Why do some of you still want him? From all reports we did everything possible to sign him, Barca made it quite clear they were willing to get rid of him (not receive a bid too good to refuse, just get rid of), then Barca proceeded to treat him like shit and de Jong STILL refused to come to us.

Yup, and at this point it was de Jong or Casemiro (not both). Casemiro is showing his class in a position of need, so we can't really complain. Adding de Jong to this midfield would make us somewhat competitive going forward with City and their insane depth, but I agree I would rather take on someone younger and cheaper that can do 80% of what dJ does
