Freddy Adu looking to move

he's not that good, but being left footed raises your stock like always. can take FK tho

can we put all this debate into context please?

who would you place him on par with in the current united squad?
who do you think he can potentially be as good as within the united squad?

how much would he cost?

FWIW - The MLS Cup tournament starts this weekend. Freddy has been doing well going in, though his team is struggling.

How many former MLS players are now playing in the EPL and lower leagues also? I am asking you because you seem to know that answer. The other reason is that this league seems to turn out some players that can play in England and in Europe in general and the real good thing to me is they are cheap to buy...

on par with richardson but with more vision and less speed

richardson is as good, tho I've seen Freddy score FK goals with ease, which Richardson might do as well from close in on the right (where Adu takes them)

no idea

If he kept improving then he could be as good as Giggs, it all depends on how long he keeps gainin training points lol You'd think in this day and age we could do a bloodtest for that.

13 in the Premiership (according to Sports Illuistrated) http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/magazine/10/09/soccer.demerit1016/index.html

There doesn't seem to be much behind Adu moving abroad other than what he is saying. If he isn't making a big impact in the MLS I don't know why he thinks he can do so in tougher leagues?

wonder that too Redyank. I mean he hardly sets the MLS on fire.
I've watched him several times, both in person here in DC and on telly and he perplexes me.
Sometimes he's very effective, spraying nice passed around and then he's terrible.
I know he's young yet and maybe if he's surrounded by better players then his game will improve but I'm not sold on him yet.

good for him if Chelsea pay him $100,000 a week or something. his mother would be happy with that.

Thanks for that and I think that there are 3 Kiwi's and a couple more from central America also that were former MLS players in the EPL. From what I hear at least one more is on his way in January (Clint Demsey) and maybe a few more. Point being is that they are a bargain at the price clubs pay for them and most do fairly well not super stars but solid players (Brian McBride). For a shite league to have that many at the highest level is dam good IMO and that is why I think Adu will do well.. Considser that he was a child playing among men even in that league a 14 year old playing against grown men is amazing. I have watched some of his games recently and for a 17 year he is pretty dam good. He may not be that next Pele but he will develop into a solid player in whatever league he ends up in.

Don't underestimate the horrible mismanagement by Piotr Nowak. The other day he was on a radio show and Freddy was saying he still wasn't comfortable with his game, because he didn't think it was as free flowing as it was before he got to DCU. Nowak is an ultra-discplinarian and prefers work rate over creativity and flair, and come close to ruining Freddy. The kid is an amazing talent who's been forced to play freakin wingback in a 3-5-2, when his natural position would be withdrawn forward/Attacking Central Midfielder.

Get him to a team like United, where he has excellent coaching, and teamates who play on his talent level, you'll really see him take off.

Anyway, you should be seeing Freddy in Europe next season.

Here's what he said after last night's match.

Was it Adu's final appearance in MLS?
"We'll see," he said. "There are some serious talks going on [with European clubs], so we'll see. I'd like to be back, but my ultimate goal was to go overseas, and if it comes sooner rather than later, I'll take it."

FREDDY ADU CONSIDERS HULL SWITCH

USA international Freddy Adu says he is considering a move to Hull.

The striker used his Twitter page to confirm that he has the chance to join either the Tigers or Greek outfit Aris, who signed Fulham striker Eddie Johnson on loan last week.

Adu is currently on loan at Portuguese side Belenenses from Benfica and has struggled to live up to the hype which followed his Major League Soccer debut for DC United when he was just 14.

The 20-year-old tweeted: "I have some tough decisions to make.

"I have a pretty good idea what to do because it's about playing time and my development.

"Hull or Aris. Man decisions."

id go to Greece if I was him

Altidore's already there. Hmm, playing in the best league in the world or for a team that sounds like arse. Man decisions indeed.

Wasn't he meant to be the new Pele by now?

Can't see him doing well for Hull. He should return to the MLS, play regularly, then move back to Europe after WC 2014. Maybe by then he'll have matured more, progressed, and have made a showing on the international stage.

20 years old eh

Wasn't there some article few years back that claimed that his mother faked his birth certificate so he would be hyped up a lot? I remember they said he was actually 18 or 19ish while he claimed he was 14.

more like the new kanu than the new pele then

Is he still trying to convince everyone he's 17?

So if he fails at Aris or wherever he goes, do you think he would get any more chances in Europe?

No. He's got one more shot.

Hasn't had the best time in Europe. Bought by a team who then fired the manager. New manager didn't like him. Sent on loan to Monaco, but the club later admitted they manager had no interest in him and he was only brought in to entice American investors. This year he went to a bottom of the barrel Portuguese team and got no playing time.

He's had a combination of terrible representation and apparently not being good enough.

But he shined for the US when he played for the unders. Not much on the Men's team, though. I could see him catching on in a smaller league if given the chance.

Yeah, he had quite a few good games for the unders and a few with full USMNT if my memory serves me correct...maybe against Spain?

Oi. My mate lectures at Hull University. Come to think of it, he is a bit of a twat.

 i went to that place for a day to see my ex ended up almost fighting like 3 guys for trying to hit on her taxi drives there are rude the whole place is shit and i broke up with her that day...never going there again

Adu isn't going to Hull. That rumor started with a joke he made on Twitter. I'm pretty sure that he's close to signing with Aris FC in Greece.

For those of you interested in American players playing outside the United States, here's a recent rundown of the major leagues:

Soccer By Ives: Americans Abroad: Weekend Rewind

7 American players (with Eddie Johnson now gone to Greece) are currently playing in the Premiership. 4 of them are goalkeepers. I've heard that Landon Donovan is signing for Everton, and someone else is on trial with Burnley, so that number may increase soon.

Wow, written English has certainly changed since I left M/C. In those days there were sentences, and commas, and full stops too.

I would go to Aris. Hull is useless, he'll come off the bench, touch the ball 2-3 times and lose the game.
