Having lived in Munich before and been to Manchester a few times, I beg to disagree.
Didn't FDJ already said he isn't interested to move to England because of the weather?
Aside from the weather you have the Alps only a couple of hours away from Munich. The beer gardens as well as one of highest living quality inn the whole of Germany.

Do you think Bayern would make a move for him? Could you see Bayern paying the ball park expected fees/wages for him?

I feel like people here have the wrong impression of the kind of player De Jong is.

He's not a passer like Thiago.

He's basically like Jorginho with his passing, in that he's very secure, has a nice disguised pass through the lines (at times), and can be inventive, but doesn't have much of a throughball nor a long ball.
He has brilliant awareness of everyone around him, but not necessarily the technique for anything truly incisive or creative.

What he has over Jorginho (massively) though is his athleticism, in that he's very quick and can keep running and put a lot of energy into a game.

He's great at making defensive recoveries, particularly tracking runners from the midfield when playing a high line.

His greatest attribute is his dribbling, both when put under pressure and with runs from deep into the midfield, passing by a player or two to create a numerical advantage further up the pitch.

He has a nice sliding tackle (technically), and he can run a lot and press well, but he's not someone who you can trust to hold position and defend a particular space.
Good Post.

I do think he was a bit more adventurous and creative in his game at Ajax, maybe at Barca his coaches have told him to focus on ball retention, perhaps you'd know better as an Ajax fan ?

Nagelsmann want a defensive midfielder who is a "pressing machine". Lewandowski want to join Barca. So I can see a swap deal plus money could be agreed on.
Lewandowski leaving frees 24 million Euro on wages. FDJ would earn in the same bracket as Kimmich and Goretzka. Thus the money is there.
Of course it depends whether Bayern let Lewandowski go this summer.
If Lewandowski leaves and FDJ joins, then Nkunku could join for the wings while Gnabry get his chance on his preferred central forward position.

Sounds like a more mobile version of Pogba, which isn't the worst thing to be.

They don’t live in Manchester though do they? They live in Mere, Knutsford, Alderley Edge, Bowden etc. In places like the below…

With Snowdonia, The Lake District 1.5 hours away.

People are so lazy when they dismiss England/The UK because ”Manchester”. The UK has some of the most incredibly beautiful and varied countryside. With so many cosy, beautiful little friendly country towns and villages.

And I love Bavaria.

People still have Fred as a starter option ?

Hopefully understands the limitations Fred brings, lets sell him while we still can get something.

Dont get me started on Mctominay.

Rice, Phillips are the best options to partner Frenkie.

Surely he'll be all over getting the gang back together?
Why not ?

From what I've seen of DVB he seems to be happy in Manchester and loves the fans, his only problem was with not been given enough chances to start which was everyone's problem, with ETH here I think he'll be loving life next season. If Donny wanted to leave there'd be news about him wanting out like there was in the winter when he wanted a new club where he can play consistently, wouldn't be surprised if ETH has already had a chat with him.
Why not? His issues, if any, should be with the managers, Ole and RR. Getting ETH to the club must have been one of Donny's biggest dreams. The manager he was so successful with plus some of the players he played with must be an amazing situation for him. If I'm him, I do all I can to convince my former mates to join.
Willing to bet he's already had a chat with Ten Hag and he'll be back in the fold.
For the reason that he's struggled with the physicality of the PL, he hasn't been given the chances, and he hasn't really deserved them because he's been shit when he's played. Whatever state our dressing room/club is in will have made it's way back to De Jong when they've been chatting, VDB has also probably outlined his intention to leave United but now will probably stay thanks to Ten Hag coming in.

If someone had been talking shit about something for a good year and then completely changed their stance to get me onboard, based on nothing except your old boss is taking over, I'd be pretty sceptical about it.

You do realise we can't sell everybody we have this summer and we're already losing two mids?

We aren't going to be selling Fred for god's sake! He's the best midfielder we have left.

Nagelsmann is looking for 2 midfielders who are pressing machines. I think FDJ would for quite well into the Bayern midfield.

Isn't that why they are going for Gravenberch? Because they wanted Frenkie but couldn't get him so figured Gravenberch was close enough?

We stayed in Knutsford recently for my birthday. Never been before but nice little town and you can tell there’s loads of money there, seemed like every car parked there was either a Range Rover with tinted windows or an even more expensive sports car.

My hometown is the ford. Although I’ve been in Sweden for 14 years now.

I know it’s proper nice (rather than just home bias) cause whenever I take the Swedish part of my family over they are blown away by Knutsford, Tatton, Rostherne, Mobberley. Wales and the Lakes they adore. There’s something really special and so incredibly welcoming about the UK countryside.

I was coming out of the shops in a lovely little village when I heard an almighty crashing sound. I dashed forward to see a crumpled Range Rover tipped on its side, and some rich United player speed away from the scene in his vintage 1969 Mustang.

The owner of the Range Rover came along and looked at me, so I just pointed towards the fleeing car and said "it's that Cnutsford."

