Froch Vs Groves 2

Very close fight thought it would go to 12 rounds and Groves was going to edge ahead, Groves just left himself open and Froch just caught him with a power house of a shot to KO him. Froch had a much better attitude with his approach today.

Maybe Froch can go and fight a world class fighter now. Maybe get schooled by Ward again. He's a tough fighter, but it's amazing what a bit of trash talk can do. Going into the first fight no one gave Groves a chance.

Thought it was a bit of karma for Groves. Paddy Fitzpatrick sending the BBFC letters saying he's concern for Froch's health, Groves and Fitzpatrick constantly saying that it's dangerous for Froch to fight, that it's medically not safe, that Froch may end up in hospital.

Then in then end Groves ends up with the oxygen tank at the end.

What an absolute thunderbolt from Froch!!

It was a close fight throughout but I thought Froch always looked comfortable and was just biding his time before the inevitable.

Yeah, school boy error from Groves, he was starting to swing whilst Froch was throwing a windmill. 1 punch, took him out. Actually thought it was Groves that had all the best shots until then. Carl was just about the jab really. Shame, as Groves was just starting to come good, he had those two rounds and it was looking good after being so cagey, but that's boxing.

Agree, it was Grove's performance as well as the controversy of the ref that made this Wembley 80k material. As it stood Groves was only 20 fights into his career but over those two fights more than tested Froch who has much more experience. Would love to see Froch get another spanking off Ward. He's good to watch but as Groves said for the first fight, Kessler beat him, Dirrell beat him in Nottingham in most peoples eyes, Groves was beating him and Ward already has. He's not as great as he makes out, certainly not in Calzaghes league.

Gutted that Groves didn't win. Thought it was a close fight. Reckon Groves could have gone onto win it had he not got knocked down. He looked like he was growing in to the fight more in the 7th round. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be.

Congrats, Froch.

The more i watch Froch - the more i think Joe Calzaghe would have systematically taken him apart.

What a bunch of poofs. I would have knocked both men out at the same time with a single jab.

I can't believe they managed to manifacture this into something that sold out Wembley.

If Froch had've been fighting anyone worthy of the occasion they'd have smacked him senseless with how open he was every time he tried to move forwards.

It was like he could afford to do it because he knew Groves wasn't good enough to hurt him.

Just convinced me all the more that the manifacturing for this fight began before the first one took place.

Was funny how the commentators were starting to say how confident Groves was starting to look, then I blinked and Groves was snogging the canvas with one leg stuck up his arse.

He should have bought the intensity from the start, which worked so well for him in the first fight.

Who would win between DeGale and Froch? Or DeGale vs Groves should Froch give up his belts? Any thoughts?

Groves has already beaten DeGale. Once in the amateurs and again in the pros.

Except that Froch has beaten every single person he's ever faced at Super Middleweight, barring Andre Ward who is considered by most to be #2 on the current p4p rankings behind only Floyd Mayweather, who will comfortably go down as one of the best boxers to ever lace up his gloves. Not only that, but as far as I know, Groves is the only person who has knocked Froch down in HIS ENTIRE CAREER* (and he has faced more or less every one of the world's top 10 SMWs baring DeGale) , so it's not as if Groves is a punchless chancer.

Froch is a genuinely world class boxer and anyone who claims different should honestly just go and watch MMA or WWE or something. Yes his style is ugly and awkward, no he won't ever win any prizes for his ability, but it's a fight, and if you can knock your opponent out every time it really doesn't matter how well you jab and move. Froch has always been from the Homer Simpson school of boxing, but hey, it works for him and it doesn't make him any less good.

* Apologies, I had forgotten that Jermaine Taylor had also knocked down Froch when Froch then KO'd him in the last seconds of the 12th

There's no point considering the amateurs - it's basically a different sport - and for my money DeGale won the pro fight between them. I think DeGale is the better boxer in all honesty and I'm a big fan of his, except when he does that stupid thing and sits on the ropes letting his opponent hit him at will.

Disagree that they had this planned from the beginning, I think you have got to hand it to Groves for getting this one put together. Groves was meant to be a mark along the way for Froch before he got the Andre Ward rematch or a fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Groves surprised everyone with his performance in the first fight and used that as a springboard to get a really big fight: Wembley stadium, sold out, PPV buys...As a marketing exercise the guy played a blinder, got a hype machine going and ended up with a bigger fight than he could have possibly imagined only 12 months ago.

