Frenkie De Jong | Performances

Its not a crazy idea, but depends on a lot of factors...

- I cannot imagine Frenkie wanting to come here while Olé is still here.
- Would Donny still want to leave when a new manager comes in?
- Does Barca want Donny?
- It would require quite some extra cash from United side..

I am not expecting Ole to be around much longer.

As much as people want Donny to get a chance his best role is in attacking midfield where he can use his one touch play and clever movement to get into goal-scoring positions and help others excel. Bruno is better, and Lingard might even be more useful in that role. De Jong is levels better than Donny in a deeper role, he has a skill-set Utd need, that is hard to find, don't think you can say the same about Donny.

Here's the problem with your reasoning. They already made that sacrifice. The lost their biggest jewel to keep their young stars. If you look at the last two seasons barca have removed Messi, suarez, griezmann, Vidal, rakitic and pjanic from the wage book. Those were their highest earners and the reason they let them all go was to keep the likes of de Jong. Another thing that people don't get is how green nico is. He's barely played 5 matches. He's not gonna replace de Jong let alone busquets at this point.

And financially speaking they're already getting back on their feet. With fans coming back and a new shirt sponsor on the horizon they're even gonna bid 40 mil for adeyemi soon. So no de Jong is not leaving barca anytime soon.
Not really. Even Laporta admitted that he had underestimated the situation — hence them losing out on Messi's contract renewal. They still have Coutinho, Dembele & Umtiti being paid like best players in the league despite playing fringe roles. La Liga's restrictions on their spending leaves them barely any room for maneuver — and they lack a talismanic & consistent attacker more than they would miss De Jong if he was to leave (Fati is injury-prone and inconsistent, Depay is their best attacker but he won't win them the league, who knows if Agüero, another big-earner, will even play this season, the less said about De Jong #2 & Braithwaite, the better...).

The thing is, there are no ideal scenario for Barcelona at this point, they're in it too deep. And they'll have to sacrifice even more.

Good post! although I also agree on a poster after you saying that it is a bit dissapointing that Frenkie can't make his claim on the #6 at Barca with a 33 year old Busquets as his main competitor.

This guy is so insanely good though when properly used. I would love it if he moved away from Barca to the Premier League. I think he would be very well suited to the high paced, high intensity style of the league. He would be breaking out from defence to attack left right and center, it would be a joy to watch. More personally, the Premier League is the only domestic league I follow outside the Netherlands. Would love it if he would play there, so I can see more of him. I think United would suit his style really well as well, but I doubt he would go here as long as Ole is headcoach (no dig at Ole intended)

I dont think Frenkie would want to come anywhere near United while Ole is headcoach (dig at Ole intended)

Donny +cash for De Jong makes sense surely?

You'd be laughed out of the room mate. De Jong will soon be at the level of kimmich and co. And barca is already overflowing with central midfielders like gavi and pedri who have a higher ceiling that van de beek.

The messi renewal is an outlier. He earned 30% of the teams total wages. Ofcourse they'd struggle to keep him. And the days of Barcelona making 100 mil talismanic signings are over. Xavi will probably build through a strong midfield and hard working wingers. Your mbappe's and haaland's will never play at the camp nou under xavi. You're ignoring both the managerial and presidential changes. They won't be making huge splashes for a long time and selling their young gem to make one is even more unlikely.

As I've said, you only consider football perspective. They've lost almost half a billion dollars in the last financial year alone and were "technically bankrupt" as per their new chief executive statement (“When we came in this March, we found a club that was technically bankrupt; if it was a PLC, (the club) would have been dissolved”). It's not something that gets fixed by offloading a few of big earners, even if one of them is Messi. Note that they haven't got a big fee for any of their outgoing transfers.

They didn't want to let Griezmann go but had to do it as it was a chance to lessen the financial burden on the club. They'll have to make a lot more unpopular decisions in order to get back to normality. Does this mean that they'll sell Frenkie for sure? Obviously not. Will they be forced to consider a good offer? Yeah.

Am I wrong or Griezmann hasn't been sold yet? It's currently a two year loan with an obligation to buy after a certain amount of games. They need to get cash in the near future and there isn't a lot of players that can provide that outside of De Jong.

