Huh, interesting. He said we have a deal with the agent but the wages situation with Barca is unresolved.

Very interesting and this would explain why the club has remained confident

It has an agreement with Barca and the players agent.

Link it. Which information was out there that gave us concrete data that we could conclude categorically that FDJ was never going to move to Utd? Just give me one link. I'll wait.
Are you being serious? There have been several reports, the vast majority saying that he didn't want to join us/had no intention, wanted CL football, didn't want Manchester etc. All sounded pretty conclusive to me, you'd have to be suffering from a serious case of confirmation bias to dismiss all of that.

We are talking about the same City right? When have they ever cared about having too many players for the same positions?
Yes, we are talking about the same Man City who have never been stupid enough to buy a CDM this summer in Kalvin Phillips to then go and spend another 80m on a player who plays best in the exact same positon as one of their key signings this summer.

I really feel like this one will be hard to take when Chelsea's midfield with FdJ are running rings around McFred this season. Obviously once they came in we didn't really have a chance but it's incredibly frustrating as this will keep happening and we'll have to either figure out how to get in with young age promising players early (which would require scouts and foresight so that's not happening) or accept that we will be looking at rejects from higher tier sides and will likely never catch them as a result.

Imagine having a midfield of Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic and even Gallagher and still adding FdJ

Meanwhile we have McFred and are after Rabiot. What a joke.

3 months wasted for Chelsea to come in and get it done  laughing stock of the PL.
All good but how exactly will they play though? Kante and Jorginho would leave next year but still got another year. Kova and FDJ are similar players and can't start together. Need a Kante always to start with one of them.

Ralfie’s legacy lives on. I’m glad some of his fans were entertained in the press conferences, but lack of top four has massively set us back.

The board and football structure obviously take the biggest blame, goes without saying. But from the Boro cup defeat onwards, there was no excuse for not getting top four.
In fairness to RR, he was the one looking for reinforcements last winter and wanted rid of Ronaldo so they could employ the pressing game he wanted. Murtough and Woodward were refusing to take meetings with him never mind listening to the experienced club builder they hired as a consultant

Are you being serious? There have been several reports, the vast majority saying that he didn't want to join us/had no intention, wanted CL football, didn't want Manchester etc. Are you on a wind up?
I'm being 100% serious. I'm asking you for just one link and you are avoiding it. I'm not sure who is on the wind up. These "several reports" which are all news outlets right? I'm afraid that is not concrete information which confirms FDJ would never join utd. It goes back to my original point, you are not an ITK just like everyone else. You have zero information what is truly going on with this saga.

We just have to be smarter. Sign players who can take us into the top four. Then when that’s done bin them off and sign a higher calibre. It really isn’t that complicated. Look at how City did it.

He’s probably our best midfielder currently. Definitely a starter if he’s fully fit. Which I don’t think he is right now after picking up a small knock in preseason.

As I said, Liverpool may not have been thinking about a midfielder until now with their injuries. And City probably had no intention of selling Bernardo but if he pushes to go they will need another top class player to come in.
Yeah as I said, you'd have still heard links by now, that's how fast they move.

Liverpool have put all their eggs in the Bellingham basket for next summer. They've shown in the past that they don't react too much when they have injury problems, they stick to their original plan.

So in 20/21 they had Van Dijk, Gomez and Matip all missing a bunch of games. They always intended on signing Konate for 21/22 so instead of buying another centreback in January all they did was bring in Kabak on loan.

They're not gonna spend all that cash on De Jong and have him as one of their highest earners when they intend on using that cash on Bellingham next year.
Bellingham gets linked with Liverpool all the time but won’t he cost in excess of £100m? Liverpool never have spent that sort of cash and it’s hard to imagine them doing so, no?

Link us up with all the direct quotes from Frenkie.

What CDM have we bought exactly?

So this guy is stating Utd have a "deal with the agent of the player" and we already know Utd have a deal agreed with the club. Just another report to throw on the pile of reports we've got throughout this whole saga.

I think its clear we have an agreement with his agent, but does that mean the player also agreed?
It does not. It doesn't mean the player didn't agree, either. All it means is that, according to this report, the agent has some sort of agreement with United. One can presume that the agent would not have any agreement with the club on FDJ's behalf without FDJ being in agreement, but also one can presume that despite all of this, based on numerous reports, FDJ would still prefer to remain at Barcelona, and it seems like he has been putting his foot vehemently down on this. Unless something forces FDJ to leave, it is unlikely the agent's agreement will have any impact. If FDJ were to leave, it would fair game between United and any other clubs. The agreement is not a contract, but probably a suggestion that they have an understanding regarding wages etc. on the off chance that FDJ transfers. Now, this agreement doesn't mean he doesn't have other agreements with other clubs, too.

It's kind of ridiculous though, at the start of last season your squad looked good enough to challenge for the title, let alone top 4. It feels like your issues are much more institutional rather than based on some failure to bring in good enough talent.

Said it yesterday, there are too many conflicting reports by respected journalists. This one isn't over until Barcelona register their players.

