Other than the 500 times over the last few years, yeah never!

I don't think there was a day last summer we weren't linked with him. He was photoshopped into a United shirt so many times his wife and children started speaking with a Mancunion accent.

They're desperate to sell him, he's desperate to come, but he's garbage so it will never ever ever ever happen. Ever. No matter how many "links" his Agent briefs the press with.

Did you not read the last page? He signed for Athletico today.

I've read this forum for years. Never quite understood why Gaitan was so underrated over here

Consistently one of the best (if not "the best") players in Benfica. He has more than deserved this move, wish him all the best

When a fit bird is desperate for you, it puts you off a bit regardless of how good looking she is. Same deal with Gaitan. The rumours always seemed to come from his camp consistently almost every window and I think it turned people off a bit. Can't deny his quality though.

Finally this madness ends, no more annual Gaitan links!

Watch him become a worldbeater at Atletico now btw.

Ok. Then the press is to blame... Gaitan never forced his way out, I don't even remember him mentioning Man Utd ever

Man Utd lacks quality on the flanks and has few technically gifted players. The way I see it, Gaitan would be one logic transfer. In fact, for 25 million € he would be a fine addition to most teams in the world

Watch him play like a god under Simeone and people wishing we signed him years ago..

Daily Star 14th June 2017: ''United in for Atletico's Gaitan: Manchester United are preparing to swoop for Atletico Madrid's Argentine winger Nicolas Gaitan. The former Benfica player is high on Manager Jose Mourinho's wanted list after impressing for Atletico in his debut season in La Liga. Sources close to the player confirm although he is happy in the spanish capital he would welcome a move to England to work under Mourinho. And finally join the club that has been trying unsuccessfully to sign him for the last seven years.''

Were people complaining about the Gaitan rumours because they don't rate him, or because they were fed up of the constant rumours turning out to be nonsense? I'm no expert on him, but if Atletico have bought him then he must be quite good. They don't tend to sign bad players.

Bingo.

They were blatant bullshit, yet they came every year. I think the club even had to release a statement one year saying there was no truth in the rumours at all.

One of the great transfer sagas has finally been put to rest. Gaitan is like that girl you rejected years ago that's now finally bagged herself an inferior guy, and is just spamming Facebook to "rub it in." I wouldn't be surprised if Ed's fax machine is spammed with selfies of Nico and his new badge.

Good luck Gaitan and farewell

It was probably his agent's doing.

2 CL finals = inferior. Lulz.

Inferior team? No
Inferior club? Yes, obviously
Inferior wage? You better believe it!

We're the guy that could get her, her own Lambo, now she's sharing a Corolla with her second choice;) (This is a joke that's very quickly ran it's course isn't it...)

Since 2012, I've hoped we'd sign him. He's actually very very good player, vastly underrated here. I reckon he'll flourish with Atletico.

We are the old guy that was extremely successful until not long ago where everything almost collapsed, but still have enough money to finance his Lambo. Atletico though, is a younger guy that reached the top of the corporate world twice in the last 3 years and even though he does not own a Lambo, is still driving a Porsche around.

So when's Atletico's first preseason game? The papers will probably start linking him to us the next day if he plays or comes off the bench.

Change to 14 July 2016 and you're probably be right.

Atletico really needed extra pace in their team. I reckon he'll do fine for them.

Don't bump up old transfer threads for no reason.
