It's not unthinkable, if Bale joins it makes way for Di Maria to leave and Arsenal appear as the most probable destination. Instead of doing this he could just ask Madrid to use Coentrao and Di Maria as makeweights as they'll need to replace Bale anyway and why not have Coentrao as well while they're at it. Anything between £40m and £50m plus Coentrao and Di Maria would be a brilliant deal for Spurs and I think they could get Madrid to offer that.

Just seen on Twatter that SSN is reporting Bale will not be returning to Spurs training after being promised he could join Real Madrid.

To be fair, you can see why he would've been slightly furious that a world record bid wasn't accepted sooner. Not that I have excessive amounts of sympathy for him, but most of us found it hard to believe a club was willing to go over £50m let alone £80m.
