I really doubt he will have strung United along like this. I really doubt it.

After the recent flurry of reports, United must have asked for assurances.

Chelsea have yet to even make a bid.

That's not stringing United along, no club expect a player to only be interested or willing to hear from one club. That point from fans and journalists has never made any sense this summer, agents and players don't limit their talks and interests to a single club.

That is stringing Ten Hag along considering (a) reports from United's side have said they've waited this long because they've received assurances and (b) we haven't lined up an alternative target and have caught ourselves in a messy tangle.

So, yes, it's most definitely stringing United along. Hear Chelsea out, sure, and then tell United to move on rapidly. Don't string us along until the end of the window.

I've grown more confident that he has decided on United. Chelsea have yet to make a bid and relatively reliable Dutch + Barca sources are pointing him toward United.

I think Chelsea are out of the race at this point. Their interest WAS real, as in, it wasn't a pressure tactic from Barca but if it's true they contacted the player and he rejected the idea, they will move on to other targets. They aren't desperate like United for him, whom I believe will pay him a ridiculous salary on top of the deferred wage in the end if it keeps EtH happy. Also worth noting United have been chasing him the entire summer and have put the work in for this deal, for Chelsea it looked like an opportunity more than a necessity.

Do you actually believe that anyone would give such assurances without having an actual contract in hands? These reports are nonsense and no one is daft enough to do business that way.

You dont mean sport do you?

Is McGrath any reliable?

Seeing tier 2, not sure if that's still valid though

The article is pasted a page or two back. Just read it and judge for yourself. It doesn't matter what tier the journalist apparently is, this is a bullshit report that doesn't say anything of substance and isn't even entirely about FDJ. People put too much emphasis on who the journalist is and not what they've actually written. This guy works for The Times... people see a reputable paper in the link but he is still just churning out hot air.

In each case you rest the decision making power in FdJs shoulders. How is that right?

Give your head a wobble.

I mean Ferran Martinez. He is Tier 2 for Barca.

Neil Custis writes for The Sun but is highly reliable for us. Tier 1.5.
Ferran Martinez hasn't reported anything though...

EDIT: other than his gossip column round up this morning

The De Jong reporting changes by the hour. So what does that tell you? That nobody has a clue.

Why would anyone risk their career with a move like this? I bet even if you were a United supporter you wouldn't choose to go here if you were a top player in your prime.

FdJ won't want to join this shit
I wouldn't join a club in shambles if I were FDJ.
Yeah I wouldn't want to come if I were him as well.

Might as well close up shop in here, he's never coming
If I was a player of his quality I’d back myself to help turn it round, and rebuild especially after 2 games. I’d be excited by the challenge of reestablishing a fallen giant.

Living up to your tag i see

You're right but if you're a player you gotta be realistic, not even prime Maradona could turn this around , his career could take a very bad nose dive after this.

This needs more than FdJ to turn it around. He'll be asking himself if the club has the desire/means to make United great again, I don't think they have.

If it was me, I'd go/stay at a title-challenging side who are spending like they want to be the best in Europe.

All fair and noble but you'd fall in the 0.00001% then

Actual players don't ever willingly want to sign up for struggle no matter how well they're paid or how much they believe in themselves

The Brighton game last week was a bad enough advert for our club, but today's horror show is on another level.

How the hell are we supposed to convince him to join now?

If he was coming before (which he probably wasn't) he sure isn't now.
/thread

For his sake, I really hope he doesn't come. He's way too good to ruin his career at United.

Sorry for the WUM guys, just trying to cheer myself up because this is tragic. Aside from the banter and excitement of muppetry, it genuinely feels like our club is dying right now.

Zero hope in the world of him joining this shower of utter shite.
