Summarise it for me too. How are Dublin doing? They still in the football?

Dublin are playing Westmeath in the quarter final on Saturday with the winners playing Laois or Mayo in the semis. The full summary is at the end of the second page.

Cork beat Waterford by 1-16 to 1-15. They play the winners of Kilkenny and Clare who play next Sunday. The final is on the 3rd of September.

In the football last weekend(quater finals) Kerry beat Armagh by 3-15 to 1-13 and they now play Cork after Cork beat Donegal by 1-11 to 1-10. This weekend Dublin play Westmeath on Saturday and Mayo play Laois on Sunday in the remaining quarter finals with the winners playing each other. Cork play Kerry on the 20th and the second semi final is on the 27th. The final is on the 17th of September.

thanks a lot. another double for Cork :D

The hurling final has the makings of a cracker. It'll be harder if Kilkenny get there but its a good sign that Cork can beat Waterford with 3 of their forwards not scoring from play(including Deane and Ben O Connor) The footballers won't do it id say, Canty is out injured with a cruciate(picked up in the Munster final replay) and Masters is the only forward scoring a lot.

Big game in the hurling between Kilkenny and Clare. Would expect the Cats to win by a few points.
In the football Dublin should be too strong for Westmeath while i think Laois will narrowly beat Mayo.

Cork & Kilkenny in the All Ireland Hurling final - again.
c'mon the rebels!

sorry Ma (she's from Kilkenny).

Has the makings of a cracker although the last 3 finals (99-Cork winning by 0-13 to 0-12, 2003-Kilkenny winning by 1-14 to 1-11 and 2004-Cork winning by 0-17 to 0-9) between them were all surprisingly low scoring albeit in 1999 and 2004 there were wet conditions.

Really hard to pick a winner !..... where do you start ?

my Ma is making her excuses already. :smirk:
I fancy Cork because if nothing for else they know how to win. they beat Waterford despite the scare, so I think they can handle a DJless Cats team.

The midfield battle and the battle between Corks half backs and Kilkennys half forwards will be crucial. Shefflin has been outstanding this year but if theres anyone who can restrict his threat its the Cork half back line. Cork will probably need a big scoring performance from either Joe Deane or Ben O Connor in attack.

A Dublin Mayo semi final next week. Mayo brushed aside a lightweight Laois in the quarter final replay. Laois flattered to deceive in this championship with a crushing defeat at the hands of dublin but then a great win over Tyrone. Sad to see Micko leave on that note. Looks like mayo could test the dubs with a fairly robust back line but I see dublins fitness telling. Would love a Dubs kerry final.

we was robbed! ;)

btw who is the Spillane lad playing for Cork? any relation to the Kerry ones?

(ok, now you know I'm not up on the football. like the hurling though).

He isnt. Hes from Ballygarvan which is about 10-15 miles from Cork city. First year on the senior panel after winning a junior All Ireland medal last year.

JJ Delaney out for the final, he did his crutiate in training - a huge loss for Kilkenny and very unfortunate on one of the best hurlers in the country.

A big loss alright although i thought he was more effective when playing in the half back line.

you're in a nice position whereby you can relax and see who will join Kerry in the final :smirk:

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict an easy win for the Dubs, sure the westerners will have their moments but looking at how Dublin have destroyed all of their opponents to date ( bar their wobbly against Longford in the first game) I can't see a team from Connacht causing a major upset

I'm looking forward to a Dublin / Kerry final and some retribution for 84 and 85

sorry Nialler but I don't like the jackeens. never have, probably never will. so, with that said, I hope Dublin get stuffed in the semis :D

hey, I resemble that remark ;)

smartarse!

doubt that the cats can pull it off.
having said that, as I mentioned before, my Ma is from Kilkenny so even if they win I don't mind too much cos at least she'll be happy, My Da could care less, which is weird, and he's from Cork.

have Niall delete it.

if only, I'm right feckin sick

considered deleting my own earlier comments but what the feck, thats sport for ya, some of the Dublin players were believing the media hype which was my biggest fear and it proved their downfall, hell even I was starting to believe that this was their year and I'm a cagey cnut when it comes to predicting success for my county or indeed for Utd

Mayo were worthy winners today, I hope they give Kerry a good game in the final but hand on heart can only see one outcome

later

The Glory hunters that never seen the inside of Croker pre new Hogan Stand era are gone for another year, thank God!
Great match though and lets be honest about it, while inferior to hurling a good game of Gaelic Football wipes out anything soccer can offer.

The big one on Sunday, Cork v Kilkenny. Hopefully Cork to win and make it 3 in a row. It'll be very tough though and wouldnt surprise if it went to a replay. Delaney is a loss for Kilkenny. The last 3 finals between Cork and Kilkenny have been fairly low scoring and by the looks of things there could be a lot of rain on Sunday(the 99 and 2004 finals when Cork won there was rain as well) which will make it even more difficult for an open and entertaining game.

Very hard to call tomorrow's Hurling final, so I think I stick a tenner on a draw......I assume odds aprox 15/2 - 8/1 ish.

A great win for Mayo against the Dubs. I think Mayo's hour has come & Sam will head West.
I was in the fortunate position of being able to watch the game last Sunday in sunny Marbella (home in the f**kin rain now!). I was watchin in an Irish pub, there were some English people & Spaniards there, who never saw a GAA game before. Slowly, but surely they got more interested in the game as it progressed. At the end they were amazed & enthralled by it. They thought it was a fabulous game, in an amazing atmosphere & played in front of over 80,000 people. The English, who were aware of the game, c'ant under stand how it has'nt caught on internationally. .......... I must confess. I did'nt inform them either that all GAA games are not quite like the one the've just seen.
PS: The English were there to watch Chelsea live on the other TV, but ended up watching the GAA........changing times !

I told them to watch tomorrow's Hurling if the are able to, & they siad they will try.

Well, the dream of the treble is on hold...unyil 2009 :smirk:

Poor performance form Cork yesterday but IMO too many players playing because of their reputations and nothing else.

Let me say, though, well done to Cill Ceannaigh. They really wanted it and showed hunger and determination all over the pitch.

Congrats to Kilkenny. They did their homework and did really well on the day. Hopefully Cork to come back next year(no reason why they can't) although Corcoran will probably retire. Hoepfully Sherlock will come back into the team, he should have been brought on a lot sooner.

my brother went all the way up to Dublin to watch Cork get beat. twas his first All Irleand too, poor guy.
congrats to Klikenny. didn't see the game but my Ma says it was great to see Cork being hustled off the sliotar. at least she's happy.

edit: saw the game last night. great performance by the cats. Cork never looked like they had a hope. Kilkenny really should've beaten them by more than 3 pts.

If the McDonald injury scare stories are true, he'll be a huge loss.
How do you stop Donnehy at full forward? I suppose you can't realistically unless you have a player that is the same height but cutting out the supply from midfield and picking up the runners off him when he gets his hands on the ball is vital for Mayo.
Alternatively you just outscore Kerry the opposite end....it should be a great game!
Mayo by 2 points (& Roscommon to win minor)
