Fred is one of the most underrated players in England

He has good games but feck me we paid £54 million for him. More than we did Bruno! He should be as good as Partey who cost the same.

Brilliant. In the modern game intensity, aggression and workrate are so important. He and Mctominay make us tick.
I hope if they start together regularly that we can string a few wins in a row together.

At everything but running, sure.

Not even then really. Better in the air than McT? Not really. Better on his wrong foot than Fred? Nah. Better at positioning himself or at tackling than either of them? Occasionally. Matic is a bit like an amalgam of the two of them but with little passion or mobility.

Our best CM. No thrills but just gets the job done. Was poor v Arsenal but back to his best today. I'd take him all day over Pogba.

Turbo charged, sensational energy and drive, but still that suspicion that he doesn't quite do enough for a team of our ambitions.

However, you'd always prefer a lesser ability maximum effort guy, than a top talent who doesn't put in. (No names!)

I like him. He is a bundle of energy. Reminds me Park Ji Sung, not sure if everyone would agree to that. Still a bit flawed technically, needs more time on the ball and passing is poor. But My God! You can never fault him for not trying. He is fighting for every ball. I remember atleast two wonderful recoveries among others. He needs to start every game but more as a DM.

He passed very well today, that was pleasing.

Tbf to Fred, it's not his fault what we paid for him. He's a great squad player and a good starter for us and he'll become more key under a pressing coach if Ole were to be replaced.

You mean, "THAT" guy?

Partey.... Well, we need to see more of that guy in premier league to decide whether he is better than Fred. The sample size is too small to Judge.

Ahem, yes, coughs.
Even the likes of me who were very much in the "he's our best player, it'd be mad to get rid" camp, have realised he's got to go now.

I could not understand why we played him at the base of the diamond against Arsenal in that first half... his best attributes are his energy and he is our best player at pressing and winning the ball. That position does not suit him at all.

I really hope that he turns it around. Being a united academy player and seen him come back, somehow I have more affection for him and want him to succeed. But you are right, time is running out and probably everyone has started to realize that. Having Fred and McT is still better, if we get one proper winger that will give us more balance

He is very good in the middle of the pitch. Put him as a DM and he suffers. We need him in the side.

Ole needs to take the blame for that one. Seriously..... I think he wanted to bring in Pogba at every cost and still play Diamond so he had to go at the base. That night, McT was horrible and Ole persisted with him throughout 90 minutes.

Even when we had the two centre mids in Herrera and Matic in there with him, he still wasn't producing as much as he should. He'd miss pens, and still not be the gamechanger Bruno is showing himself to be.

We've tried sitting him with another centre mid in a 2 behind Bruno, and that just leaves us way too open generally.

Maybe it can still work against smaller teams we'll have 80% of the ball against, or maybe we can have him playing Mata's type of role out wide with 3 players in midfield between him and our defence!
But it's very much starting to feel like end days Rooney, of we've used every excuse, tried every way round it, and eventually you have to think, hang on, maybe it's this guy who is the problem!

Well said and you have a very valid point.

Fred has been brilliant this season and again today, Scott has been inconsistent but today his range of passing was exceptional.

He’s a curiously un-Brazilian player. Technically nowhere near as gifted as some of the wonderful midfielders they’ve had over the years yet having this immense stamina, work rate, persistence, ball winning ability.

I think there‘s a fair scope for development too and he needs the right coach/system. I can imagine him thriving in a Klopp team. If you get a Nagelsmann type manager in he may become indispensable in midfield. In a lot of ways he’s the polar opposite of Pogba in terms of what he brings.

I think he's one of the most overrated players in England. He gives the ball away way too much, panics as soon as he's pressed and all around just isn't very good. There was a moment yesterday in the second half where someone played the ball back and he just stopped running and let an Arsenal player run onto it and attack. It was like his brain malfunctioned.

He's one of those players though that fans will always love because you can see he gives it everything he's got so naturally fans of the club gravitate towards him but as a neutral fan I think guys like Fred are the reason you don't win anything any more and if you ever want to compete for the title you need to seriously improve upon him. It shouldn't be the case that a starting midfielder for Manchester United would struggle to even make the bench at Liverpool and City.
Ok, apart from “guys like Fred.. da da da”, totally agree. He huffs and puffs around pretending he is breaking up attacks. He loves the last few games where opposition have given him space... hello. they have done that as they have identified him as a weak link and let him mop up balls. Ball watches constantly. Jogs around constantly. Gets 9/10 rating for doing nothing.

Good summary to be fair. If you could combine the two you would have some player!

Throwaway lines like this just show how bleak things really are on the caf.
People have been desperately trying to convince themselves for years that we have brilliant players when clearly it's the polar opposite. Someone like Pogba (as shite as he's been) I can just about understand given how heralded he was when he first arrived.

However, when you see people climbing over one another to praise outright hot garbage such as Fred, all you can do is shake your head and laugh.

Ok. To back down a little bit. If our first “11” all have a blinding game then we would be a match for anyone but unfortunately we have half a team day off

Fred is outright hot garbage? Sorry but that's just insane, he has represented Brazil at international level. I reckon that after a win, people sometimes get carried away and start proclaiming us to have the best players in the world, but there's no doubting Fred's talent and ability.

I can't believe that anyone watching the Everton game would say Fred is outright hot garbage. He may not be the 2nd coming of Kante just yet but he isn't Jay Spearing either

This comment just screams " I play FIFA, and watch MOTD the odd time, so I clearly know what I'm talking about." Fred has been seriously impressive over the past 18 months, and the statistics prove it.

Just as an example, he created more chances from open play than any other midfielder in the top 6 last season, played more passes into the final third than any other man utd player, and had more ball recoveries as well.

I implore you to actually watch a full game, and keep an extra eye out on him. He'll almost certainly change your mind.

How come you are Ole out? Shouldn‘t you be Ole in the fact that he managed to make us into 3rd place and 3 semi finals with these you called ‘’garbage players’’ is actually impressive. Just imagine what he can do with non garbage players.

Are people really slating him? I must be watching a different Fred? The Fred I’m watching has been the most consistent in the team. He wins the ball backs, presses with good intensity and gives the ball to the forwards with urgency. He’s does the dirty work in this team and his passing is really underrated. For me he’s the second name on the team sheet after Bruno

Do you even watch the games closely? He covers the most ground on our team consistently, presses late into the game when everyone else is out of gas and breaks up attacks consistently. His awareness and distribution are the weak links.

Of all the people in our team, fred is the only one that isn't jogging around

If those stats are true then they just highlight how skewed stats can be. His recovering of the ball is world class but no amount of stats are going to convince me that he is a good passer. He regularly misplaces passes and when he does play a successful ball it's often looser than what one should expect from a top 6 midfielder. He also panics when pressed and takes too long to set himself when he receives the ball.

He has the right attitude for a united player but simply doesn't have the requisite quality. That said, he's doing well at the moment and his effort on the pitch is what we need right now.

his passing and first touch are the reason, it's hit and miss

off the ball he's absolutely immense, one of the best in the league IMO
I like a hard worker. Fred although prone to a few mistakes, will give you his best in every game.

I think he's been very good. I don't think enough people are recognising how intelligent he is.

Here we have it, Stoke FC.

I wonder what Rory Delap is up to.

Prone to mistakes but it’s fine cause he runs around a lot, f*ck this fanbase.

Every footballer makes mistakes mate. Name one who have never.
You highlighted him as Prone to mistakes; that is a massive difference to making the odd mistake.

You’ve got one thing right though, Every footballer makes mistakes.
