Looks like Barca are still banking their future on the ESL becoming a reality.

Juve Real and Barca are still all in for the ESL. Shame no other club is

There's potential there to make their own unique brand of 'triple threat football'.

A triangular football pitch with three goals. Special guest referee each week. Simeone, Gattuso, Mascherano at pitchside to give a few thumps to any of the players if they leave the pitch to collect the ball or for whatever reason. Title belt is suspended above the pitch and gradually lowers and swings over to the winning team's third throughout the game.

Pretty sure the banks that bought the stake will have jnsurance against such a move.

Barca able to register their new players:nervous:

Damn, so this can drag on till deadline day. I thought they'd be forced to conclude negotiations by opening day because they can't register Lewa, Raphinha etc. w/o selling of De Jong.

Each lever is like a 100m! Who is buying so easily with no negotiations.

What a plot twist.

No, this latest deal is selling 25% of a loss-making outfit for 100M. All predicated on a world where people pay millions for a monkey avatar.

La Liga wage cap calculations apparently written by said monkey who can't differentiate the relevance of one-time revenue from asset sales vs recurring revenue when assessing coverage of recurring wages.

Is Barca Studios the equivalent of our MUTV?

His value will decrease if he's not playing, or is playing as a centre back.
Ok, so you wait until deadline day not blinking on the back of this hypothetical?

"Don't worry ETH, they'll blink and you'll get your fulcrum. If they don't, there's always McFred and Savage Zidane".

I would argue the pull the Spanish teams have now is the weakest it’s ever been. Yes they’ll still attract some stars due to the location and lifestyle but they certainly don’t have the pull they had 10+ years ago. The likes of Haaland and Mbappe would be playing there right now if they did. The truth is the money in the premier league has been out muscling La liga for a few years now. We have arguably the best 3/4 managers in the world now and a large chunk of the best players in the world. More than any other league.

outside of Haaland I disagree. Mbappe will join Madrid eventually. Chelsea got gazumped on a lot of their targets to Barca. And this is a Barca team going through so much internally. Outside of getting players from the Portuguese league and Haaland the pull of PL is still second to Madrid/Barcelona. Mbappe took the biggest contract in history and even then he only signed for 2 years. Man city are the only team with gobs of money that can hand out silly contracts if they wanted to like psg. Liverpool are smart but won’t be going for superstars they’d rather build them and the other teams don’t have the pull the Spanish teams have right now as Chelsea are losing out on several players by a mere phone call at the last second. United don’t have CL and teams like Tottenham and arsenal definitely don’t have the pull of the Spanish teams.

I wish they would also tell us who buys these levers. No months of negotiating or anything, lever for sale, sold!

Yeah I'm sure someone has done a DCF analysis on these, but I'm amazed that 25% of Barca Studios is worth 100M. I don't even know how they make their money. I assume Barca studios owns the players' image rights and such? So revenue from commercials etc. goes there?

I doubt the Spanish government would given the Catalan divide.
No they wouldn't. The Catalan nationalist government uses Barca as a vehicle for its own propaganda so no way the Spanish government will help them (they shouldn't help anyone btw).

It would be like the UK Government bailing out as a team which promoted the SNP.

Barca are the worst run big club in football. Thr short term moves they’re making in desperate bids to get cash are tragic.
Don’t think Xavi has shown anything as a manager worth backing this much over either

A stubborn idiot for not letting go of 17m?! Really? :wenger::wenger:

What an absolute idiot, not giving up 17 millions that he’s owed for the sake of convenience!

Except he isn’t legally owed anything from what I understand and Barca clearly don’t want to pay. The smart move at this point is to cut your losses and actually continue your career elsewhere, rather than stay put at a club that obviously don’t want you.

The Murtough grin... could be infuriating if we end up not getting FdJ. Could be more interpreted as "you're having a laugh". We shall see...

