Gaitan - the one that won't go away!

Surely if he was anywhere near as good as FM would have had us believe, he wouldn't have been playing for Benfica for 5 years.
 
Should make moves for Cavani, Schneider and Guarin while we're at it.
 
He's nowhere near good enough for us, if he comes to the PL teams like West Ham and Southampton would be more like his level.

From what I have seen I don't think so, I watched a lot of Benfica games earlier in the season when we were interested in Sanches and Gaitan didn't impress me. Jonas, Sanches, Lindelöf and Mitroglou all looked like much better players than him. I only watched them from mid February until a couple of weeks ago so he could of course only have been suffering from a bad spell of form but from what I saw in those 10-12 games he is nowhere good enough to be a starter for us or Atletico.

I never watched Payet or Mane play before they came to the PL so I wouldn't know.

Mane btw was 6 years younger than Gaitan is when he moved to Southampton so he had much more development ahead of him than Gaitan has.

you dont have to actually be as good individually as people think in a team like Atletico, because its more about the sum of the combined parts rather than relying on individual brilliance. Providing he has a good work ethic and helps the team he will do just fine at Atletico, but that doesnt mean he has the talent to make it at a team like Utd where we are still crying out for some world class players. Torres is the prime example for me, hes absolute trash as i saw in the champions league, but hes part of the team and works his balls off upfront which really is all Simeone asks.

Completely agree with this, Simeone could make almost any half descent player with a good work ethic look very good.

If Mourinho has Griezmann as his top target, it could happen. However, it seems that he is happy in Atletico. Also, there are rumors about James, so I guess James would be more realistic. But I think we will sign someone like Mane.

Gaitan is already 28 years old, so he will go in the best moment of his career to Atletico. It's a good move for Porto (money), Atletico (quality player) and Gaitan (chance to win something).
 
His move is bad for Correa, who I think is more talented. Or maybe it's just to stack the team before the transfer ban, if that still happens.

The appeal (according to fifa when they gave the ban) should be before the summer transfer window officially opens so that we don't get the summer spending spree like barca managed which effectively nullified the ban anyway.
If this happens they must be pretty certain the ban won't be in before they can register him

He didn't fit well in the team yet. He's been a sub through the entire season.

But I think he'll do it better in 2016-17. Him, Correa and Kranevitter shall have more minutes.
 
I think he prolly will be the only player in the world where even if he scores 20 and assists 20 next season the cafe would be like "yeah nope still dont want him here".
 
Were we ever linked with him?
