Don't think it would affect him either way though.

But I'm sure if this one was not happening, we would have briefed the press that we moved on to another target/pulled the plug.

Its still radio silence for our english T1 sources right now regarding us.
To be honest, it's the same with Chelsea T1 sources too. They're only passing the info off as one liners in unrelated articles, almost as if it's a non-story but they'll add it as it's something.

If Chelsea were interested, confident and ready to bid/close to deal as early as next week, you could imagine that the BBC would have gotten wind of it at the very least, or we'd have a full story from a Chelsea T1 not just a passing remark

The way I see it, no one knows what De Jong intentions are beyond getting his money from Barcelona. The mention of other clubs is always an afterthought, whether you look at spanish or english articles.

Just the usual X (owner/agent/player) has dinner with Y (Club/president/CEO) and then rumours start flying.

If we're being cynical, its likely barcelona trying to play games and either attempt to start a bidding war or scare us into paying more.

Or its just the journos making shite up as usual, because news has been hard to come by these last few weeks.

What's in it for ffpolo to just make up something like this, besides the obvious clickbait? It's such a bold statement. If they really are clueless and he ends up joining Man Utd, it would ruin what credibility they have regarding transfers.

Are they just a Barca mouthpiece trying their best to encourage Chelsea to make a bid? How would that even work? Surely Chelsea would already be in contact with FdJ's agent and know full well the situation.

Any media outlet sticking their neck out like this seems pretty conclusive, if for no other reason than I can't understand why they would make it up...

You said that like their is credibility in the ITK twitter game

It's mostly the sun, mirror back pages back the day, only it's delivered on the minute. If the ones who are seen as tier 1 literally making shit up daily in articles, and then it's getting re-shared in tweets as breaking news.

Romano is a total tap in merchant as well and he's seen as a very good source. They literally covering all bases in most of their tweets.

Imagine chasing a player for 3 months only for him to join your rivals who only really showed interest last week, rivals who have already spent 200 million+.

You can't even say its typical of United this would be by far the most embarrassing saga even worse than Fellaini and Fabregas. Not even as fans but for the club itself, meant to be making progress and the whole hierarchy had changed to facilitate that in terms of being proactive regarding transfers, really should have sorted out this dreadful midfield 2 months ago yet the reality is once again McFred on Sunday.

Chelsea did something similar with Pedro. Woody went out himself to get the deal done and then he went to Chelsea.

They did, that's right. Also remember at the time we were heavily linked with Pedro one of the papers ran a story that van Gaal preferred Mane instead and a lot of fans went berserk at the prospect.

Not denying that he'll join Chelsea, but this gobshite said exactly the same thing about him joining us a few weeks ago.
Give it a few days and he'll be heading to United again.

Barca are just a bit of a mess at the moment. I just can't see Chelsea going after Fofana for £85m then spunking anywhere from £85m - £100m on de Jong and THEN looking for a striker too. Would be a bit stupid to spend so much on a position thats not really needed to be reinforced this window.

Where you are presenting something as fact in a transfer thread you need to provide a source. Then people can form an opinion on the source and the bigger picture. If he made it up or he was told it by a dog down the park our opinion is going to be very negative about him and his input
If he had said ‘I think…’ before presenting what he presented would you have been ok with that?

I don’t think so. Look at what he said, it’s so out there. “The attending journalists will be briefed privately after the Brighton match”
How could anyone come up with that as a theory? He’s read it or heard it somewhere and the right thing to do is present the source

I don’t know that Barca really believe that spreading misinformation can create a bidding war. We have to credit the other parties with a modicum of awareness. The various FDJ noise, including the Chelsea stuff is probably to take some of the attention away from their financial predicament and to reinforce the perception that there are funds incoming.

Calmez vous les Muppets.

Barfa is barfing misinformation continuously, journalists are tweeting their ‚feelings‘ and there is no official bid from Chelsea.

Hold the line!

Of course, I would defer to the superior intellect of Dr Bebestation.

To be honest they have a better team and champions league football. And ownership thats clearly willing to spend to improve a good team. If we both went in for him today there'd only be one winner. I'm hoping us chasing him for 3+ months will buy us enough credit to pip them

They do have a better team but there’s not a lot in it. If FDJ joins us it will be arguable, assuming ETH can get us organised. They do have CL but we have a much higher profile, even with poor results in the last decade. His girlfriend might influence him and might prefer London / Surrey but we have the ETH factor. When people say it’s 50/50, it’s hard to disagree.

Reading between the lines, this may be Barca gently letting there fans know that Bernardo Silva might not be coming after all. As the FDJ move was directly linked to Silva coming in, it may be the case that FDJ is adamant he is staying at Barca, as are other players they want to shift from the wagebill and they cant afford him.

Staying at Barca is lesser of two evils than joining Chelsea from our perspective.
