Neither does Carrick. Even further from it.

Carrick only really has longevity on Essien. Essien didn’t do it as long but his peak was way higher than Carricks.Nope.
Exactly…Apparently he was but I’d suggest only on a United forum. Nowhere else would a claim that he was a good player but not great be seen as outlandish. That’s a ridiculous statement. Carrick wasn’t one of the best midfielders of his generation at all. He was Michael Carrick.
Im not sure to be honest. It may be Frenkie has said hed only move if hes seriously pushed out, but then we have to consider where his mental state would be when he moves. But surely with all the reports of De Jong rejecting us, ETH would've double checked by now, no?
He’s not still a Barcelona player because they refuse to sell him though. He is because he hasn’t agreed to leave. They will pay him 3 weeks wages whether he is in America or left in Spain. While he is still contracted, I don’t see why he cannot train with the team.
Pretty sure that we agreed to a higher guaranteed fee, but there was no stipulation that they had to use it to pay de Jongs wages?I disagree, apparently we have restructured our deal with Barca with a higher guaranteed fee, in order that THEY can facilitate De Jong's exit in relationto the wage situation. They have made it clear his exit is necessary but he is still clinging on. This is not about deferred wages - he doesn't want the move full stop.
I’m taking Carrick over Essien whatever day of the week it is.Carrick only really has longevity on Essien. Essien didn’t do it as long but his peak was way higher than Carricks.
Essien was quality but he wasn't better than Carrick.
Can't say i agree with this, as if we were being used as a "Just in case" scenario, then i'm pretty sure we'd just say no thanks and look elsewhere. For us to stay, and for ten Hag to push so hard for the player, there is definitely assurances there, and there is something more going on. Maybe the whole "if he leaves, he forfeits his pay and backpay" clause in his contract does exist? Maybe he's got loyalty bonuses that he'd lose if he said he wanted to leave. Maybe he wants assurances from Barca that he's going to get all the money owed to him before he leaves?Im not sure to be honest. It may be Frenkie has said hed only move if hes seriously pushed out, but then we have to consider where his mental state would be when he moves.
Im all for pursuing players even if we may not be an ideal choice for them, but this sounds like he's forced against his will.
My hope is this is just the player wanting assurances on the money hes owed from Barca before leaving. But at this stage who knows.
Again thats not going to happen. His wage is that high that they need to lower it by over 50% so i've read, and it's not legally possible to do that.I think this will end with FdJ accepting a lower salary but not much. Maybe 85% of original salary with an extension of one more year to make up for the loss.
- Barca gets to show FfP that they’re lowering existing players contracts
- FdJ gets to stay at his dream club and live in his new home.
- Xavi keeps his player
- Redcafe fans will have wasted 1000 pages of posts.
The game, and the position of winger has evolved. By todays standards Beckham and Giggs really aren't wingers, because the modern winger is basically a striker, or at least playing level with them, and playing a more inside and the fullbacks are the ones hugging the touchline. Beckham and Giggs were RM and LM, but they played on the wings, hugging the touchline and providing service. They were definitely more wingers than midfielders, but if you plunked them into the modern game, I don't know where they would play or what you would call them, but probably not wingers. You’re struggling like mad when you’re telling me David Beckham was not a midfielder
feck it, we’ve got savage and zidane nowI think this will end with FdJ accepting a lower salary but not much. Maybe 85% of original salary with an extension of one more year to make up for the loss.

The original spacegoat, yeahCarrick used to get shit on here if I recall right
Living off credit. How the feck are Barca buying all these players? They've gone full muppet this window.
I think hes been given encouragement but the extent to which is no more than guesstimation by anyone
We played 442 under SAF mainly from 1993 to around 2004. Can you name the four midfielders?
Sure, but then why add him to the tour? Im confused at what Barca are playing at if hes being pushed out and he wants to come, but wants his money. What sort of move is including him on the tour?Honestly, at this point in the saga, if the manager hasn't been given pretty strong encouragement he should have pulled the plug by now, and if that is the case it reflects pretty poorly on him... Granted de Jong and his agent could be stringing ten Hag along, but that seems to work counter to him being dead set on staying no matter what. If he doesn't want to be forced out then telling United to piss off would end Barcelona's chance of selling to us.

I never want to see another post in this thread calling us the incompetent ones in this transfer. Barcelona are a clown show.
I saw the rumor. Same question pertains for me. You could even move the numbers down to say median income.
$55k per year. Asked to take $30k per year to help the company thru covid but to be paid in full in a year or two.
Company then says they need to let you go to make ends meet. They refuse to pay you the $30k owed and hire a couple new employees for a different team.
If a new job offer comes in and you're able to recoup $15k do you leave the rest of it on the table or do you dig your heels in.
Whether it's millions of dollars of tens of thousands there is absolutely no place to let that money go.
FDJ has to be paid in full.
When they can't even agree between themselves what the hell is going on, what chance do any of the players and the coach. They are an absolute shite show of club. Kick the can down the road, deal with it at a later date and just pull another few levers.
Mes que un joke
So after Arnold and Murtaugh leaves Barca, they go off and sign Raphinha, Lewandowski, extend dembele, get close to Lounge and have a pre agreement with Bernardo Silva? Either they just got a creative accounting lesson or they know they're getting a large sum in (not just the levers as that doesn't account for what they can register).
For once in his life, speaking the truth
The 'redcafe' irony of leaving the club. The original spacegoat, yeah

A different opinion to this guy (still one of the worst posts (or wums) I’ve seen on the Caf)…Carrick was the system. You watch the game, you don’t see Carrick. You watch Carrick, you see the whole game. Only true tactical savants with real knowledge of the intricacies of the game will realise he was an all time great midfielder who rivals Busquets and Redondo.
2 Things....
1st adding to what you are saying, these stats were achieved playing for a dominant Ajax in a relatively weak league (strength in depth) and Barcelona a dominant team in a relatively weak league (strength in depth).....
2nd thing Carrick should not be used as an example of a midfielder to aspire to.... he was bang average and way over hyped on here, the guy was on his way out of the club his performances were so poor until we had a defensive crisis and he had to step in as a CB, admittedly after that reprieve his performances stabilised but still he was, meh at best, he was just slightly better than other bang average midefielders we had at the time, he was fortunate to play in front of a great defence otherwise he would have been exposed more, the worst sideways and backpass merchant I have ever seen play for us, and gave numerous goals away passing to attackers outside our own box,
Why aren’t they doing everything necessary to pay him what’s owed, it does nobody any good the longer this drags on. If it’s not the money and FdJ generally doesn’t want to come then we should have left this deal weeks ago.
He just wants his money.
There hasn't been any credible source saying Ten Hag has spoken to him regularly has there?
Bank transfer probably. Can't see how on earth he gets it
I think he will go on tour. Too much bad press to leave him out
