If we are still £12m short of Barca's price of £72m then it seems we arent prepared to go any higher than £60m...

He's been a bit annoying as a journalist of late. I think he's trying to say something without saying too much but he comes across as a "I know something you don't" sort of tit.

He's not tweeting this though. He probably said this in passing on a podcast or in the middle of an article.

That's true. But even in podcasts he coins things in a leading way which just ends up being frustrating. I'd rather he just said what he can say and leaves out cockteasing lines here and there.

Lest we forget. The Glazers will be taking their annual £11m this Friday.

Imagine if they just paid the asking price and actually invested in the team.

Nah, what am I saying…that’s what proper owners would do. Put the team first.

Ok so, even if the two things were related which they're not, if we pay what Barca want, should we also just pay the asking price for next 3 or 4 players we need this Summer? Is that really a good idea? Can you think of any downsides to your proposed strategy at all?

This analysis of Frenkie’s play at Ajax vs Barca is quite troubling. He’s quite poor defensively in La Liga, whereas he wasn’t at Ajax. There is a major gap in effectiveness vs Veratti, Thiago and Kante. He’s still elite in ball progression, but he’s been abysmal defensively. The fact that none of the other big clubs want him is definitely a red flag.

Hopefully Ten Hag can get the best out of him.

Hence why we still need someone to provide the defensive qualities in there too, however that probably needs to be raised by sales too.

And it also seems they are prepared to move on the demands they were making.

This keeps coming back every ten pages or so. Those stats lack context and the interpretation of those stats is poor.

His defensive stats at Barca are shit, because he plays like an 8, an attacking midfielder.

At Ajax (and Holland) his defensive stats are better because he plays in front of the defense, as a no 6 (be it a single or double pivot), which is his best position according to ETH, LVG and anyone who's followed his career somewhat.

The reason he benefits by playing with another holding midfielder is that he has more freedom to be creative, invite the press, beat the press and take risks in possession. It's not because he's a luxury player that cannot defend.

So surely getting one is a no brainer then

The upside is we’d have a complete squad before preseason. Rather scrambling around on deadline day.

Paying the value seems to work for Liverpool, City, Chelsea.

Every summer we try to haggle over the price just to pay the original asking price at the end of the window.

Maguire, Sancho, and even Bruno. Just act professional like our rivals do.

This deal is holding up all our other signings. ETH wants him, Barca are not gonna budge. Pay the money and get the the kid on tour with his new teammates.

Do they yeah? They don't negotiate at all? Are you actually serious?

Also the budget is finite. If we always pay the asking price it could mean the difference between getting 4 players instead of only 3. You don't think that maybe if we were known for always paying the asking price, no questions asked, that perhaps the selling club might stick another 10 million on for the crack?

Pretty sure we successfully haggled Bruno and Sancho but whatever narratives gonna narrate.

I believe we walked away from the mad money they wanted for Sancho the first year and got his price down the second. Bruno I'm fairly sure we didn't pay the asking price. You haven't answered any of my questions either. Oh and enlighten me on how our rivals don't negotiate and how negotiating a deal isn't professional.

A lot of muppets struggling to stomach the window this summer
Same every summer. Could dig out the same posts over Varane last summer saying just pay whatever they want.

Would love to negotiate in real life with some of them

Pre season training starts in a week, which is all a bit pointless if we are planning to make significant changes, particularly in the engine room in central midfield.

When is Frenkie back from holidays and which of our players are and aren't starting training next week?

EDIT: There was no need for that from me, sorry. As far as I'm aware the players who played Nations League have been given the first two weeks of pre-season off and even if we got FDJ in now he'd be given the same treatment.

Eh? what do you mean by this? Just pay what clubs ask like we got money to throw around so we can get taken to the cleaners. You seem to be insinuating that other clubs don't negotiate yet it's obvious they do. The same people will then moan we've overspent.
