Television Game of Thrones TV Series | Season 2 | NO book talk!!

One negative (on Sky Atlantic) was the dopey cow talking over the Rains of Castermere during the credits.

That was meant to be a really atmospheric thing where you could sit and listen to it whilst you digested what you'd just seen

What was the song at the very end of Episode 7, as we see the boys hanging? That was incredible.

I like LOTR, but there is far too much singing, poems and eating, half the time I felt I was reading the most retarded cookbook in history.

Did it have many recipes? I like the set up to the joke though.

Have you read Blood Meridian? It's like reading the world's most violent guide to the plants of Mexico in history.

It wasn't actually book talk but it was asking for people to compare the TV show and the books which would have lead to spoiler galore.

Sorry but not even a mention of anything TV related is allowed as per the new spoiler policy.

Makes far more sense to ask that question in the book thread, no?

Nothing can be spoiled for that lot and I'm sure they're watching the tv show too.

Finally all caught up. I'm not sure how many more seasons I can take of dragon lady and her people walking around; whining, waiting for dragons to grow.

Its a bit silly we haven't seen that fire woman ever since she gave birth to smokey. You'd think the fact that she controls a shadow monster would be useful when invading a city.

Also, why did one of the King's guard turn on Tyrion at the end?

I think it was mentioned that it would be best not to bring her as the men might start to think she's in charge.

Yeah I just thought that was quite sudden and forced. And it cost them a war.

Earlier, she was always by Stanis' side and had a big influence on him. Ever since she gave birth, she's disappeared. Don't suppose Stanis would like to know why she gave birth to a monster when she promised him a son...

I agree with this, unanswered questions.

I can understand why Stannis left her behind. Davos and the rest of them didn't like her and he'd have been confident of taking King's Landing himself given the huge advantage he had after taking Renly's men.

I hope we see her again in the next season, I'd like to know how she's able to do the magic stuff and what her relationship with Stannis really is (was she controlling him or in love with him)

No it's not. When Davos was questioning Stannis after he saw the shadow baby pop up, Stannis knew exactly what he was talking about. It's obvious that by then he knew exactly what Melisandre was planning with their 'baby'.

I sort of like the way some episodes are left with lots of questions too answer, gives alot of talking points and helps discussions about the show.

How many series are planned to be filmed?

It's HBO, so 7 seasons used to be their upper limit to a show but they've exceeded that recently and it doesn't seem as much as a hard and fast law that it has been in the past.

The critical and commercial success will help keep it on the air. The renewal order came in for the next season after 3 episode had been aired, they ordered season 3 after 1 episode of Season 2. Which is pretty unusual, the show should be safe for a while.

The bottom line is that we all want 20 episodes a year

Oh gods, yes.

But I'll take quality over quantity any day.

And what quality... I can't recall the last time my jaw literally dropped, and I was left gawping for a solid half minute... but bless me if THAT scene in the last episode didn't do just that to me... and everybody I know.

'kinell <3

I have, but all that is in the TV show.

Erm, except maybe her name.

Sigh.

What?

Christ, I won't answer any questions anymore then, even if I'm explicitly referring to scenes in the TV show.

Stannis' inner circle are concerned by her influence over him. That's why the Maester tried to poison her in the first or second episode of season 2, and ended up dying himself.

It's explained better in the books.

That's what I got from the tv series as well.

Spoiler: Speculation. Content: What Stannis knows about Smokey
Though it's possible I suppose that he doesn't actually know what Davos was talking about and is being deceived by Melisandre.

Yes please. Beats me how someone who's read the books can "speculate".

Weird seeing as I wasn't even thinking about the books, purely the TV show, I can't even remember back to the book it's so long side I read it. But never mind.

You have effin 79 posts in the book spoiler thread.

It's not just about people who have read the books spoiling it for others, its that they completely dictate the debate about characters actions, personality etc.

I can't come up with an opinion that says "Theon is a cnut I want him to die" and then someone else will say "nah he is just misunderstood and he'll repent eventually and become the best character in the show" (just a guess which im not spoilering because its a joke).

To me the scene where Stanis is talking to his first-mate or whatever, and his mate is saying "leave her behind". Davos (googled his name) obviously saw that ghost monster shooting out of her vagina but we don't know what Stanis knows. We don't know if Stanis knows that she is evil, we don't know if Stanis knows she is magic, we don't know is he knows she is pregnant, we just have hints. And the hints aren't explained. "Until a son is born." -Does he think she is pregnant with his son then? *no mention of it* that is weird.

All we know is that Davos convinced Stanis to leave her behind because of her having too much influence on him. That was the argument.

If you say that it was implied that Stannis knew, great that is a nod to you book read people. Be happy, take the nod, but us un-book-read do not know!

I've not read the books, the below is just my speculation in relation to the above point.

I think Stannis knows what she did because each time Davos wanted to discuss what he saw, Stannis didn't want to talk about it at all. Also, I think I recall him saying that they have to use the red-witch as you don't win wars with conventional methods (this was before the monster thing appeared). Also, he was present when the old guy died after taking the drink that was poisoned but she was completely unharmed so he must know there is something completely weird about her.

As I said before, I think Stannis left her behind because he was confident he good take King's Landing by himself and the army he obtained from Renly's death. He didn't expect Renly's lover to align with the Lannister's and for them to go to King's Landing to rescue cnut Joffrey.
