Drawn out transfer saga for a player that doesn't seem overly keen to join.

Drawn out transfer sagas are nothing new, doesn't mean they are remotely similar situations. Fabregas was a disaster from the get go, almost as bad as going after Bale, yet Moyes insisted that those were the players he wanted and he preferred sticking with those two targets until it was done and dusted. What the feck makes you think Frenkie doesn't want to join? The prospect isn't that fecking bad, it's his former manager from Ajax and we're one of the biggest clubs in the world and the league is probably the most competitive league at the moment, if he was against joining us we wouldn't have negotiated with Barcelona over a fee.

I believe that at the moment no one knows if Frenkie will stay, possibly not even himself. It is clear that Frenkie can't continue with his Bartomeu contract, because it's way above the new limit Laporta's board has set. Frenkie would earn like 2-3 times more than Pedri and that can't be right. Not to mention that Barca needs to reduce their overall wages to a healthy €400m by the end of next season and that's why Barca's board set the new wage limit and try to offload players who don't agree to it.
We have to wait until Frenkie gets back from his holidays and decides what he wants to do. I very much doubt he thinks about wages and money in his holiday, especially shorly after getting engaged.

There‘s the question of deferred wages that is not being brought up much. I think Frenkie‘s salary will be close to a million a week next season, and other players have wage increases as well.

To fit the imaginary salary cap, FdJong would have to forego the deferred salary and take a massive paycut.

I don‘t see him agreeing to that.

It's still unknown when these deals will be agreed/finalized.

Short-term to sign players they need to move players on.

Frenkie is most appealing as he gives them a big fee + big wage removed. It's absolutely no coincidence Laporta comes out with such bullish comments after they have stabilized the club in the short term. Due to the intricacies of how the wage bill works their negotiating position with United has been strengthened (first lever-activated) and they are now trying to get as much as they possibly can out of us as it all counts.
Called it.

Amazing how he’s saying this after Laporte has made comments. He’s showing himself up as a bit of a bluffer this summer.
Who actually is he, anyway? Who does he write for? I’ve never seen any articles.

Yeah Shrager does come in a bit Howard Nurse like these days

Maybe you should learn history first. "Mes que un club" is primary a political statement, not a marketing motto most clubs have.

I know exactly what it’s there for, it’s also a load of utter tripe, it stopped having any political meaning a long long time ago and absolutely has been turned into a marketing slogan since. These days, that’s all that remains from the original meaning.

Barça started selling the soul of the club a long time back, then slowly shirt sponsorships, spotify, “levers” as they sell off more and more of the club. Even now, they are risking the entire future of the club by focusing on new expensive incomings.
Barça FC is nothing more than a huge commercial entity today.

He said we were negotiating for 3 players: De Jong, Ebiouwei and Vitinho…within 3 hours Vitinho had gone to PSG and within 24 hours Romano was saying we weren’t signing Ebiouwei who went to Palace. He’s great at saying who we don’t want - but anyone can take guesses at that.

It’s been discussed loads.

I think it's just a front. If those levers helped so much how come they still haven't registered Kessie and Christansen as Barca players ? still haven't renewed Gavi's contract despite them 'agreeing' to a new contract weeks ago.

Laporte is just doing his usual 'telling Barca fans what they want to hear' bollocks. They are fecked if they don't sell De Jong.

We should call their bluff and pull out of negotiations and then see how desperate they are to keep him.

Said months ago this was a waste of time I bet I’m proven right.

I bet if you are right you will still be told that United have done everything perfectly, no time was wasted, no fault of ours and everything is rosey as feck. Whilst you are just extremely negative.

If you are wrong and he does sign. Rinse and repeat.

It's more or less reached a point where I despise the vast majority of our supporters, massive twats. Bizarre that some can't calm the feck down. The basics are in place, Ten Hag wants Frenkie, Frenkie isn't against leaving and Barcelona are happy to sell him. Doesn't mean a transfer will happen, doesn't mean that we were morons going for him in the first place either. Frenkie isn't going to go public with a desire to leave the club, as he's well aware he might end up staying, and Laporte sure as shit isn't going to go public and proclaim Barcelona's desperation to sell him either. We're haggling over a fee that is acceptable to both parties, nothing more and nothing less.

The levers will have helped short term, but not for too long unless they take the required actions now.

From what we can gather based on news reports, Barca have agreed a €60M fee with Leeds for Raphinha, are renewing Dembele at a lower salary, registering Christansen and Kessie this week and want to keep de Jong if he takes a pay cut. Couple that in with Sergei Roberto and Gavi's contract renewals, i'm not sure how they'll manage it. In reality, their situation won't have gotten better, but worse because when the short term money has dried up, they're back to square one but with more problems and more players

MUFC and Barca agree a fee for FDJ and Redcafe's response to this is "See I told you, Murtough is a hopeless time waster" :wenger: :wenger:

Laporta want to do everything for FDJ to stay at Barca. But he has to take pay cut...hmm..

