Matic tries to do just that tho, albeit unsuccessfully most of the times.
Matic does it 100 times slower and with 100 times less risk.
Look at that acceleration! I love players like him who make the game look easy.
Less risk with Frenkie, last year's dribble completion was 93.4%, pass completion 91.4% and he doesn't like sideways.
He pulled the same trick as in the game against France. For France, and other teams, the first rule now seems to be: make sure Frenkie doesn't get the ball. So he's marked or the passing lines to him are marked. Against France, the solution was found at half-time, against Germany after 20 minutes.
He left his position on midfield (which was between left and center midfield) and started wandering. He was all over the field. The marking follows like a magnet, but less accurately and eventually half-assed. Then he gets the ball and exploits the space left behind by the markers.

I like him. Justified hype unlike De Ligt.
While it is nice play, hes not much of a ball winner. Neither does he have the physicality that sees Matic and Fellaini selected as our DM and not Ander.
So if we played him as our DM you can expect to see Fellaini or Matic selected in the same lineup while Mourinho is manager. Alternatively he might be pushed into a normal CM role rather than a DM one.
Also we're talking about a league where statistically Daley Blind is performing just as well as him and was better than him against Germany. Perhaps that also says something about Blind being underused and underrated, but considering Mourinho wasnt keen on giving him many chances it doesnt fill me with confidence that he's such a great player that he could overcome Mourinho's stubbornness to stick with physical players.

Absolutely no chance Ajax will sell their best player in January. And then come the summer I'd imagine a bidding war from the likes of PSG, Barca will happen so chances of getting him very slim.

de ligt had a bad night. But I think he cant play alongside Van Dijk. At Ajax he is the boss. He rules the defense. Yesterday Van Dijk was doing doing that and De Ligt seemed at a loss.
Great player, too bad there is a below 0% chance he would move to United even if you'd pay him top $
Werner's pace troubled him, a few passes in behind De Ligt found him in dangerous situations. Had a nice tackle on Sane when he was running him though
In the Eredivisie you mean. I have not seen much to justify the unbeliveable hype. Some consider him the best young defender in the world, some hype him as one of the best defenders in the world and I have seen and heared statements that refer to him as guaranteed 'future world class top 10 defender, if not already one' which is imo, sodding ridiculous.

City are in for him as are Barcelona. There may be other late entries to the chase yet to show their hand so looks like Ajax are going to be in receipt of some serious funds in the next year or two especially with de Ligt also impressing many.

The hype is probably ott, but the lad turned 19 two months ago and is already a regular for both club and country! Also captain for his club. How many other cbs have been at that level at that age?
Stuff like this have been said about a few guys before then somehow its Dortmund or a another club just below the top clubs that manage to get ahold of them. Maybe that is because they aren't ready or maybe because they are promised other things than money. You never know is my point, however unlikely it may seem.

This is a very exciting young Ajax team. Blind and Tadic have added some experience that they missed last year. i cant see them getting the same quality replacements

The type of player we miss out on and Barca or City will buy. We have such a global scouting network yet fail to identify proper targets.

Nah, no chance. Van der Sar and Overmars would put their own jobs on the line. Ajax hasn't won the Dutch League in 4 years, they have plenty of money in the bank already, and there's alot of pressure on the club to succeed. Selling their best player mid season would turn the supporters against them.
I think it's more down to what these targets prefer. Top talents around seem to be drawn to Barcelona and Real Madrid first and foremost, and thats been the case for ages. Not much our scouts, Woodward or manager can do about it.

Matic has done that many times (take the ball from deep and turn). He's really good at shielding the ball under pressure and opening the pitch for himself. The problem is Mourinho never instructs/coaches our players to move more intelligently and let's be honest, that kind of one touch football would break once it gets to Lukaku.
He holds on the ball no doubt but more than half the reason is because he wants to find a better option than simply laying it off (where it will inevitably break down/come back to him).
It's on the coaching. You didn't have to bring Lukaku into it. He is not the only one that holds unto the ball.
100m pounds for him and for De Ligt. Or even more, definitely worth it.

He’s a few years younger, but Joe Gomez is infinitely more talented. De Ligt is a cumbersome Harry Maguire type who’ll become very good, but not elite.

Maguire isn't anywhere near as talented as De Ligt is. De Ligt is excelling for his national team and against Champions League opponents at an age when Maguire was playing in League One. He's actually very solid on the ball aswell, that's why he's linked to Barcelona.

They would be dumb not to to be honest, just like Barca. He is the perfect Pep/Barca midfielder. He will be a big hit wherever he goes, although my guess is it will be between them both, depending on who pays more/is more interested.
