Why is it drivel? It’s the exact same situation. Becoming a meme on here doesn’t change that.
United desperately convince players to sign when they don’t really want to every summer? Why is it then that people keep harping back to something that happened 7 years ago?

Move on to other targets and call Barcelona's bluff. Just let them know the budget is only going lower the longer they wait.

We're just waiting like idiots because clubs know we'll cave in and get desperate when preseason starts with 0 signings done.

Much too sensible a post. This has dragged out too long.

Either cover the 5-10m that appears to be the difference right now and get this done, or move on. The dicking around over an amount we can easily cover especially for a player who by all accounts the new manager regards as crucial to the transformation of the squad from one that barely qualified for the EL to PL contender is well worth the 5-10m that appears to be the difference.

We have other signings to bring home and if they all have to wait for Frenkie to get done, we risk losing out on them altogether.

Why is this being mocked? Isn't it true that the player does not want to leave Barca, doesn't want to come to us? Di Maria didn't want to leave Real, but was forced out. Di Maria didn't want to join us, but no one else wanted him for that price.

It's being mocked as it's ridiculous. Do you think Eric Ten Hag, a man who knows De Jong personally, has not even bothered to throw him a text to check he's interested before launching a bid to capture him? Nonsense.

It really isn't though

You're telling me I haven't been reading hysterical responses to tweets saying Barca won't settle for anything less than €100m, then anything less than €85m, now anything less than €75m over the last month?

I'd suggest having a read back through the thread pal.

If Frenkie is not that bothered about coming then why can’t the scouts look for 2 players who could fill his job? Anyone can say FDJ is good, but there will be other players around. Frenkie is no guarantee in the Premier League and didn’t pull up trees at Barca for the last three years. If this one is hard to do walk away and get someone else. Maybe Kone and Nunes would end up a better investment. And what is the obsession with only ever doing one deal at a time? The selling club gets a stronger hand. If Antony is easier to do, do it FFS!

Because they would cost a combined amount more than 65m?

If we fail this we may have to rely on Garner in FDJ role, and one of McFred on DM role.

I am saying thats not the order. Barca didn't kick off with a 100m EUR valuation of Frenkie De Jong.

Then what about Sanchez wanting to leave after one training session? Lukaku after one game? With their reactions it’s guaranteed they had to be convinced to join in the first place. They’re near enough the same situations just played out differently.
Hell Ronaldo was off to City before SAF and Rio played on his heart strings to get him to sign for us. Cavani was off to Spain last season before we got him to stay and he then lost interest. There’s so many instances of players starting for us that would rather be somewhere else that it’s sickening.

The problem is that a lot of posters here think they are smarter than the guys who are in the negotiation team despite not having any information nor experience in negotiations or capital expenditure contracts.

Dunning-kruger effect.

One would imagine that the first thing the united team would do a month ago would be to ask ETH who he wants and would they be open to a move.
It ain't slavery we are talking about here after all.

Neither you nor I know what Barca kicked off with.

I was talking about what the press and twitter have been claiming. This thread has quite clearly been full of tweets about Barca demanding €100m and people losing their shit over it.

I'm hoping €65m is the final offer as we'd be 10m away from Barcelona valuation. If we
increase the bid any higher then it'd be rather annoying as we've wasted all this time just to get De Jong for 5m less of Barcelona's valuation or their full valuation.

Everyone really needs to chill out. He'll be our player by the first game of the season.

I really wish we move on from this, we don’t have the luxury of a man City or Liverpool of being in a strong position to be patient with negotiating a shrewd transfer price for a player that doesn't even want to leave Barca for us. It is such a painful saga to watch play out because we have experienced enough tines of how these type of sagas play out in the with us either just panicking and paying the over price valuation for the player or we don't sign the player but theb panic buy some average player for an over inflated price because we have left things too late in the window

Our fans expect us to just accept Barca's demands and not negotiate, because saving millions of £ is apparently penny pinching?

But But, other clubs move so much quicker than we do on transfers.. is what United fans say without context.

City - Signed Haaland, been negotiating with him since Jan, then pay release clause, easy.
Aren't City linked with Cuccurella and kalvin Philips? if they so quick why hasn't those deals happened?

Spurs - Perisic free, Bissouma we dont know how long they were looking at this for?

Liverpool - Carvalho was meant to be Jan buy, so they had 4 months to sort it.
Nunez, they went and paid the required sum without negotiating.

When it comes to us, its a very critical window, every million saved is another million to buy more players. If we save £11m and £10m on another transfer, that could mean we could buy a £20m squad player.

That 20m pound player is going to cost more the later in the summer we deal. There isn’t any real issue in delaying the deal for FDJ, the real issue is not getting other deals in.

Just walk the feck away and sign an alternative.

We will get him for half the price in Jan or next summer. Guaranteed.
I’d maybe agree if I wasn’t 99% sure that we don’t really have a clue about alternatives and those we have identified are either equally as difficult to negotiate for as De Jong or half the player.

You really have to question whether he's even worth this type of drawn out saga. He's not Luka Modric ffs he's just an above average ball carrying playmaker. I'd rather have a pure no.6 like Sangare or Rice any day.

How do you know? That is a very silly statement tbh. We are not even 2 weeks into the window.

We know what the order of the journalist story was, and therefore what the reaction of everyone was at the time.
Besides, there was more people saying walk away if 100m EUR than those losing their shit.