You’ve forgotten Eriksen. We’ll also keep 2 of Garner, Savage and Iqbal would be my guess. That sounds fine as a selection of midfielders to me. Better than pissing money away on the likes of Neves or Tielemans

This is the right mindset. We have a brilliant youth academy but we hardly make use of it. ETH wants to and if we truly want to build a different culture they need to stop spending huge amounts of money on players we're not in love with. This window could be considered a disappointment to some but at least we got some nice deals/players the manager really wants and didn't feck up the budget on guys that will fill the bench for 4 years after a flopped first season (Mata, Fellaini, Donny, the list goes on).

It's no longer our problem. We've had a bid accepted and now it's between Barca and De Jong. Sure, we could go and pay £17m and bail them out, but why would we? Why shouldn't Barca use £17m of our bid to pay him off?

If he doesn't come, he doesn't come. But the fee agreed is about right. Paying almost 100m for a player they don't want would be silly.

Barca earning more money, still won't pay Frenkie

Say what you want, but having a midfield duo called Savage Zidane is pretty fecking awesome.

But if the Spanish government owned them, couldn't they force the narrative to change?

Barcelona is acting like a drug addict. Selling of their furniture and belongings for a quick fix.

Agree. They got themselves into this mess and if the roles were reversed (and we had some players they wanted!) they'd have no problems low-balling us and forcing the player out.

Savage Zidane sounds cool. Like he’s the bare knuckle champion in the back streets of Oran, Algeria

That thought process only works if you're certain we won't get De Jong. As squnadering £60m on Neves fimrly puts the nail in the coffin for the De Jong transfers.

It's the same thought process a child uses when you go into a shop to buy a lego set they've been after for ages - to find it out of stock. The sensible thing is to save their money until it's available again. The child obviously wants to buy anything with the £50 they've been given, so they waste it on megablocks because they haven't got megablocks and it's sort of like lego.

We all know megablocks is far inferior to lego, and that silly child has wasted their money through impatience.

Disagree with the analogy. United’s biggest issue now is only targeting one player for positions. We either pay over the odds to appease the manager or we play this awful waiting game. Some fans say that’s a great idea but I don’t get this logic. We waited a season to get Sancho and saved ourselves some money but were left with Dan James as the only RW for a season. We then panic bought two young RW for about £35m anyway (it seems likely both won’t have a career at United). And with players coming in so late in the window they have missed pre-season training and any new tactics the manager is trying to implement. Just like Maguire and Cavani when we signed them.

The De Jong situation is exactly the same. Wasted the whole pre-season period chasing him and I still believe it’s not happening. It seems more likely we will wait rather than panic buy another option (because we don’t have a viable one). But this squad ‘transition’ process continues to be extended year after year. With the players that left in the summer we simply need 5/6 new faces in by now, and there were plenty of options available on free transfers which we missed out on.

The club sits on their hands and doesn’t take decisive action. Man City have walked away from the Cucurella deal because it’s too much money, the player even handed in a transfer request but the club walked away. I’m sure they will find a suitable option, because their scouts do a decent job. This idea that De Jong is the only player to resolve our midfield is wrong. He hasn’t even done well at Barcelona and if reports are true about salaries above £400k a week, we are repeating the same mistakes as before.

Both Fred and McTominay need replacing as starters. Half the league have a better CM pairing. There were plenty of players available if the club moved quicker. Chasing a lost cause for months has meant we have lost out.

Barca TV is part of Barca Studios. The deal is primarily based on developing a digital strategy (NFTs and all that bollocks).

I can see direct streaming to the fans as the next major revenue stream in the mid-term -- same as for MUTV. This will be the thing that elevates United's value exponentially, bigger than any super league BS.

But NFTs...

He’s not going to Chelsea, it’s such wumming bringing it up at this point.
It's because Chelsea have two players they want, Alonso and Azpi. and everyone knows Boehly needs to make a statement signing after their own shitshow of a window

The Glazers would love to do that, but the EPL doesn't allow clubs to negotiate their own TV deals.

He may not go to Chelsea but they could do with him, they were playing Loftus Cheek in there last season.

They are weak in CM (injury prone / ageing starters with unproven/ proven not to be good enough backup) at the moment (just not as weak as United)vs the likes of City/ Liverpool.
