Game goes into administration

I quite liked GAME. Always good for some cheap as feck preowned games.

Wouldn't buy brand new there if you begged though. Another high street chain that will be missing by the seems of it then. My local shopping centre is getting empty pretty quickly.

It's not surprising really it just can't compete with online stores like amazon, play etc. I know they have over heads and the like to pay for but the games are so much dearer than than online. Even the pre owned are not much less that the online new. Example I bought donkey Kong island when it came out as a last minute present(it was too late to order online) and it cost me £45 for a Wii game.

Hm. I got a €40 gift card, should I buy something for it now or could I wait 'til they start selling out cheaper?

I prefer buying from stores just so I can play it the same day. feck waiting around for a delivery that either comes when you're out and you miss it, or you have to wait even longer to book it on a day off. I like to sleep in on my days off, not have some cnut hold his finger on my buzzer for 60 seconds at 8.50 in the morning when I want a lie in, for me to then leap out of bed without realising both my legs were still asleep and for me to collapse on the floor like a spastic like happened the last time.

I know a few people who work for Game, they're a shambles of a company really. Expanded the number of stores far too much at a time when the market was going towards online retail and then failed to downsize.

There's 2 within a 3 minute walk in my town centre, ridiculous.

Same, but there has been for over a decade. There was a gamestation in blockbuster, but I don't know if its still there.

I am tempted to walk into my local one know and ask when they are going to reduce the good stuff

Dinosaur company, much like HMV who never update their prices properly. They turned Gamestation that way too, the last couple of used games I tried to buy in GS I was given brand new copies of at the counter because they actually retailed for less, but didn't change the ticket prices on the shelves :wenger:

I'd be surprised if they let you spend it at all, tbh.

I know when my old company went in to administration, they stopped accepting gift cards/credit notes, full stop.

Coulda lost €40 tbh.

Try spending it asap, most retailers will not accept gift cards when they go into administration so you will be lucky to be able to use it at all

There's a Gamestation and a GAME like 3 shops apart in my town centre. 20 seconds walk, maximum.

No point at all

Someone update us in the this thread when they start fireselling the good stuff.

Yeah that would be a good idea. I remember when EB were bought and were reducing their stock, I picked up a brand new Atari Jaguar for £15. I could go for a cheap PS3 if they start slashing prices.

Can't stand GAME, souless shops with mostly clueless staff. Won't be missed.

I need PS3 controllers. Doubt they'll go for cheap before they are gone though

According to my mate who works in gamestation, the administrators are going to be closing all the gamestation shops to try and save Game

Check this lunacy

Yes, that is a Game store right next to Gamestation. I used to work there

I got a feeling they won't fire sale their shit, tbh.

Probs do a Peacocks and auction it off, or sell as bulk to other similar chains/suppliers etc etc

I got 8 games from gamestation the other day for 12 quid...one of them was FIFA 12...

... how the feck?

I went in there the other day, got some good priced preowned games. Like Homefront for a fiver, etc. But not FIFA 12 for £1.50?!

They can't have reduced any of the new stock to anywhere near that price yet.

No, FIFA 12 was about a Fiver...FIFA 11 was just under two quid :D feel sorry for them as I prefer gamestation to game

Yeah that sounds odd....because none of the deals websites/forums have said they've dropped new games that much/if at all really.

The odd console? Yea, but they were impossible to find, I went to like 15 stores. Pretty productive day that, a good cycle trek, like 10 games for £15.

I mean 11 and 10...not 12 lol

Oh haha. I was about to say!

Yeah, seen both 10 and 11 for quite cheap. FIFA 11 for £1.99 on PS3, not bad at all tbh.

I think I picked up:

Homefront
Fallout 3
Fallout new vegas
Resistance 2
Killzone 3
Unreal Tournament 3
Lost: The game

For about 23 quid. Bargain, i'd say

Brilliant deal, our gain from their loss...am going to have a browse tomorrow

Lost: The Game, wasn't worth the fiver I paid for it. Can't believe how much it was originally marked for.

They might be owned by the same organisation, but they way they are run and customer service is completely different...their only similarity is one guy gets both the profit

Probably depends on the area, my local two are practically clones of each other now. That said I only enter them these days in order to moan at the ridiculous prices they stick on things.

This is true, I very rarely buy from game as their pre owned stuff is too much

I got it for 1.99.

I remember when it first came out, I paid 30 quid for it in Woolworths I think it was. Completed it in a couple of days, then traded it in to Gamestation for £35. Quids in! Traded that and Motorstorm and got myself COD4. Best, swap, ever.

I tell you one thing I loved in one of the stores, I randomly bought two 49p games....Tiger Woods 07 and Virtua Tennis 09 just because I had a pound and they still sold hard for me to trade them back in when I was done.

The online world's kind of killed it. Nowadays, it seems a lot easier to just go online and buy one for a cheaper price instead of trudging into Game where most stuff seems expensive when you look at it.

It's a shame as I bought a lot of my games from it as a kid and it's the source of a lot of my gaming memories, but these things happen. Someone will take their place.
