I really don’t get City selling Silva. Sterling seems to be on a downward trajectory so I got that one - but this one makes no sense to me.
Especially considering they’ve not been linked with any replacements. Suppose this is where they can now argue and say we made so much which is the reason why we spent so much on players. There not like us or Liverpool who have made loads through sales over the years.

He wants Barca, they are happy to sell a player that wants to leave. There are not that many that want to go, mostly squad players that want more minutes.

The question is more why the feck does Bernardo want to move to Barca currently.

Even with selling de Jong, aren't Barca still going to be fecked? None of these new signings will be coming on a cheap wage and some won't even have resale value.
They're fecked regardless, activating all these 'levers' by selling their rights will be majorly detrimental in the long run so they're essentially mortgaging their financial future for short term fan appeasement.

They'll be completely fecked in a few years but at least they'll have a sexy squad to maybe win a trophy or 2 before then seems to be the thinking

Those economic levers do bring in a hefty and tide sum of $$. But it makes the Glazer's LBO business model seem almost reasonable.
They're trying to pull a very long shot, they need to be better than they've been in years for it to succeed.
Madrid have a very diverse side in Laliga and in Europe its a throw of the dice between the English sides, Bayern, Madrid as well.

They have a narrow financial bandwidth to operate within going forward. But their financial floor will be pretty high considering that CL money every year is pretty much guaranteed for them.

Repeats what Ducker and Hirst said but mentions Ruben Neves as the contingency plan if FDJ doesn't come

This might have been discussed on here already, but I wonder what the "deferred wages" actually means. I see two alternatives:
1. He signed a contract extension with deferred payment of wages, i.e. the wages are accrued but not paid
2. He signed a contract extension with deferred wages, i.e. he agreed to earn less early in the contract in exchange for earning more towards the end

In scenario (1.) he would have a strong case for claiming unpaid wages from Barca, but in scenario (2.) he would actually forgo wages by moving and have limited legal recourse.
Could explain why this is dragging so much and why Barca feel they are within their rights to offer a paltry £3.5m instead of the full £17m as has been reported.

Anyone seen any reports on this?

I agree with most of what you say, however if the financial reason is FDJ posturing/holding his ground until Barca pay him his deferred wages. Then I have no issue.

No I think FDJs is a fairly unique case due to Barcelona's situation. I have no issue with him wanting to be paid what he is owed, even if it's just out of principle.

I'm really talking about players who move about *just* for bigger salaries and/or signing bonuses. I think it rarely ends-up working out

Could we bring in more of we sign FDJ? Think all the budget will be used after this and Lisandro.

Yeah that’s what I find interesting - they’ve been linked with nobody. Nunes at sporting maybe the replacement? Ruiz at Napoli possibly.
Ruiz looks like a pep player. Can’t see them selling Bernardo without a replacement lined up though.

So many reports about him not wanting to leave Barca, he must love them.

If he loved Barca he would leave. No, he's a greedy greedy foreigner and wants to suck the mes que club dry. We have paid him so much during the pandemic. Now is the time for him to compromise and give up the €17 million that's contractually obligated. He is a selfish scrooge. Because of him now two or three new Barca players are unable to be registered.

Again, let me reiterate, Frenkie de Jong and his agent want to destroy our beloved Barcelona from within. If he truly loved us he would leave to smashchester

I find it shocking that a fee would be agreed even when it’s clear as day the player in question is reluctant to move clubs. Just think of the wasted resources and man hours by both clubs and agents required to finalise a fee for absolute no real reason. What a comedy act this is turning out to be

Thing is if a club doesn't want to sell, they would just knock you back without agreeing a fee.

Depends who you believe. The player himself has not said a word.

I'm only guessing here, but I think United caved on this one and decided to cover a portion (or all) of FDJ's deferred wages. According to reports, the original fee was £56 million before the deferred wages stuff was made public, wind on 2-3 weeks and the seling fee rose to £75 + 10 million in addons, which covers the £17 M owed to FDJ and change.

I'm only guessing, as I said, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was is the case given how desperate we are for midfield quality and ETH making it clear he wanted FDJ above all else.

Yep, slightly more up front so they can find wiggle room to pay him off and then he can leave.

Still not fully convinced myself about the transfer. He's a great player but I'll be interested to see how focused he is after such strong statements about wanting to stay put in Spain.

I find it shocking you don’t understand what is happening here.

That's the big worry. Signing players that rather stay at their current club smells Woodward and our businesses during 2013 until now.

Why is it that people choose to believe when some people say he doesn’t want to leave but refuse to people others who say he is willing to move?
