What will De Jong play, as an 8?
as a 10 i heard. In fact, we might employ him as a false 9, seeing as we almost dont have any capable strikers.

As @Regulus Arcturus Black pointed out, Di Maria said it himself that he had issues with van Gaal. Of course Di Maria and his family struggled to settle in Manchester too but it would've helped if he had a manager that knew how to get the best out of him and didn't piss about playing him as a striker.
All the reports coming out today say de Jong is open to joining United and he's excited to reunite with his old manager.
Where would Bruno go? Wide?
Not really relevant though is it? Sometimes players move clubs when they don’t really want to and are still good.Robben was an established quality player.
FDJ isn't in the same class.

I dunno, you have to be careful what you joke about. There was a lad thinking Origi would be a good alternative to FDJ if the move didn’t happen. He wasn’t jokingJesus Christ, it was a joke, he will play as a 6 in a double pivot obviously.
We do need a left footer and oh my those stats. All aboard the Di Maria redemption tour.
Have no clue about this kid, hence my ignorance.Jesus Christ, it was a joke, he will play as a 6 in a double pivot obviously.

Thanks. Didn’t know ETH was going to use a 4231. Learn something new every day. He’ll likely play as one of two central midfielders.
Raphinha too. I don't understand their strategy at all ... for a club in apparent financial disarray and in need of some serious rebuild (both on the pitch and financially), it's a weird approach.

Good post mate. I share same point of view but you put it in the word better than I can.Very rarely do we have a summer window where we get the one player that I would want at the club at United the most. Think the last time was Pogba, and then arguably Sancho, if he were to be signed the summer before he actually did. For years everytime mention of Barca’s financial crisis arises my first comment is always ‘we should bully them for Frenkie’ - although never in a million years did I see it actually happening. Now, by all accounts, we are close. I couldn’t be happier. Having a team built around actual football is all I’ve wanted for us for years. Quality. Not all the other stuff, but first and foremost - I want us to be a better football team because we have better football handlers than you. This would be a huge step.
I must say that it is also tinged with some hesitation because to me, we need a midfield, not a midfielder - and I can’t see how we will get the best out of a player I think can be the world’s best midfielder in any combination of the existing unit. He’s the only player who looks to play football first and foremost of out senior mids, so him trying to lend and share the ball with teammates who possess no calmness or look to get shot of it anywhere within a second isn’t the most ideal. Still, it would be a huge step, and the right partner for De Jong plus at least 10 PL goals being brought in in any position would see me a very happy red this summer.
Groovy6 in a 433 I would think
-------De Jong------
Bruno----------Fred
Something like that
At this rate I hope we scrap the deal and re-sign Di Maria just so the moaners can shut the feck up.
If you think he’s lot like Pogba then let me show you something. Schone was his midfield partner in 18/19 under ten Hag and look at who made more defensive contributions out of the two? Pogba wouldn’t be able to do that for sure because the guy can’t defend.
Goldbridge goes live two or three times a day, so even when there isn't anything to say, he finds something to talk about. And sometimes it's okay not to have an opinion. But that's not practical when your job involves... being opinionated. So he just has to come up with something. This often involves spurious, cynical takes that are to the benefit of no-one other than himself. He assimilates himself to his audience to keep the super-chats rolling.
He is a persona, he's admitted as much - I actually think he comes across well when he's not 'in character'. But his voice travels amongst section of the online fanbase - so his opinions get parroted online. The incessant negativity is just tedious.
But this isn't a Goldbridge thread... De Jong is a real coup.

Was hoping not to see Fred on a teamsheet ever again...6 in a 433 I would think

ETH can still play lone no 6 for de jong’s role if he plays inverted full backs or playing 3 at the back. In 18/19, he didn’t play inverted full back but his full backs stay wider, which is why ETH played that 2 off no 6. De jong won’t play no 8 for sure.Thanks. Didn’t know ETH was going to use a 4231. If we pull this off it's 100% the ETH factor. We'd never had a chance without him (tbh if not for ETH I doubt he'd of even been a target)
Eh? Or maybe Frenkie is an ETH-type player? Someone like a Klopp may not have as much need for him?

you've missed the point completely
Would he be our best midfielder since Scholesy
At least our most press-resistant midfielder since Scholsey.
Yeah he certainly has demonstrated press resistant ability in many games, likes a burst through the middle as well by the looks of it.
Scholes is not press resistant to the extend of someone like FdJ. Yes in the right set up Scholes is untouchable, but standalone he's prone go direct with passing (good passing, not percentage ball though) to get away from pressing.Funny that word/phrase press resistant wasn't used on Scholes. Nor common then.
Prefers to play as a left winger is what I've heard.as a 10 i heard. In fact, we might employ him as a false 9, seeing as we almost dont have any capable strikers.
