How so? We've bought 2 midfielders already. We desperately need both quality and numbers in attack right now. Especially if Ronaldo leaves. Our options off the bench are Elanga and Garnacho. That's worrying, as much as I'd like to see Garnacho given chances. One injury and it's panic stations.
I just think Antony isn't the finished article, so isn't worth anywhere near that amount. De Jong is though, and we may not get another chance at him. He and Casemiro in the double pivot with Eriksen in front is a really progressive midfield.
Sancho, Martial, Rashford, Bruno, Elanga, Garnacho and hopefully a loan signing like Pulisic, Ziyech or Carrasco is enough for us to be competitive right now.
But the focus must be the midfield because it will both solidify our defence and help us to progress the ball through the lines and break teams down in attack.
We have a more combative midfield now with Casemiro and Fred, but I fear we'll have the same issue in getting our forward players the ball on a regular basis
The biggest issue, of course, is that none of them fecking move or run enough. But I'm hoping that can be coached.
Another season for Antony at Ajax under a new manager will help us to assess his value and potential better. There's no danger of anyone else coming in for him now.