The fight was by no means a classic but it was, at least, entertaining. Groves' game plan was quite clear, start slow and build up a head of stream so not to run out of gas in the late rounds when Froch comes strong. Froch, likewise, had a very simple game plan: Try to achieve ring control with the jab and try to unsettle Groves in the clinch. It was like a possession team trying to beat a counter attacking team and made for an interesting fight, especially when the mistakes started. Froch won, deservedly, in the end. Groves didn't execute and got executed. Didn't mind passing the time in the pub while watching.

I don't think Froch will fight DeGale. Think he will vacate the belt and pick a bigger more lucrative fight. Would like to see DeGale Vs Groves again though. DeGale was robbed of that win and deserves a rematch.

Slightly confused by what you mean by this.

Not really complicated. Anyone who thinks Froch is not world class is wasting their time watching boxing because they've not got the slightest clue what is happening.

Ahh, so this is a "my view is more important than yours and anyone that disagrees with me is wrong" thing?

Froch is an excellent fighter, but there's no need for that high and mighty bollocks, and dragging other things that you might not be a fan of just makes you look like a right dick.

Jermaine Taylor dropped Froch.
That was more a flash knock down, he was never really hurt from it. Now Groves is really the only the fighter to drop Froch and really hurt him IMO.

Do you honestly believe that Froch isn't a world class fighter?

Well yes and no. My view isn't more important than anyone else's, but anyone that disagrees that Froch is world class is just wrong. It's like me trying to tell you that the sky is green; it's just not in any way shape or form true by any measure that you care to use. And I really don't get your other point. What did I drag into it

He was clearly hurt from it. Watch it again.

It was the punch before that hurt him, I'll give you that. But the knock down he got back up and was fine. He did the pressing after the knock down and never looked in any real danger.

Well no, not at all.

Different people may have different views on what constitutes world class, you think he is world class, good for you, I don't, I'm not wrong just as you're not, it's a difference of definition. It's in no way akin to saying that the sky is green, that's a ludicrous analogy.

Oh, and you definitely dragged MMA and wrestling into it, that's the bit that I fecking highlighted for Christs sake.

Nah, he's on Queer St for the remainder of the round. 13.16.

I'm not sure how anyone could say Froch isn't a world class fighter. It isn't up for debate IMO, and if people are holding the Ward fight against him, then surely that makes no one world class in that division? Who is at Ward's standard?

Kessler gave Joe a torrid time when they fought and Joe was constantly singing his praises after their fight. Froch had two great fights against Kessler, one which was very close and the other he bossed. Froch is a world class fighter, there is nothing to say otherwise.

He clearly stumbles into the ropes soon after. He also took an 8 count. If he was fine he would have gotten straight back up. He admits himself that he was hurt.

Well no, he's beaten every top 10 rated SMW out there barring Andre Ward who is considered the #2 p4p, and barring James DeGale who he hasn't fought and who lost to Groves as I said earlier. I don't know what definitions of world class there are which wouldn't include Froch? It's just a fact. It really is. I don't care how you measure it, it's just plain and simple a fact.

And no, all I said was that someone who doesn't think Froch is world class should get their fill of combat sports elsewhere, as boxing clearly isn't for them. I just happened to throw out 2 other sports that came to mind but I didn't drag them into anything

After the knock down he was fine. That is evident how he finished the round. That knock down was no way near the same level as the Groves knock down.

I didn't say it was. I said he was clearly hurt. Which he was.

We're going to have to agree to disagree, I think.

Aye, my assessment of it being a flash knock down was some way off tbf. That was probably because I remember him finishing the round strong and not looking in bad shape, that I'd got it in my head it wasn't much of a knock down. Oh well.

I look at it this way, you may say he's the world class because he's amongst the best in the world at the moment, whereas I personally see that as a a bit of a lull in the quality in the division. Just look early on in this thread and the talk about how a Froch vs Calzaghe fight would go, Calzaghe was a genuine world class boxer and wouldn't have too much of a problem against Carl.

If you're gonna call Froch world class then the bar is set far too low IMO. That's the point.

Well there was no need to even bring them up, there was no need for the comment in general really.

Let's not even get started on Calzaghe. I think he would have beaten Froch in a fight, but then again I don't think he would ever have had the balls to fight him. That's why Froch clearly is world class and why there's a HUGE asterisk alongside Calzaghe's name.

I agree with that statement indeed.

I don't. He fought a younger, undefeated Kessler. He went to the US to fight Hopkins. He fought Lacy when people thought he was going to get killed.

And let's not forget, Froch was offered a Calzaghe fight and turned it down.
