Why? These sort if excuses aren't seen in any properly run club. Why not just admit that similarly to other years we struggle to do more then 1 deal at once?

because eth has shown before he builds teams based on the players he has. At Ajax he had 3 v different style teams. Playing with de jong means we don’t have to get a cb this year, also means we don’t need a new cm (Fred will pick up that this year). Instead we will focus I think on a backup st, rw, rb. Had we gone with neves or ruiz we would have gone with a dm and cb. Its really not hard to understand

If we pull this transfer coup off, it proves we can still do things that other clubs can only dream about in the transfer market. It's a reason to be optimistic now we've found a diamond head coach to lead us back to the promised land.

we probably do have a plan B, but why settle for that when you get your plan A?

If you want a ferrari you don’t get impatient and buy an alfa romeo instead.

De Jong is still on holiday. We are probably waiting for him to return before anything really kicks off in the first place.

I am referring to a scenario we're we buy de jong for more money. In my opinion we are the same sluggish United who take ages to sign a player or conduct more then 1 transfer as a time. Now back to de jong

These clubs are ahead of us despite not needing the millionth rebuild we do, most of whom involved murtough as well.
FDJ is a better signing than any player Arsenal/Spurs will make this summer. And I really can’t emphasise this enough - it’s fecking June. So them apparently being ahead of us because they’ve made some signings has zero relevance at this moment in time.

So we aren't able to make a plan B? What were our excuses in previous seasons when transfers took ages as well? For example it took us 2 years to sign sancho and maguire
Yeah, cause we are the only ones in the world who don't always get all the targets we want... Let's ignore how long it took 'more efficient' clubs like City to sign a striker, Liverpool to sign Van Dijk, Chelsea are still chasing Kounde for feck knows how long now etc etc. Just because you don't follow other clubs transfer activity as close as ours, doesn't mean they they are somehow far far superior in doing that. The view that we shouldn't spend time negotiating to save 'just' £5m (ignoring the other important things like negotiating having to pay less in advance, or having more bonuses) or so is so flawed that if you were in charge, United would have been extinct long time ago.

We are buying a player neither Barcelona nor other clubs want ( on those fee). A player who needs to be dragged to Manchester

Barca wanted 100m initially especially coming off the Tchouameni transfer, they'll basically end up making what they paid for him ala us with Lukaku + Inter.

Hopefully it includes variables and a payment structure spread out over time so that we still have a decent kitty to be able to conclude more of this summers business.

Looks like it'll finally be concluded in the next few days. Then we can look forward to the incessant moaning about how much we paid.

You'd think everyone would be over the moon to finally replace Carrick after all these years of having a dire midfield, as well as landing the new managers #1 target

What do you mean?

We were literally in talks with Nunez, Timber, Eriksen, Martinez and De Jong at the exact same time.

Personally I think that ETH wanted De Jong as a centerpiece for his new team, and if we couldn't get him then we would shuffle to a different style which would require different players.

The all conquering Mighty Madrid failed to get Mbappe too.

City signed haaland, Liverpool bought nunez...none of these clubs are in the middle of a rebuild becausewe threw 1b in the dumpster. We took over 2 months to sign a player whose club want to sell and no one really want. He also need to be dragged to OT

The muppet train is approaching De Jong station. The only question is, where to next.

Eriksen if he wants to leave london......after that, everything has dried up. Antony seems to be a dead end with Ajax wanting to hold talent. I think FDJ and Eriksen could be our big name signings and then after that it's going to be quite for a while.

I expect this week to be a big week for clubs getting deals done. Players will be getting back from holidays, and we've another week before the full group are back in training. The haggling is frustrating for all but we've been a soft touch in the market for years and are clearly trying not to be seen to roll over for everyone these days. I think this will get done in the next couple of days, Eriksen soon to follow, and another player at the end of the window

Signing a player from Barcelona or Madrid is infinitely more complicated. It's not comparable to those deals where all parties knew a transfer was going to happen. It seems the Barca manager would still quite like to keep him. And they always drive a hard bargain, even when they are keen to sell.

Because it makes a massive difference if you sign a player on 15th of June or 29th of June or so... :wenger:

Well we signed a player for Dormund last year. It took us 2 years

1) As has been repeated constantly we have engaged with other signings. 2) He is on holiday. The only benefit of signing him sooner was to stop the moaning eejits who need their latest shiny toy from having a meltdown every 15 minutes. 3) You have no idea how much has been saved. Nobody knows what Barca were originally asking. 4) 5m isn’t nothing anyway. What a bizarre inference.

It’s exceptionally tedious that we appear to be set to sign ETHs key target, a player many would have loved and wouldn’t have thought possible 3 months ago who plays in a position we’ve needed strengthened for years and all people are still doing is fecking moaning. We’re about to sign one of the top midfielders around from Barcelona without CL football and the narrative is we’re competing with Brentford. It’s ridiculous. The media take their steer from the unrelenting stream of negativity online - it’s open season at United and any negative story gets everyone into an hysterical frenzy - and this place just helps feed that constant cycle of toxicity.
I agree 100%, but it's not worth your time making these observations to people that just revel in negativity. It's been a long time since I was last on here and the place is full of toxic know it all these days.

I'm sick of the narrative that the club isn't run well, when a few miles down the road the scousers have let their three top attackers run down contracts to just a year left, and have spent more than we will on De Jong, on a player that's had one good season in portugal.

There's far too much short sightedness going on. Last summer we signed varane, sancho and ronaldo, and everyone rightly considered us a threat. It just shows that every single transfer is a risk.

The most important signing this summer has been Ten Hag. I think it was just as important to get some players out of the club too. The club are trying to move forward and the fans can't let go of the disappointment of last season, understandably to a point. But our squad isn't as bad as last year's showing.

Exactly. When your only go to is to spin everything into negative there is no point. I don't know how people even have patience for that.

Once we sign De Jong, moaning will be on "he isn't good enough as Barca wanted to sell him and no one tried to sign him" it's tedious.

negotiations don’t always happen quickly. There’s a lot of factors in this signing. How they will pay the money, as in the structure of payments.. seemed to be the biggest stumbling block. If united have to hold tight and negotiate to enable a payment system that enables us to have more money for the transfer window then so be it. You don’t just throw the cash down instantly, it sets a bad example.

the club will sign players this window. It doesn’t matter who makes signings the fastest or what other clubs are doing. Totally irrelevant.

I think the results speak for themselves

Ours seem to always drag to eternity

Sometimes you just need to lube up and pull your pants down. Take it And move on. Everyone's happy

Manchester United will break the internet and get the important essential midfield player to build the future around, Barca sort out the financial problems selling a player they don't want or need. A win-win.
But how long will it take to build a team around him. He will be 40 years old.

In typical MUFC fashion we'll get a Simon Stone update of "No new bid yet" and then it will be announced early week.

This one is done. He's going to be a MUFC player.

We signed him when Dortmund were ready or forced to do business. The same with Haaland going to City. There was interest in Haaland last summer, but Dortmund didn't want to sell.

We refused to meet Sancho or move to plan B. Then went on spending the dosh on legends such VDB, pellistri and diallo

I'm not judging the current manager, coaches and DOF on the results attained by those previously holding said roles.

Murtough has been involved since moyes times. I don't blame coaches or the manager on anything
