Fullbacks for the summer

I quite like this shout. I don't see Mourinho getting rid of Valencia (who's been one of the best right backs in the league)... and I think TFM needs to get a chance next season... but I'm still intrigued. I think we'll go for a left back though. Young can play either side, and I think he gets more stick than he deserves (same for Valencia about the stick).

RB - Valencia, TFM, Young
LB - World Class (left footed) LB, Shaw, Young - Mitchell to get another loan.
 
I don't think it is our weakest position tbh.
I would much rather see us bring in another top quality midfielder and switch to a 3 in the middle.

I actually think even for rest of this season if we persist with:

Herrera - Matic - Pogba

that herrera work rate will and desire will get him back into form and that will be good enough to secure top 4 and give us a very solid base in Europe.
 
Valencia and Young are just not good enough at the top top level. Both have flashes of brilliance. Valencia more than young but I really think we need a new starting 11 level player in both positions.
 
IMO Valencia, TFM, Young and Darmian can do a decent job as rightbacks. However, we need a world class LB. I really like Shaw, but for some reason, he is not playing. Also, Blind will be sold. So we need to improve that position.
 
People give our fullbacks a lot of shit about their attacking but look at the quality of delivery of Aurier and Davies today for Spuds and then tell me Valencia can't cross. Those two are so bang average and yet they're still regarded as amongst the best in the league...
 
A left footed left back would be good. Young’s more one footed than Valencia these days.
 
The fullbacks are a problem. Young and Valencia were very hesitant in their attacking play. We need fullbacks who can play under a press, under pressure, and can deliver in the final third.
 
To be honest i'm not sure why Young's starting over Shaw, but give me Tierney and Meunier in the summer, that's a pretty decent outlay, and I imagine not too expensive.
 
We need a proper right back who can challenge Valencia for the spot. Antonio has been an brilliant servant at the club but we cant expect him to play every match again next season, considering he is getting on in age. The distance he has covered must be second only to Evra in his prime.

Hopefully we buy someone who can put in a decent cross for Lukaku.
 
Absolutely gutted we didn't get Semedo when he was available. Would have been perfect.

Stop basing your opinion on stats, used from websites such as whoscored. Too many live in the "FIFA-world" where they think they can find good players only by using stats and looking at numbers.. It will work in baseball, not in football.
 
The amount of time our FBs spend dancing on the ball is ridiculous.
 
Let's go for Rose for LB.
Him and Shaw fighting for LB would be similar to Heinze and Evra competing.

Tarkowski and Mustafi are also in that team. Besides, I said players who can play out of a press and deliver under those conditions.

Now, while I agree Mustafi has been really bad for a couple of games now, there was a good long streak where Arsenal kept a clean sheet everytime he was on the pitch - I think 5 games in a row. He got injured and they started letting in goals. After the injury he has been truely terrible, so he will probably not make that squad and probably Otamendi should be there.

Fair enough with Tarkowski too - But they've kept so many clean sheets compared to the fact that they are Burnley. Pope should go to the World Cup over a lot of hyped goalkeepers in England if you ask me.

Arsenal away from home are terrible and Burnley defend so deep their defenders look better than they actually are. I don't have a problem with Young/Valencia when we are playing teams who sit deep. When we are deeper though, there is problems with playing against a press and transitioning from defence into attack.

Having a good season at Porto apparently. Can't say I've watched them enough and against Liverpool he looked like he was out of position on a few goals. Could have been the highlights though (didn't watch the game) and he was just getting back.
 
Do people honestly think PSG will part with Meunier, considering they need to sell other players and Dani Alves is turning 35?

If either of them could stay fit for more then 3-4 games at a time...
But no it wouldn't be anyway, neither are a patch on Evra

2nd this, he was a no brainier for me good player at a team we could do easy buisness with. There just doesn’t seem to be the quality of RB out there unless you’re taking someone from a non selling team or difficult team. Someone mentioned Odriozola a few months back and I haven’t seen much if any of him really.
LB well I think Shaw will have that place and probably should be starting over You g right now but Tiernay is the player we should bring in for them to fight it out.

Also hoping he’ll persuade McTomminay to declare for Scotland. Fergie already trying to get Jose on the case.
 
Odriozola is the complete package. In the offensive phase, at least. He's basically a very creative forward. Even when he doesn't ball, his movement is very deadly. Like Alba, but Alvaro is smarter.

Very fast, good at linking up with the forwards and puts a good cross in. Defensively he's agressive in one v one situations, I'd need to see more of him to make fair comment on him positionally as a defender but he did well against Barca in this regard.

Every FIFA 18 career mode I have started (LFC, Dortmund, AC Milan, Valencia) - Man Utd sign Odriozola in the first or second transfer window, without failure. Always amazes me.

Valencia and Young as defensive RB on other side.

I am not into bringing another young, inexperienced full back, no matter how good they are. Need to have enough experience and need to make instant impact, if we cannot find such candidate, rather wait and buy another season.
