Frenkie De Jong | Performances

What a strange thread. He looks great.

He was one of the lowest performers of the entire team behind at least 5 other Ajax teammates, outperformed by van Beek just as in the 1st leg, especially in the 2nd half. But because he is a future Barca player their entire fanbase will spin this into a De Jong masterclass.

Judging by today's game, every single Ajax player gets into the Real Madrid side.

Wtf, even if he wasn't MOTM why already predicting he will flop? Wait and see before making final judgements.

I don’t know what you’re all smoking. De Jong was sensational. We would win the league just by adding him to our midfield.... seriously. Brute strength, athleticism, intelligence etc. I suspect players like him and sancho never fancied coming here given the shit Mourinho was serving up.

He’s great and will fit Barcelona perfectly. With him and Arthur they have a guaranteed top midfield for a decade.

Busquets, De Jong, Arthur, Rakitic, Aleña, Vidal, Sergi Roberto, Coutinho, Rafinha...

Surely Barca have to sell one of their midfielders? Would be insane to keep everyone.

Some people need to find another hobby.

The guy made one huge error. He was brilliant the rest of the game.

 Wipe yourself off and move on, man. Frenkie is the real deal.

Did he shag your missus or something?

De Jong and brute strength?

Brute strength.. I'll have what you're smoking please!

I see some similarities with Modric. The way he just gracefully glides across the pitch and opponents can't get close to him. He makes everything look easy.

Nice battle between him and Modric. His defending was the biggest surprise to me. Yesterday he outsmarted Real Madrid with his movement, superior touches and vision. If you can't see that, you'll need to stop watching football on this level. Barcelona got it right again.

To be honest, it wasnt difficult to predict him and De Ligt on the road to being world class and becoming great. The talent paired with professionalism brings you very far.

On his day, he is untouchable. He only needs more consistency and ironing out his mistakes. From his interviews, he knows exactly where to improve. Will be among the best midfielders in the next decade for sure if he wont have bad luck with injuries.

He was fantastic last night and did live to the hype around him.

He will do good at Barca and seems motivated to improve.

Sensational is the right word. That bit of play where he bullied Vinicius off the ball and ghosted past Modric was ridiculous.

It's funny how people on here were predicting him flop yet Barcelona went out and paid €70m for him.

They didn't do it on the back of reading some hype on an online forum. They would've been scouting him for months/years.

Reactions: harms
After Sancho, he was my second dream target for the summer. Sadly that ship has sailed now, but his talent is ridiculous.

He had a very good first half. Second half I wasnt as impressed and he tried to overplay right in front of his own box, losing the ball and Madrid should have scored. So still some things to work on

True, he has to work on his stamina. He told he cramped up completely in the end, which led to "that" mistake.

funny thing; a Dutch reporter told him that he shouldn't attempt to do that again in that position. Frenkie told the reporter that he will, but only better.

His touch is excellent. The way he creates space for himself is a joy to watch. Him and Arthur in the same midfield is cheating.

kid is incredible, only needs to polish his game and cut out the mistakes. Looks like Modric is passing over the torch :D

Apparently chose Barca due to Nike subsidising his wages.

Nike played a key role in Frenkie de Jong's decision to reject an offer from Paris Saint-Germain and sign for Barcelona, sources have told ESPN FC.

The company, a sponsor of both Barca and De Jong, will pay a large amount of the midfielder's salary, sources close to the club said.

The sources said Nike was not contributing to the transfer fee but investing a "very important amount of money" in wages. Executives believe the 21-year-old's achievements during his time at Barcelona will see the return exceed the investment.

For marketing purposes, Nike has asked De Jong to use his first name rather than his surname on the back of his shirt. "I'm not sure of doing it," De Jong said after signing.

Nike sponsors PSG as well so this doesn’t really add up

Air Jordan produced by Nike. Interesting too see if PSG continue with the Jordan UCL kits next season.
There's a 3 year renewable partnership with Jordan brand and the shirts are selling like hot cakes so it's very likely.

When I see this, it reaffirms my view that the only player in our youth setup that can replicate that skill is Angel Gomes and it makes me want him to turned into a midfielder all the more.