Honestly I genuinely believe that none of the journalists have a clue. 99% of the information being provided will be coming from Barcelona and FDJ, 1% us. FDJ will be informing some people that he wants to stay and will fight it out, and Barcelona will be feeding all kinds of things to make FDJ look bad (often backfiring completely). FDJ has no reason to leak any desire or preference between Chelsea and United at this point. This will also likely be information being leaked by Barcelona, or just pure idle speculation (not to say it's unreasonable speculation).

To be fair I think they've shown with Allison, VVD, Nunez and Keita that they're willing to spend big for the right player.

Of course we have an agreement (in principle) with Frenkie's agent in terms of wages and duration of the contract if he leaves Barcelona. Even we wouldn't be so stupid to go agree a deal with the club without that. You always first talk to a player or his agent.

Problem is that he's deffered wages aren't sorted yet and we might have a situation of Chelsea jumping in as well, but we definitely have or we had some kind of deal in place with the player. Otherwise, it is beyond crazy to wait this transfer for so long and it doesn't make any sense.

@SportingCP96 i haven’t seen a lot of Nunes at Sporting but would he be a good alternative seeing as this De Jong deal looks dead ?

For any Juve fans or regular followers of them what about Arthur ? I think given a fresh start and an important role he’d be a good shout especially alongside someone like Fred who know each other’s game.

Obvious one is Bennacer who I’d be very happy with and apparently has a release clause, if we’ve agreed a £55 million plus add ons deal and the £17 million in wages with Barca for De Jong then there’s around £90 million sitting there that’s available and could bring in a couple of the names I’ve mentioned or one plus a defensive minded high intensity press machine to play alongside one of them.
Check my post regarding Nunes I have a whole thread on him. They are different players but he is a player United need in my opinion none the less.

It's kind of ridiculous though, at the start of last season your squad looked good enough to challenge for the title, let alone top 4. It feels like your issues are much more institutional rather than based on some failure to bring in good enough talent.

The club is currently restructuring. New manager, new coaches, new head of football, no chief scout, no head of global recruitment..

it also didn’t get CL football

This was always going to be a tough window and tough season but it’s about the bigger picture.

I really really hope that Chelsea are being taken for a ride here and the info coming from them is from Barca, to the owner, to the journos. It's not THAT far fetched.

But thats the same as saying it's ok to believe negative news regardless of the source and where it's coming from? I don't think half of these reporters know as much as they proclaim to know. They'll be getting sporadic info and expanding on it however they see fit with their own opinion. Even the super reliable ones such at The Athletic have added A LOT of opinion on their side, because theres just so little genuine info out there (other than what Barca WANT putting out there)
I agree there is a lot of noise out there. But all I'm looking for is a pattern and I'm not just agreeing with the negative news. Take Kounde transfer for example, it was a bit similar to this FdJ saga. Chelsea agreed with Sevilla but the saga dragged on further. It was clear that Kounde preferred Barcelona to Chelsea and was dragging his feet and hence the delay. Kounde was actually waiting for Barcelona to get their affairs in order.

The same happens for every transfer. We should have realized FdJ had very little interest in joining us and should have moved on. From what I've seen personally it doesn't take long for a player to agree contract if he is interested.

The media outlets have had an absolute ball with their click baits this summer. It must be a record coup for them. The one's who are regarded as reliable have been very quiet and rarely reported on this saga. Yet, we've had every tom, dick and frenkie reporting a new update every 2 hours.

I've never seen so much media coverage over a player transfer that doesn't want to leave. It's like watching climate change protestors handcuffing themselves to a bridge.

Sure but that’s the risk we had to take when we didn’t get CL football. Was always going to be difficult to get this profile of player without CL football unless they bought in to the rebuild. People were hopeful due to the EtH link but it looks like it isn’t going to pan out.

I’ll judge the club at the end of the window and how they react to the end of this saga.

I won’t start creeping around the dregs of oppo fans who are here to take the piss though and rub it in though.

I was taking the piss with the Chelsea comment hence the one tear comment it mustn’t have come across well

Have you just woken up from a month long dream?

You do know the reason he's keeping quiet?

IT'S BECAUSE THEY OWE HIM MONEY!

It's not like we haven't been through all this.....for what now, almost1500 pages.
That's what I mentioned in the first post. If he is after his money, he could have negotiated with us for that money like a signing on bonus or something. But we saw no such reports.

I really really hope that Chelsea are being taken for a ride here and the info coming from them is from Barca, to the owner, to the journos. It's not THAT far fetched.

I don’t see any change yet really.

If there’s an announcement that Chelsea have bid and Barca have accepted then I’d suggest that’s that but currently we are still at a stalemate.

I think its clear we have an agreement with his agent, but does that mean the player also agreed?
What could we possibly agree with the agent which doesn't involve the player agreeing? We have an agreement for the agent to mow the grass at old trafford?

I wouldn't even say that means it's game over.

We don't know whats going through Frenkies mind. He might see United as an exciting project thats a work in progress. He might say i wouldn't touch that in a million years. We just don't know.

There were reports that Boehly spoke directly to FdJ but the answer was that he prefers to stay at Barca and if he decided to move he'd be open to going to Chelsea.
