American whizz kid Freddy Adu is hoping for a big move next summer after revealing he is in talks with Chelsea and Manchester United.

The DC United sensation has long been linked with a switch to The Premiership and is expected to leave MLS before he finishes his teenage years.

Adu has also been tracked by Real Madrid, with the 17-year-old confirming he has been holding talks with the Spanish giants.

The midfielder has also spoken to Premiership big guns Chelsea and United as he nears a decision on his future.

He is assessing the offers open to him and he feels he will be in a position to pick his next club some time before the summer.

"I am still talking to Chelsea and Manchester United, as well as Real Madrid," Adu is quoted in the Daily Star.

"I am looking forward to getting my opportunity with the team that offers me the best deal.

"Hopefully it will happen next year."

cnut, would love him to come though.

He's not the next pele. He's been very fortunate and i'll find it amusing if he picks ghana because American fans who had talked him up would be pissed. It'd be interesting to see if they still think he's any good....

The link from exploitation to oil to billions to abramovic to chelsea will be stronger though

He's 77 not 17. And obviously a mercenary tw@t who can't even decide the country for which to play. Leave well alone.

i think we will be in with a good shout to get him. if he's interested in progressing his career on and off the field then united is the place. united can make him a mega star such as best, beckam, rooney, ronaldo etc.

but if he just wants to make a quick buck then it will have to be chelski.

He is really overated, youd be setting yourselves up for a big disappointment chaps...

I read someone say he was the brightest talent in world football and nearly threw up...

What links, they've got feck all to do with football in the US. At the end of the day, money will talk and the kid will go to Chelski...

I honestly don't care though, he's so massively overhyped that there's almost no way he won't dissapoint

i really can't make a judgment on him as iv never seen him but if the teams mentioned are after him and we do manage to get him the it shows that united still do have the power to get players even if chelsea are after him. thats what i'd like most to happen.

The jury is still out on Freddy. He has been playing professionally since age 14 granted in the states and now he is 17. Only time will tell, the thing that worries me is his size, other than that he seems to have the rest.. He wouldn't be a bad move for us as he if a left footed player. Hope we get him...

Freddy should probably play in the Eredevisie (or some similar league) for a couple of seasons to make more of a case for himself. Jumping to one of the big European clubs from MLS and DC United is almost guaranteed to be a lesson in disappointment. He's too unproven and way too over-hyped. Unfortunately, from his statements, he's obviously looking for the big pay-day and that most likely means he aint coming here.

If Freddy did come to United - Freddy has a big mouth and believes his own hype, even at the age of 17. His comments would quickly get him into trouble with SAF if he doesn't get what he considers 'enough time' on the pitch. So if he came here, he'd have to fight for a position against Giggs, Park and Richardson since Freddy is a left-sided player. Since that's some pretty stiff competition, Freddy would most assuredly put his foot in his mouth sooner rather than later...and we all know what SAF does to people who think they're bigger than the club.

If he goes to Chelski it would be a similar story, except he'd get more money from the deal. I expect Cheslki to sign him.

He ain't all that. Don't get me wrong, he's a good player, but not the next world beater.

Just remember at age 17 Giggs was starting for us, Rooney was playing for England and Owen was scoring at the World Cup. Freddie Adu is still having problems with MLS. I watch DC United on a regular basis at the games and there is no way that he is substantially above the level of other MLS players. I prob have a more healthy respect for the standard of play than others on the board, but there's no question that he wouldn't be ready for our first team now.

Good player - Yes. Can he make at the top - maybe. Right now - No. IMO

this is from the Daily Star, I'd say there is a very good chance they just made this shit up

It's from SkySports

Chelsea will sign him and loan him to PSV. Much better deal for him than us signing him and loaning him to Antwerp.

We wouldn't need to loan him out me thinks. He could actually put in some performances against teams lower down the table, not to mention cup games.

FWIW - The MLS Cup tournament starts this weekend. Freddy has been doing well going in, though his team is struggling.

Better than the norweigan league and obi mikel eh?

hell if I know.

I only mention it because people want to judge Freddy without ever watching him play, and MLS Cup offers a series of pressurized matches. The level of play isn't that great in MLS, but it is intense in the playoffs. And actually, it offers a good level of athletecism.

Totally agree -- I have seen him play a few times and he is not world class -- I am not even sure he could cope with the physical battles of the Premiership -- let the Russians have him!

agreed

He will sign for Chelsea and consequently change his name to Freddy Abu.

I have chosen to believe the exact opposite of what you say from here on in Ehsanul

Sorry....no offence ;)

Sounds like a right twat to me, i don't believe the hype around him either so the best place for him would be Real Madrid.

tbh, the critcism of adu and his percieved mercenary attitude is a little harsh. these quotes seem to come up every so often and newspapers or sites claimed to have "interviewed" him, yet to me it just seems like the same old recycled crap from years back.

the daily star is not a reliable source, and even sky sports news embelish in these transfer stories a little too excitedly as well.

as for his ability, i've never seen him play, but the general consensus is that at 14/15 everyone though he would be a world beater, but he seems not to have developed at as quick a rate.
the question we should ask ourselves is: even if overrated, is he a better alternative than say richardson or JSP?? I think that from what I've heard he could be.

he's not that good, but being left footed raises your stock like always. can take FK tho
