. Might climb the floodlights fall to death and never return.

Now compare Jojo to Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale Pros:

1. Hurls less feces than Jojo.
2. Chimp-like features without Chimp-like actions.

Gareth Bale Cons:

1. Being shit
2. More expensive than Jojo.
3. Gareth Bale

Fabio and Bale as a left sided combination could work quite well.
