Television From - TV Series | Season 3 airs September 22 - Episode 6 out now

This is my biggest issue. They'll introduce POAs/plotlines and then just completely give up on it. All of it just to show us some completely uninteresting plotlines centered around characters no one likes. Elgin, in this episode, was doing something useful and they gave him 3 minutes of screen time. Julie and Randall find something useful and suddenly, Randall decides he's going to be scared and leaves. I understand that they can't reveal all clues/plotlines but its gotten the ridiculous after a promising start to the season.
The last 2 episodes have been full on filler. Which in a 20+ episode season is great, but when you have 10 episodes and a huge overarching story with tonnes of unanswered questions, it just gets annoying.

Hopefully it'll build into something for the last 3 episodes.

They'll have another filler episode, then throw in some huge cliffhangers in the final episode. And we'll never hear about any of it next season. It's how they're operating now.

You generally find that the penultimate episode of any season of any show is usually the best of the series, as loads happens to allow them to finish the season and set up the next one.

Given their template for the past three episodes where they do absolutely nothing all episode before dropping a bomb at the end (which is never then explored), I'm not sure what to expect, tbh.

There was a list earlier on Reddit of outstanding mysteries that need an answer.

Yeah it’s winding me up now.

Seems to have just fallen into the classic mystery show trope of showing you soap opera level banal shite for 45 minutes with a random shocking or cliffhanger scene right at the end. Boring formula. Interesting shit is allowed to happen mid episode you know.

It had something in the first season or two and it’s losing whatever that was very rapidly.
Shit actors. But they're still there.

Nah 1st season was ok and watchable, and could definitely wet your appetite to keep you hooked, but already had some of the things that has made it unbearable now - generally weak to poor acting, aimless lack of progress and things being thrown at the wall with no real sense that it's being addressed. It's just compounded all of that over the past season and a half, with the lack of patience you could get for a show in its "infancy".

The funniest part is the writers saying it's less about the plot and more about the effects on the people, and the show absolutely not exhibiting such ambition in any kind of way.

Also if you want to go down this route you need characters and relationships that the audience feel something for. Lost did this perfectly so that despite multiple feck-ups and massive leaps with the storytelling, people still remember it very fondly.

Without the mystery aspect which characters actually make this worth it? In fact I'm going to make a tier list.

All 4 tolerables are on the brink of boring me.

Love it. I absolutely hate Donna though, I find her acting borderline insulting (pout, hands in pocket, arc back... and we're done) and I've never found the character particularly interesting. I agree Jade is by far the best character in it, but I also feel they're in danger of making him uninteresting in the very near future.

Donna?

it's an average to shyte show with horrible actors and those first 2 seasons are just about the max. you can get away with that. the longer it goes on, the more obvious those simple facts get.

I think the poor acting was pretty apparent from the get go. The plotting, well that could've gone different ways - they've chosen the "we really have no idea, we're throwing shit at walls, we'll forget we even wrote half of it, and we're somehow going to focus on the most mundane and uninteresting of things" which is a bold strategy Cotton.

Is it getting good ratings? Is it the kind of thing that will go on for a few more seasons and get worse and worse, or is it likely to be cancelled soon?

I don’t think it’s terrible, season 1 was great and this season started off really good.

It’s just being dragged out far too much and looking more and more likely we won’t get any answers.

I feel like if they aren’t going to give us answers, at least give us action. I don’t want to watch Fatima cry for two episodes tbh.

It's well received and it's also on Prime in other countries and doing well on there, so I reckon we'll get to see the story finished. There's a 5 series story according to the writers. Encouragingly though, they have already planned the ending and that it won't be "It was all a dream".

Another thing. Why not hire an actor to play the kimono woman? The CGI is like PS2 level.

Every episode is basically Fatima crying/doing gross shit, Ellis looking concerned right next to her, Victor refusing to explain shit and running away, Elgin being stalked by some awful CGI, Julie smoking weed, Boyd dealing with mad townsfolk and then usually a random person being aggro to everyone for whatever reason.

But, also,

Honestly I could make a 2 hour presentation about the issues in this show. I just remembered Ellis is Boyd's son. Like I know they're meant to have a fraught relationship but there's nothing there at all. They're like two random blokes.

Also none of the characters have any backstory which doesn't help us like any of them. Maybe they avoided it to not be so like Lost but some flashbacks in place of all the stupid town drama might've helped a bit if they really want to create a character story.

How dare you! Boyd sorta popped into Ellis's wedding. It was a powerful, moving moment, that lasted about 30 secondes before Boyd had to feck off do some unsignificant shit.

I genuinely don't mind the acting on that show, but then recently I've watched True Detective season 4 and that dreadful Nicole Kidman murder show on Netflix (name escapes me at the moment) - and the acting in both those shows makes From acting look Oscar worthy by comparison.

it probably depends on what you watched before it. I watched The Wire first, Justified after and after that finally finished Mad Men. my tolerance for bad actors and meaningless characters crying and behaving stupid was on all time low at that moment. I wasn't that annoyed during the first 2 seasons, but as soon as I started S3, it was like... no way.

It's worse than True Detective. I don't know how anyone watching this show can be unbothered by the acting, it stands out like a sore thumb - and it's not just a couple of actors, it's pretty much all of them!

The acting doesn’t overly bother me, it’s the mystery of it all that has me gripped. I just hope we get a couple of top notch episodes now to finish the series.

No chance. S4 of True Detective features some of the worst acting committed to television.

Followed by 30 exciting seconds at the end, before its never discussed again. Ever.

It made me laugh that the episode pretty much opened with Fatima crying

Also

Looks like they’ve introduced some sort of time travel now with the Julie storyline?

Another boring episode. It’s literally become the Fatima show.

Is this for Episode 8? I cannot take another Fatima centric episode. I just cannot.

Episode 8 yes. To be fair, it’s a better episode than recent weeks but far away from the quality the season started at.

And it’s becoming quite clear that the Fatima storyline is the main plot line of the season now. It’s been boring as shit, but I feel like it might be building to something good at least.

Also, there are some very small reveals in the episode, so definitely worth a watch.

Thanks for that. I'll definitely watch it but yes, I'm quite fed up of Fatima dominating this entire season. I hope its not another episode of nothing happening for 40 mins and then the cliffhanger which is the only real reveal.

Also I fecking hate that trope of a person hearing a noise and investigating as tense music slowly plays only for it to be a friendly. Every damn time. The basic rule now is if it builds up something scary it won’t be. And if everything seems to be going well expect it not to.

”ooh I can’t remember. I can’t remember. Here’s multiple episodes about a fecking ventriloquist dummy. I can’t remember. I don’t know where I was. Oh wait yeah shit I was here and I remember what this kid said verbatim nvm lol
