For all of yous who are salivating at the likes of Silva, Di Maria etc to replace Nani - i'd like to remind you that we've got a pretty good player who is likely to break through next year.

If Nani goes down, then Obertain steps in. If Valencia gets hurt then Nani steps into his role, with Obertan deputizing on the left.

That's a good goal but you have to take into consideration that it's a reserves game.

Reserve game or training ground, if you can hit the ball like that and it goes into the net, you have got something.
We can leave the post and field empty for you and let you try to see if you can replicate that. There is nothing to take into consideration here. Good goal.

Id play Robbie Brady ahead of him.................joke!!!

One goal like that as nice as it was means feck all, Mads Timm, Djordic weve seen it all before. Keep the cocks in for the moment...

I'm amazed that we haven't used him more this season.. Last season he played a part for Bordeaux when they won the French League and he was also used in the UCL.. All he needs is some(WOW TOTTENHAM!!) time in the gym and he's ready..

He's raw, but the skills are there. Needs a bit more yong and lernin time. Next year will be his chance to step up.

Undoubtedly a very talented player he has all the skills necessary to make it at United his pace is ridiculous at times and a cracking finish for the goal there.

Although he faces a lot of competition from Nani, Valencia and Park next season I think he'll be given a chance to prove himself in the first team again.

For all of you who haven't seen the video of the goal.....do watch it. (1.14 onwards).

Awesome goal but what he lacks is the ability to reproduce that quality at top level (at least this season).

I hope he proves me wrong! His climb to United is the stuff of movies.

In fairness he's hardly been given a chance at all so its a bit unfair to judge him on the few cameo appearances he's made with the first team

Hopefully his time in the reserves will have thought him more about the english style of play and he is more settled so I'm expecting him to get a lot more opportunities next season

The great goal was just an icing. Superb performance last night from Obertan.

 what, does the ball fly differently in reserve games when you leather it?

Obertan does seem to have the raw attributes to be a really good player, and in the last two games he's shown what he seemed to be lacking in his fleeting appearances for the first team - power and goalscoring.

I mention power not just because of his goal, but at times in his last few appearances he just seemed to bully the defence. He's never going to be one of the most muscular players, but he can use his body well - also alluding to his long strides and deceptive pace.

Poor old Foster. Every time I've watched him recently he makes some sort of basic error. Can't really blame the pressure at reserve level either. I really don't think he's got a future at the club.

His confidence is shot. He looks to be actually regressing.

His kicking is just not up to standard expected from a top class goalkeeper.

Can't really determine that he lacks that quality because he's only played in a few matches up to now and most of those have been as a substitute.

He's progressing nicely at the moment which is what he is here to do.

He's got a lot of potential. I like him and i'm sure in a year or two (with any luck) he will be doing good things

There seems to be this weird trend at the moment to be as anti-muppet as possible, meaning you oppose any and all transfers as being unrealistic and not needed, which is a bizzare line of thought as this season we're going to finish 2nd/3rd in the league and out of the Champions League at the Quarters. This is obviously well short of our aim of winning everything and so we need to improve, the most dramatic way to do this is generally to switch some personel, not to expect our current personel to perform far better, especially expected a player Sir Alex didn't see good enough even for a permanant bench role to know become the second max winner we sorely need to cover Rooney's absences or lack of form. So I don't see the need to bash people who want to see players like Silva and Di Maria (who are both blatantly much better players than Obertan is right now) join the club.

That's just plain bollocks though isn't it? Brilliant goals are scored across the divisions every week by loads of players who aren't even good enough for our reserves.

I think the guy has talent but hes a while off making the first team imo, since the Leeds game (and we know how bad that was) i think hes made 2-3 subs and hes looks really off the pace and frustrating on the ball. I think hes shown that he has good potential but i reckon it will be mid/late next season before we really start to see what he has to offer

My last memory of him is in that shocking appearance against Leeds in the FA cup. He looked so out of place that day it was embarrassing!
Would be great to see him come good. Lightening quick.

