Don't understand this, mate - what do you mean by politicking? If the deal is done or is likely to be done, why would he give such a definitive statement about him not being sold? What does he have to gain?
100% this. Laporta has to make sure Barca looks tough in the press when in reality they’re negotiating a deal behind the scenes. There’s probably been a lot of blowback for agreeing such a low guaranteed fee when they reportedly demanded €100 million. A pathetic attempt to not look like a selling club.
This makes no sense. If it's done why say anything? Easiest thing to do would be to say that they are unveiling their new signings this week and that FDJ would be moving on. Nothing to gain in claiming he's not being sold.
So fans don't blame him for selling Frenkie if it happens.. can claim he wanted FdJ to stay but the wages made it a challenge and FdJ followed the money to United.

You have a fair point. Maybe I'm just focusing too much on last season and those many terrible performances we put in are sticking in my head too much. Chelsea still feel for me though a bit ahead. Won the europa in 2019, Champions League 2021 (anomaly or not) and reached the FA cup final 3 years running (Yes I know they lost all three but at least they got there). I certainly wouldn't blame De Jong for picking them over us.

Yeah but with the way fdj is being treated, he should’ve already handed a transfer request to force a move to us who are waiting desperately for months now. But, he always said that he loves to stay there and it’s his dream.
They can't do anything no player is taking a substantial paycut on their existing contract to stay at Barca that's just Propaganda most they have done is deferment of part of wages but they still need to pay that eventually .
They save £20m in wages selling De Jong plus the fixed fee on £56m we are giving upfront.

I definitely do not think this is happening, at the moment at least. The reason lies with Frenkie himself. The guy can read the press and when he reads what Laporta said, he will jump on this bandwagon. He wants to stay, that much is clear, and I’m sure he’d rather take a paycut than be moved on. There’s 3 parties to this agreement and Frenkie will be more convinced he needs to stay put after this. Laporta knows this and therefore will not risk the move falling through. My conclusion: they actually want him to stay on reduced salary. Shame.

The possibility of this falling through could also be why Ronaldo decided to kick up a fuss now. Who really knows. The timing is certainly strange when he knew our state months ago.

Frenkie’s next move should be about the next 3-5 years and about getting back to his Ajax level and playing in his preferred position, a position where he can influence a game and dictate tempo. It should not be about what old superstar he can play with for a season.
