Some posters are too deep in to back out now and I get that, but realistically it looks pretty grim.
Imagine spending hours and hours camped in this thread, racking up so many positive posts and being bought into a concept that never even existed. The mormons of transfers.

People on here don't pay attention to movies enough. It's because it looks so unlikely that it 100% will happen.

How many think he's still coming

I'm still onboard, i know their isn't much reason to be, but until I see what Barca do with registering players I'm holding out until then, already wasted enough time, what's another week

I have no fecking clue. Was confident before, but the news/tweets the last couple days are so mental I can even begin to comprehend wtf is going. Barca seem absolutely mental, FDJ's silence could mean numerous different things. The fact we're being linked to other midfielders now would suggest we're at a minimum looking at other options, but no idea if we're still pursuing of Frenkie, or if he would want to join us.

Weirdest transfer saga ever!? Can't think of anything that comes close. Maybe Arsenal bidding £40m+1p to activate Suarez's release clause and Liverpool just rejecting it? But Suarez wouldn't have joined them so wasn't that mental. Maybe Tevez moving to City after his loan at United ended, but that was comparatively straight forward despite some people still to this day thinking we sold Tevez. Maybe DDG to Madrid and the dodgy fax machine, but that was all last minute chaos. Probably the only thing close was the Neymar/Barca/PSG saga.

Been telling this thread for 2 months this isn’t happening.

The player must have leaked his disinterested at joining United about 50 times over the last 8 weeks and people didn’t want to listen.

’We wouldn’t spend 3 months chasing him if he didn’t want to come‘…..this is the board who took 2 months to sign free agent Eriksen.

Calm down, you're closing in on 300 posts in here yourself

 fair enough
Andy Mittens said he was more confident than last week so it's clearly still on.
I heard this weeks and last week's podcasts. Last week he wasn't confident. This week he's just a bit more confident than last week, but his rationale for that is based on Frenkie being forced out. He said in the same podcast (as he did last week) that two independent sources confirmed to him he wants to go to Chelsea.

He's either staying or going to Chelsea mate. He's not coming to us. He was never, ever interested. The only argument was "why would we waste all these weeks if he wasn't interested" - and the answer is because we're incompetent fools. As you can see with Rabiot/Arnautovic pursuits.

Lots of people in here patting themselves on the back for their Nostradamus like ability to predict this deal is not going to happen. We may be in Parrot sketch territory here but it is not dead yet and frankly much as I would love seeing FDJ play for us I think I would love proving the negative doom merchants wrong even more.

They're quoting the Jason Burt Telegraph article where he wrote that line almost verbatim, not their own sources
Here's the line verbatim:
Preliminary talks have been held with agents although United have not yet decided whether to make a bid despite their hopes of signing Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong having all but ended as he indicates he does not want to join them.

It's somewhat close to ManagingBarca's Tweet, but I interpret this as conjecture from Burt given that we're actively working to bring Rabiot in along with getting in touch with SMS's camp.

I don't necessarily think he will definitely end up here, but there is way more to this than the papers would have you believe and because of that, I think there is a chance until there is no chance at all. Definitive news like FDJ signing on and staying at Barca, holding up a Chelsea shirt or United actually spending the FDJ money elsewhere are the only things that will kill this off now I think.

Whether he ends up here, at Chelsea or stays at Barca, if you disregard any club bias, this is a really interesting saga to watch unfold from a football, business, financial, legal and ethical standpoint. It really has every angle covered!

Reminds me of when we tried to sign Sancho the first time. Dortmund gave us a deadline and after the date passed some people still swore a deal was possible

Outside of a few crazy people, you're still in with a chance at a place in the starting 11.
I am trying to search this information but it won't come up  My post was only about the few crazy people, by the way.

The part that makes no sense though is that if he is not a free agent then he reverts to the old deal under the terms of which he has not been paid 17M that he is due and for the record the old deal would still put him above the ceiling they have established for their new wage structure so the benefits to Barca in this don't appear to exist. This appears to be more of a bullying tactic with the threat that Frenkie is somehow implicated and could face penalties if their case is proven but considering his agent will have represented him and La Liga signed off on the deal their case looks insanely flimsy. If Barca actually try to push this and some of their fans are baying for them to do so they will not only lose but you would have to think that this would be the line in the sand for FIFPRO and UEFA to get involved and the consequences could be very ugly. I think it is just another tactic to get Frenkie to sign for 50K a week and offer his eternal thanks for the privilege of being allowed to stay which he is simply never going to do.
This is the conclusion I keep coming to in every scenario. Unless they pay him out and send him to us (I don't believe Chelsea are truly in for him), he can just sit and let the courts decide. And they will side with him, Barca have acted in bad faith at every turn.