FDJ wants to stay at Barca. Barca is selling their future earnings in order to fund this and all new signings.

Barca is shooting themselves in the foot. We should stay clear of all these mess and move on to other target. Shits will hit the fan soon.

The offer we put in is very fair 65mil plus add ons considering FDJ is on enormous wages. We can't do anything more if Barca not willing to sell and FDJ state publicly that he wants to stay at Barca.

Its a win-win for Barca then.

We literally saw the same behaviour from Laporte before Messi departed. Take it with a huge pinch of salt. He could as easily be trying to hurry United up into agreement

You could well be right... He could still end up signing, I just have a bad feeling about the whole transfer personally.

So for such huge comments last night, and, in many peoples eyes on here the death of the deal, theres still very very little reports out there saying anything has changed?
I truly do believe if things had gone south we'd have heard something this morning. We may still do so, but as of yet, absolutely nothing from anyone in the UK or in Spain. Seems like people are seeing the comments for what they seem to be... Laprota playing up to the fans and making it seem like Barca can do everything they planned to do with no sales and a few wage cuts.

He is not coming and why should we hope someone who clearly doesn't want to play for us, comes for the money.

It is a bad (and embarrassing) transfer attempt. Feels like a potential Di Maria situation.

It is quite pathetic that our transfer targets are either players who will obviously not want to come, or players Ten Hag knows. Zero input from around 20 scouts working all year around.

Your life must be full of green lights eh? Everything is quite linear.

This all sounds like de Jong is holding out for a pay off because it's not his decision to leave and Barcelona are trying to force the issue by saying if he doesn't take a pay cut then it's his decision.

Does anyone honestly believe he's gonna take such a pay cut?

He wants to stay at Barca. That much is pretty clear. If Barca weren't willing to sell he wouldn't give us the time of day.

Granted I'd say he's interested from the point of "if I have to leave" then it seems his preference is us. But no doubt he'd rather stay.

I hope ETH gets his man. It would be quite the blow if Frankie decided to take a pay cut to stay with Barca than to join us with his former coach (No CL this season aside).

We will need as much financial flexibility now that Ronnies' leaving -- to save up for a replacement striker.

We didn't know what at the time did we. One of the reasons he wants to leave is because of us pissing around in the market

Fabregas: Club didn't want to sell that summer, club didn't need to sell that summer, player wanted to stay

Frenkie: Club wants to sell, club needs to sell, player isn't against leaving as he knows he's not wanted at the club

Yup, nearly identical scenarios from the get go

You’re working with old news pal, Barce have eased their need to sell in the short term and have raised funds hence why they’re on the verge of signing Rafinha for 60m.

The relation to Fabregas will be very similar if this deal doesn’t go through at this stage, we’ll look desperate and overpay for a player nowhere near the level of FdJ.

In what world does it take over 2 months of negotiating for a player who has publicly stated his desire to stay? it’s fecking obviously not happening.

Clearly heavy negotiation on Barca’s front while we do what we always do which is to piss about for months. At this point I’d suggest we decide what and how we are happy to pay and if that doesn’t work then look elsewhere.

Key word there - short term. When the cash injection has dried up, then what? They'll be in a worse position next year, and will have to raise the cash either by mass sales or selling off more stuff

Haha, the entitled prick Man United fan has already started to complain and whine like a bitch cause his precious little Frenkie toy "might not be coming".

All it needed was a random quote from Bartomeu, one he already said a few months ago anyway. It just shows how people are dumber and dumber with each passing day.

It's actually funny to see grown men post miserable stuff because of one quote. :D

Meanwhile, relax, he's coming and we all know that.

I said it a week ago, every major transfer target of ours has a sting of the tail right before it closes. Just when we think its about to close there is always a twist. Its amazing how many times this has happened and yet people are all losing their shit over it.

Almost ever transfer window this happens. And if you think this doesn't happen to other big clubs, its only because you don't read their forums on a minute by minute basis.

Oh okay, so Koeman is lying about what Frenkie De Jong told him personally. I'm sure you'll find a story where De Jong calls him a liar then

This is so weird. Of all the thing to argue about I didnt think it would be that FdJ would prefer to stay at Barca. We've all known that since the very beginning, or at least I thought we did.

Hasn't been a single tier 1 journalist really backing up any reason to think this isn't simply a matter of when not if.

yeah but why would you listen to a credible journalist when a habitual liar that barca fans don't even trust gives you ammuniton to chuck a hissy fit on a forum thread?

The Gospel of Laporta(tm)