Rice with Frenkie would make us very defensive.
If we get Frenkie we need a good box to box number 8. With money being an issue I think Fred/Mejbri/Garner/Levitt would give us enough coverage at 8. We can't change everything in i transfer session.

i agree with the sentiments but where is the £200 for those 2 coming from?

Disagree, think we need one sitter and one deep playmaker, the attackign midfielder (Fernandes) and wingers are providing for the striker. ANyway Rice has evolved his game over the last season and can burst forward, DeJOng isnt a sitting plaeyrmaker like Pirlo for example, he often moves forward with the ball.

These two as examples would bring defensive positioning, intelligence, stability and also offer somethign goign forward. We are not signing either I feel, one is too expensive, one is going somwehere else....but are you genuinely saying signing those two makes us too defensive and doesnt work, we couldnt quality and player wise make two better signings for our midfield, if money and the players own desires were taken out of the equation

no idea why we would go for rice when we could have de jong plus another Cm for that price. Guarantee you can find someone just as good as rice without paying the stupid fees wanted

He has not been great at Barca which tells me he will be less effective in England as he will get less time on the ball.
I think it was pretty obvious that Suarez was going to be successful wherever he went in the same way Tevez was and now Diaz and Son are doing the same thing as they are players that work their socks off, have pace and have talent and are not lightweights. .

Also, say we sign one central midfielder, do you really think we have enough coverage? We literally are left with a new signing and McFred, none of whoch have shown they have enough intelligence or defensive nouse to play in the pivot, VDB who hasnt worked in the pivot and seems more a back up to Fernandes and has hardly excelled in this country so far and three youngsters who barely have any experience for us whatsoever.

I think regardless of who comes in, we need to sign two central midfielders this summer and both need to be able to play the defensive midfield role as currently with Matic going we have zero players that seem able to play the role

WHo is the player you gurantee we can find that is just as good as Rice out of interest? Not saying he is the best in the world, but he is ENglish, premiership proven, experienced for his age, a proper defensive midfielder and he is a quality player, only feels this season he is gettign recognised as one outside of West Ham.

We can get soemone to do the same role, there may be someone who is better, but who is available and on the same level for that role as there isnt an obvious choice to me.

And I am against signing him as well by the way at that fee. But then you could say the same about DeJOng, we could sign lots of quality young players that could do the same role as himfor half the price, probably not as well aslike Rice he is for me the best option for the role. I still think if we are paying the transfer fees we have more chance of getting Ricd than DejOng anyway....my hunch is DejOngs dream move has onot worke out, he wants lifestyle, money and the chance to play for trophies....its understandable if he cant currently see that here

What you talking about? living in a 4 million pound mansion in leafy Cheshire is a massive hardship.

Am i the only one not fussed about De Jong? I know he's a good player but what i've seen doesn't excite me all that much. Maybe i've not seen enough of him.
From what I’ve seen he’s a cracking player. Quick, tidy, takes care of the ball, and does something that we haven’t had in a player since Carrick….he WANTS the ball, and shows for it

No, de Jong is actually an excellent ball carrier, it's probably one of his biggest strength. If he is lacking something, it's the Scholes passing range, but not his ball carrying ability. Rice also has massively improved in this regard, he is in the top 95th percentile for progressive carries in the PL I feel these two could make an excellent double pivot if ETH wants to keep playing 4231, especially with someone who is basically a 9 1/2, like Bruno, in front of them.

He'd be a dream midfield signing.

Though I do think we'd need a sitter with real physicality and defensive presence beside him, ala Rodri, Fabinho.

He has not been great at Barca which tells me he will be less effective in England as he will get less time on the ball.

What have these attackers to do with FDJ?

You are wrong on many accounts. He has actually been quite good at Barca, not amazing, but good to very good in his first two years. This season he dipped a bit, but lets not pretend he was shit all the time.

With his skillset, he will be even more effective in England, just needs to settle after the initial change. Rodri is your best example.

Barcelona will sell to FDJ for about €90M.
They will try to sign Soler 20-25M.

I just hope that P. Torre has a chance to play. He can be a differential player, he has a lot of quality. We'll see if he develops as he promises.

We could probably get FdJ and Tchouameni for the price of Rice (if we manage to convince them to come).

We’d become a pressing machine overnight:drool:

Saw a few posters on a Barca forum say the opposite, that the quicker pace in the PL would suit his game more.

Makes sense if he believes he isn't being used properly at Barca and wants to play under someone who knows how to deploy him maybe
Theres a risk if he goes elsewhere and underwhelms again then that could sully his career

I was trying to find these stats but came across this from last season and the top 5 are all defensive players which waters down this achievement. It means (to me) that they play deeper and have more space to cover when having the ball at feet. I don't really want our DM doing that, i want him pushing up and pressing.
Just found this, all deep laying defensive midfielders again apart from Silva which impresses the hell out of me

rice isnt a guarantee either. Nobody is truly a guarantee. Shit i thought schneiderlin was going to absolutely crush it when he was coming in, def was wrong on that. Ill take the 2 cracks at getting a top player vs the 1. And there isnt much of a chance of United getting rice since west ham will put a huge transfer fee on him. Highly doubt ETH wants to come in and blow the entire budget on player
