Gabriel Obertan | 2009/10 Performances

That was the most baffling subsitution I've seen in years.

Oh really? Why because Park was doing very well was he not?

Now do not tell me you meant the Scholes for Berba sub cause then why bring it up in this thread??

Park did feck all IMO.. He is not that good offensively and everyone knows that.. We are a drawing and we need a win so it made perfect sense for SAF to send him on..

I will try not to be harsh. I have said before he is nowhere near ready (he isnt)

his 1st touch ...... someone comment on it for me

Park is a far, far better player than Obertan.

Park may not provide a telling cross or beat 2 or 3 men and whip a ball across goal but his off the ball movement and intricate short passing is a lot more effective than bambi on ice's run as quick and as awkwardly as possible towards the corner flag approach.

Fletcher was the only player trying, Berbatov gave up when he scored his goal, Obertan at least was in the play, Valencia was like Nani in the Milan game.

I'm not sure if it was nerves or what, but his first touch was deifnately a lot better last time I saw him play.

No, I didn't mean the Berbatov / Scholes subtitution - I meant this one. Obertan has shown he's not ready for this sort of game. I'd have taken Park off, but brought Owen on and shunted Rooney to the left.

He was thrown into the deep end. Everton on a good day are a tough team. At home, leading. He was always going to struggle. Personally I think he has a long way to go. Still very raw and looks nervy every time he comes on for a first team game.

A lot of players look mint in the reserves....but it's the reserves. Nothing Obertan has done in the first team convinces me that he's ready to play at this level. And oh. Comparing him to even a young Ronaldo.

:D

Please. The boy has a hard time running with the ball without falling over so those type of comparisons don't do him any favors.

Like Diouf this guy is a long shot to make it. I just don't think he's strong enough for the PL. He was cheap, so it was worth a gamble I guess.

Seriously getting pissed with people underrating the 'young' Ronaldo, he was an amazing player.. you could easily tell he was going to make it and that he was something special.

Extremely true. And loads of people say it too. They forget about loads of quality early performance (for Portugal too)

Very true. At least you could see the bags of potential the lad had, it was just maturity, teamspirit and physical attributes that he lacked as a young player.

Ronaldo was miles ahead of Obertan....fecking miles ahead when he arrived. Obertan is currently at a level of a 16-17 year old Ronaldo, when he was still playing for Sporting Lisbon. And even that is a stretch. At 18 he was making Neville and our back four look very ordinary.

How on earth someone can hype up Obertan this much on the basis of some reserve games is beyond me. Oba's raw as feck, and might make it. But don't kid yourself. this is a player that was suprised to be linked with Utd. His own coach was shocked we had made a move for him. Ronaldo was courted by every top team in europe. He was in the top 5 players of his age.

I give Obertan a 50% chance of making it. Lets put it this way. I remember Kieran Richardson at his age, and Obertan looks a shade better then him. On a good day.

Yeh, but even when he was very young Ronaldo was still a lovely player. Frustrating, sure, but clearly exeptionally talented.

Obertan is plain gash.

Like I said otherwise...
You guys need to read my post, I mentioned some negative aspects of Ronaldo's game in his younger games.I didn't say he was all about those negative aspects.
Some of you just jumped and made the conclusion.

Obertan will never be any where near the player of Ronaldo. I watched Ronaldo as a young player, younger than Obertan is now and I wouldnt even compare the two. I seriously think and I hope I am wrong that Obertan will stuggle here

His debut v Bolton, his games for Lisbon.. Euro 2004, he was no ordinary young talent.

The likes of Rooney, Messi, Ronaldo etc you could all see what the hype was about.

Inconsistency was the issue with these players, talent was not.

Bit hard on Obertan some of these comments, especially considering that he'd just played a full game for the reserves on Thursday night.
The delusions regarding the young talent level at the club needs to be put in check. The way some people gush on about the young players we have you'd think we have a team of world beaters in our reserves.

I'm not saying he's gash, but feck me...don't pretend he's even close to Ronaldo. It just makes you look stupid.

 I know we live in a world of free speech and opinion, but some people need their fingers cut off and their vocal cords snapped.

I find more humor in the fact that once he puts in a good shift, the same fecks will be back to praise the person, etc.

All in the life of Redcafe after a United defeat...

He was quite poor, I thought. But that's to be expected. He's a young winger who hasn't played all that much at this level, hasn't played in the first team in a while and played for the reserves midweek.

The time to judge him isn't on games like this where the team as a whole looked somewhat flat.

I can't understand why some people are feeling embarrassed, ashamed and all that because of someone's negative opinion of a United hopeful on an internet forum.

a bit pathetic imo