He scored a brilliant goal.

That's the main doubt I had about him at first. He looked non-threatening in front of goal for someone with such good footballing attributes. Hopefully he has been working hard to improve his weaknesses with the reserves. Next season he should get more opportunities to show us what he's capable of.

I think next season he'll be the regular wing deputy, I just wonder if Tosic will also be given a shot.

I would like Obertan to be given a reasonable chance next season rather than bring in a wide player. I think he could be a decent back-up for Nani and Valencia. Still plenty of work to do on his game but a few good performances against some of the weaker premiership sides could give him the confidence needed to perform against top opponents.

So I don't see the need to bash people who want to see players like Silva and Di Maria (who are both blatantly much better players than Obertan is right now) join the club.

Silva and Di Maria would be unlikely to be first choice for us (given Nani's recent form) so would have all the problems that come with sitting on the bench for long spells and getting the occasional start here and there. In terms of actual performances for United, I seriously doubt they'd outperform Obertan by a significant margin in their first season in english football.

His game against Wolfsburg was very good. Dont know why he didnt have too many chances. We have a huge squad and Fergie always use the same players, Nani and Park almoust everytime on the left if not Giggs.

After Wolfsburg, he started against Wolves and Leeds in the FA cup, looking totally clueless. Soon afterwards Nani transformed himself into a devastating player so Obertan's development had to take place on the training ground and at reserve team level.

IMO we cannot take the risk of relying on him again next season.

There is a lot of gap between the some players mentioned and Obertan.

Obertan might turn out good but its not guarunteed.

Silva is a much better player than Nani. He basically does everything Nani does only he's not as wasteful in possession and can pass the ball. Despite Nani's excellent form Silva would have to **** in England big time in order to be edged out of the team by Nani. Not to mention that A) Nani is right footed anyway so Silva could easilly replace Valencia and B) Silva actually plays in midfield for Valencia so he'd be replacing Anderson/Giggs in our 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation.

Di Maria has shown against Everton and Liverpool this season that even playing in a significantly worse side than ours he can compete and while he's a level below Silva he would still be pushing for a place in the team, especially as we can't play Nani and Valencia every game.

so would have all the problems that come with sitting on the bench for long spells and getting the occasional start here and there. In terms of actual performances for United, I seriously doubt they'd outperform Obertan by a significant margin in their first season in english football.

Do you actually even watch football? Seriously? I don't understand where you can come up with such bollocks. In the few games he played for us in the first team Obertan showed that he was reasonably quick, likes to pass the ball to Evra a lot and is capable of the odd very good moment like he showed at Wolfsburg. At the same time he was woeful in a few of his games and Sir Alex has since relegated him for the reserves, because he presumably doesn't think he's currently good enough and I agree with him.

David Silva on the other hand has played 149 games for a top club side in a top league. Has played 33 times for the World's best international side and has won a European Championship and he's rated high enough by Del Bosque and that racist chap before him to start ahead of Fabregas for Spain. You honestly think that a player who warrants a starting place for the Spanish national team wouldn't perform better than a player Sir Alex doesn't even consider good enough to feature for our first team? Muppetry at it's finest. Even the FM muppets have more sense than you.

Di Maria is also way ahead of him with seven Argentina caps (remind me again where on the pecking order Obertan is for France?) and has shown against top Premiership sides that he can do the business.

There's a damn good reason we bought Obertan for £3m from a worse side who didn't even want him and couldn't really understand exactly why we did and Di Maria is being quoted at £20m+. Maybe Obertan will turn out to be a good player but I doubt it personally and he's way below the level of either of those players, especially Silva.

I still think Obertan is a good player, he just looks too skinny as is too easily brushed off the ball. Still, from his few rare starts, the thing I like most about him was his short passing and not being to wasteful on the ball, would love to see him cross more though as he hasn't showed any crossing of late.