If there is the slightest possibility of him wanting to join us we should be all over him and pay whatever price. I would rather make him the highest earner in the PL than Pogba.

Get rid of Pogba, Martial, Jesse etc. and make way for this incredible and unique world class player.

What clubs can people see De Jong at?

City - Fernandinho replacement but Rodri woukd have to be more of a bench player isn't it? Alongside Gundogan, Bernado Silva and some others.

I don't see Liverpool having the money nor really needing him since they have both Thiago and Fabinho.

Should be too expensive for an Italian team.

Bayern normally go for this type of player but I'm not sure if the space is available either with Kimmich? Maybe it is, I'm not sure.

I think there are three teams in the world right now that don't need him.

- Barca, as they still have Busquets and already upcoming young midfielders who add similar capabilities (Nico, Pedri, Gavi)
- Chelsea, as they have Jorginho.
- PSG, as they have Verrati.

For all other clubs I dont think they have a similar type of player, ór they have one but Frenkie is significantly better (for example Rodri at City).

Depending on how things turn with Conte, Arteta and whoever manages United. Arsenal, Tottenham, United and PSG are options, I could see the two London clubs stretch their purses for someone like him.

Barca absolutely need de Jong. Busquets is going to be 34 and going into his last season. Pedri is an interior. Gavi is just starting out and nico hasn't even played 5 games. They'd be mad to sell a DLP like de Jong. The truth is the time to get him was when he was at ajax. It'll take something ridiculous to pry him away now. If he's sold it won't be for sporting reasons like that guy said.

Makes sense for Utd I meant, we could only hope Barca would take that deal.

If there could be a possibility of getting De Jong we should be all over that...but I assume City will go all out for him.

Fair enough.. I just want him to leave there as he is massively misused.. Hard to watch...

The best performance I’ve ever seen him have with Barca. Absolutely dominated the match.

Some on here thought he was overrated and not good enough for us

As i said, one of the best midfielders in the world when in form. Probably only behind Verratti for me.

Yeah, you're only as good as your last game on the Caf. Reported for omitting Kante, btw.

If ETH takes over, do we have any chance ? Perfect replacement for Pogba.

It's a shame, really. I was hoping he'd be continuously underrated by everyone including Barca themselves.

This is exactly what I've felt about DeJong since almost 3 seasons now.
Don't think any other proper CM comes close to these two except, as someone already mentioned, maybe Kante.

DeJong, Tielemans and Brozovic are the players we should be looking at in the summer.

Behind who? I don't think anyone even comes near Kante when it comes to ball winning and destroying the opposition midfield with sheer intelligence and energy.

Kanté is the best CM in the world and it's not even close in my book. Unbelievable ball winner and carries the ball exceptionally well as well. He's got plenty of nagging injury concerns as well and still is peerless.

Not even close is hyperbole, Veratti is more than close for one, we see it every time there is a big CL or International game he simply doesn’t have a bad performance, I think if not for him playing in France he would be rated closer to the likes of Xavi and Modric, that’s how good he is, he is consistently the best player on the pitch any time PSG face a worthy European opponent as well as winning the Euros with a decent but not spectacular Italy side.

Nah, now of the above have even been ever close to being the MVP of their team winning league and continental titles. It is just Kante is nowadays having fitness issues.

To be fair Kante hasn’t been playing with Lewandowski Mbappe Neymar or Salah or he too wouldn’t be MVP of his team.

Verratti wasn't even the best player in that Italy midfield though, Jorginho was easily better and Locatelli also played well when he got the opportunity.

Kanté is rarely not the best player in his team. As you say for France perhaps Mbappé outshines him and very occasionally Pogba too but there's not many around who can. He consistently drives his teams to win big trophies - leagues, Champions Leagues and a World Cup on his CV. Verratti has won plenty too but usually in better teams and less impressive tournaments although I think they've a good chance at CL this year in fairness.

No Veratti was better and in these CL clashes in the last 5 years Veratti has almost undoubtedly been the best midfielder or even the best player on the pitch each and every time.

My argument is not that Kante can’t be considered the best Cm in the world(even though I think Veratti is), it’s that he’s not far ahead of the likes of Veratti Thiago Kimmich at all.

Thiago? You're on the wind up surely.
