Gabriel Obertan

In all honesty he was pretty fecking gash lets not kid ourselves here, dwelt on the ball and gave away silly fouls but hey hes just a kid, good pass to Evra that led to the goal even if it took him seemingly a month of sundays to actually see Evra in half a pitch of space!

I thought he was just waiting until Evra had got deep into space down the wing myself, so Paddy would have plenty of time when he did receive the ball

basically he made the goal, Scholes just got his name on the scoresheet.

Obertan seems to be quite the impact player.

:wenger: Throw him in the deep end after he's played several months in the Reserves. Then let's judge him based on 10 minutes of play(none of which really went down the left wing through him) surrounded by massively shit football. That's a brilliant idea.

Oh pipe down, no ones 'judging him' on 10 minutes of football you cretin, i was merely commenting on his performnce in those 10 minutes, which was, pretty rank up until one pass....Giggs was wank all day, dosnt mean hes a wank player in general....bloody simpletons.

The timing of the pass was what created all the space for Evra.

Possibly yes, although the previous occasions where he had the ball and dwelt on it before losing posession lead me to lean torwards the idea he was slow to realise Evra was in such space....still looks a good prospect and for Fergie to throw him on in that situation shows he has something.

Either way, we won, i dont care!

He really bulked up, his biceps are huge  Veins were popping out and stuff :o

He played like the Oby at the start of the season. Nice movement and pass for the goal.

you think that is huge?!

he made an appearence, its good for him..

not really enough time to get into his stride

One or two moments where I thought he should have taken on the fullback but instead played the safe option (and got that horribly wrong one time). Good play in the build up to the goal.

Not really a lot we can learn from 10 minutes of play today. Very silly free kick but he was involved in the goal.

From the twitter of Daniel Taylor (Guardian football journalist):
DTguardian Some non World Cup news - #fulham have asked about Gabriel Obertan but he wants to stay at #mufc after end-of-season chat with Fergie

I saw Obertan tonight play in the USL1 league for Charlotte Independence. It's a couple of levels below MLS. The lad is like 35, he's a beast now.. head and shoulders the best player on the field. He made one and scored one.

(Edit) shouldn't have bumped a 27 year old thread to mention a player alien to 82% of the caf community.

Surprised to see this thread bumped.

I'll always associate him with that awful "no value in the market" line we used to constantly hear in the last few years of Fergie's reign. I'll never forget the summer of 2009 when we bought him, Owen and Valencia to *ahem* "replace" the departing Ronaldo and Tevez.

I'm pretty sure Obertan was one of the purchases Rooney was referring to when he threatened to leave in 2010 citing his belief that the club wouldn't be able to match his ambitions in terms of the calibre of players he believed United should be trying to sign.

None of this is Obertan's fault, of course. I'm glad to hear he's still playing and from what you've said it sounds like he's doing OK.

We had a moment when he was going off at HT. I called out to him and shouted United! And he gave me a big smile (I hope he didn't think I meant Newcastle United)

To be fair to him, when we bought him he was a highly rated and had come through PSG and the Clairefontaine national academy. He’d had a year at Bordeaux and I think a loan out somewhere so we obviously took a punt that we could mould his raw talent (or which he did have plenty).

Turns out, he was just another of those players that couldn’t make the step up to senior top flight football, just like 90% of most youth players.
